I like to ocassionally watch Japanese movies or animation, or eat Japanese food, or enjoy an exhibition about Japanese art... Just as a like to do with various other countries/areas exotic to my own (i.e everything beyond the Dutch borders). But when it's Japanese, there's automatically the weeabo/nerd/Japanophile association. Luckily not so much here in Europe as in America, it seems.
What is it with people thinking Asian is better?

But back on topic. I have been living in Asia for almost 10 years. Why? I just feel that the philosophy of life here is more in line with my own. It hard and maybe wrong to generalize, but some aspects include:
simple/minimalist
respectful of roles
tendency to appreciate quiet
atheist/buddhist
safe

Since people were mentioning food in here, let's see... for me, Thai food is good, but a little too rich and sweet for me to eat it any more often than maybe once or twice a month. Japanese food is really good comfort food, but in general, these days I'll avoid Japanese/Chinese/Viet food if it's not really high quality, whereas I'll gobble up burgers and nuggets from Wendys or shit from taco bell no problem. In fact, fast vs authentic mexican food is like two different kinds of food for me :lol . Hm, I haven't had much experience with Philippine cuisine, and all my encounters with Malay food have been good. I do love me korean bbq though, can't really go wrong there.
As for American food, I guess I enjoy it on an equal basis with Asian food, if not more; I like pretty much all American dishes, whereas there's some asian food i'll disdain. Plus, good fried chicken is just fantastic, although it's surprisingly hard to find in the bay area.

Food wise:
Thai is my favorite, (the spicier the better, of course), Japanese and Chinese are good too. Korean tends to be hit or miss for me, at least around where I live. I love bulgogi tho. Was disappointed when I tried Malaysian (too much shrimp paste), and hate Vietnamese.

It just seems weird that if someone likes asian culture, they get ostracized for it, but it's not the case for a love of western cultures. I know a guy who is obsessed with Sweden, but a lot of people consider that normal, but if you're obsessed with Korea/Japan/China or whatever you're just a nerd.
I enjoy reading about Japanese and Korean politics. I enjoy the art, cinema, cuisine, alcohol, and women. However, admitting as much on the internets is accepting the label of weaboo. I'm also obsessed with the art, culture, and political scene of Philadelphia, but I don't get a free label out of that one. Except for maybe "shitty fan". Wait, maybe you do get a label for everything you have a passion about.

Asia has its tradeoffs just like any other place. I moved to Japan looking forward to the new culture, food, kindness and respect of the people towards each other, safety, world's best public trans, etc. just like anyone else. And I got those things. And it was great. But after a while, when the list of new wonders to explore grows thin, then the list of shit that annoys you begins to grow.
For me it was mostly social-related. The way women are treated and allow themselves to be treated made me feel like I was back in the roaring twenties. The blatant racism, while cute and funny at first, really started getting on my last nerve by the time I left... even when it worked in my favor.
The worst offender was the working culture. Holy hell. If you don't go as far above and beyond as possible for your boss, you won't make it out of the mail room. This includes working 12+ hour days, 7 days a week, and canceling vacations, giving up sick leave, etc.
I'm not saying Japan is a shitty place to live. I spent the best year of my life there and I would love to go back someday. Just saying it ain't all roses.
