What is it with people thinking Asian is better?

I like to ocassionally watch Japanese movies or animation, or eat Japanese food, or enjoy an exhibition about Japanese art... Just as a like to do with various other countries/areas exotic to my own (i.e everything beyond the Dutch borders). But when it's Japanese, there's automatically the weeabo/nerd/Japanophile association. Luckily not so much here in Europe as in America, it seems.

But don't try to date an Asian male. Asian men make dating WAY too frustrating and unbearable. Why do you guys think that so many Asian women want to date a white guy? If you've looked at what their own culture offers them, it's the lesser of 2 evils for them.

That's not true of assimilated, western-born asian guys, only the "fresh off the boat" sorts that still have backwards views of a woman's place from their home countries.

All types of women are ok with me.

word..hot is hot..race and ethnicity are just minor details..i have yet to recall a single time that i saw a hot girl and said to myself 'but she's korean'..i can understand people's preferences but i cant understand someone who puts all the emphasis on a particular group..if you like a hot korean girl chances are there are other men who feel the same way..not cause she's korean but because she's hot

You have to be very wary of Korean women though, plastic surgery is all the rage in Korea and you never know who's real.

This.

I'll take a hot Japanese girl with not-so-good teeth over a perfect looking Korean girl with image issues.

Korean guys... well, they just don't talk. Ever. It's like dating a mannequin with a pull-string voicebox, mostly pointless.

Everything I've heard about Korean men is that they never shut up and keep phoning/texting/pestering their partners.

Better to wonder if the eyelids, cheeks, jawline, boobs are real, than wonder if....you know, it's a trap.

The girl in the pic everyone keeps quoting can be found here-

But back on topic. I have been living in Asia for almost 10 years. Why? I just feel that the philosophy of life here is more in line with my own. It hard and maybe wrong to generalize, but some aspects include:

simple/minimalist
respectful of roles
tendency to appreciate quiet
atheist/buddhist
safe

Why do some people think Asian culture is really all that great?

I crack on the weeaboos alot, my basis on the fetishization of Asian, or maybe more specifically Japanese culture. I just don't know what's so great about it.

Being Korean myself, I find so many issues with it, filial piety, Confucian ideals, status issues. Blah.

Yeah the girls are cute, but....they don't shave.

It's a mix of many Asian countries being both exotic and familiar. People are attracted to what is new and different. Yet, these developing countries, such as Japan, have enough Western influences and social norms to make them approachable.

It's natural for people to find comfort in other cultures, especially if their own society does not outright reject xenophilia and the other culture in question is not too alien.

.............. I like Chinese food.

It's the most influential cuisine in the entire history of mankind. Except for yogurt and cheese in a can.

I'm into French these days. Apparently, animal bladders make everything better.

You can get real good at spotting it after a while. The trick is that the several of the major Korean plastic surgeons are basing it off an Ainu woman template and then working from there. It looks much more natural than the straight up Korean -> Western look.

Since people were mentioning food in here, let's see... for me, Thai food is good, but a little too rich and sweet for me to eat it any more often than maybe once or twice a month. Japanese food is really good comfort food, but in general, these days I'll avoid Japanese/Chinese/Viet food if it's not really high quality, whereas I'll gobble up burgers and nuggets from Wendys or shit from taco bell no problem. In fact, fast vs authentic mexican food is like two different kinds of food for me :lol . Hm, I haven't had much experience with Philippine cuisine, and all my encounters with Malay food have been good. I do love me korean bbq though, can't really go wrong there.

As for American food, I guess I enjoy it on an equal basis with Asian food, if not more; I like pretty much all American dishes, whereas there's some asian food i'll disdain. Plus, good fried chicken is just fantastic, although it's surprisingly hard to find in the bay area.

To some people
myself
, this would be a bonus ;)

Food wise:

Thai is my favorite, (the spicier the better, of course), Japanese and Chinese are good too. Korean tends to be hit or miss for me, at least around where I live. I love bulgogi tho. Was disappointed when I tried Malaysian (too much shrimp paste), and hate Vietnamese.

Everyone's familiar with the Japanese and their extra-extended "working vacations", as it were. You shouldn't even bother with those ones, NOTHING will keep them in North America, certainly not some fling they're having to pass the time.

It's not limited to them. The people I know and know of run the gamut from late teens studying at a 4yr and early 20's here for English language schools to...well...the folks you mention, so it's not limited to the "hard working" demographic. I'm sure it's partially due to the social medicine there, though.

European women destroy Asian women. Hands down.

Well, if you like young adults (18~24) that look like they're in their mid 30's, then I suppose. European and western women, in general, could learn a thing or 2 about skin care, or maybe avoid the sun a little more.

The grass is always greener, definitely.

I love Asian culture because it's a far different stone than the one I'm turning over daily here in the U.S. I'm also a ninja fan. And I love Shin Ramyun (best Raman this side of the galaxy - although I bet it's not the typical Korean Raman).

Anyway, bottom line (in my opinion)... it's just different.

Shin Ramen is definitely the typical Korean ramen--hot, spicy and loaded with sodium.

I'd try a Kalgugsu ramen, though. I bought a box at a Korean market earlier this week, and it is delicious.

It just seems weird that if someone likes asian culture, they get ostracized for it, but it's not the case for a love of western cultures. I know a guy who is obsessed with Sweden, but a lot of people consider that normal, but if you're obsessed with Korea/Japan/China or whatever you're just a nerd.

I enjoy reading about Japanese and Korean politics. I enjoy the art, cinema, cuisine, alcohol, and women. However, admitting as much on the internets is accepting the label of weaboo. I'm also obsessed with the art, culture, and political scene of Philadelphia, but I don't get a free label out of that one. Except for maybe "shitty fan". Wait, maybe you do get a label for everything you have a passion about.

Filipino men? Schizophrenic. Plus, the family is a tougher obstacle there than any other.

Schizophrenic? How so?

I'd agree with you on the family thing though. My family is not as bad as others but when you date Filipino, you generally date the entire family.

Those are the kind of things that attract me to japan. I don't like their media/entertainment culture at all. Their women/men aren't anything special to me. It's that hard to describe that little social bubble of theirs. I want to experience it so bad because it shares those philosophies i value in life. I want to see how i mesh. Especially as a black man.

I don't really like anime, but I love Asian food, art, mythology and the way sasimirobot put their philosophy of life. ...Also their women.

Then again, what culture can I not say that about? (American, I guess.)

Asia has its tradeoffs just like any other place. I moved to Japan looking forward to the new culture, food, kindness and respect of the people towards each other, safety, world's best public trans, etc. just like anyone else. And I got those things. And it was great. But after a while, when the list of new wonders to explore grows thin, then the list of shit that annoys you begins to grow.

For me it was mostly social-related. The way women are treated and allow themselves to be treated made me feel like I was back in the roaring twenties. The blatant racism, while cute and funny at first, really started getting on my last nerve by the time I left... even when it worked in my favor.

The worst offender was the working culture. Holy hell. If you don't go as far above and beyond as possible for your boss, you won't make it out of the mail room. This includes working 12+ hour days, 7 days a week, and canceling vacations, giving up sick leave, etc.

I'm not saying Japan is a shitty place to live. I spent the best year of my life there and I would love to go back someday. Just saying it ain't all roses.

:lol

Asian women age badly. Enjoy your Asian wife while you can weaboo.

And the ratio of hot:ugly is much better from the Euro/White side of things. Obviously it doesn't help that there are over a billion Asians but meh, whatcha gonna do?

I didn't read one post in this thread, but I totally agree with the topic. We have an obsession with asians, particularly the lighter skinned.

ah hell no!

The obsession with pale skin in Asia, esp Korea, is ridiculous. It looks awful. And it's based on classist ideals, which is pretty stupid.

Healthy glowing tan > milky white skin. The rest of the world seems to have this figured out. Asia is behind.

The rest of the world figured out how to get melanoma? I'm still trying to figure out what a "healthy tan" is.

I agree with this. I dated a Vietnamese girl for a while and her family loved me had me over almost every night to shove food down my throat and as much as I wanted. I personally think it was the best food i've had in my whole life...so many great dishes and pretty damn healthy too.

Lots of manchildren. A lot of cultures are appealing if you ignore all the responsibilities and social restrictions that residents have to face throughout their adult lives. Good for tourism though.
