Hasn't been done in a while (that I can find on a search), so I'm curious to see what people drive. Do you like your vehicle? Had any major problems? Made any modifications? Saving up for something new? If so, what?

Vehicle Specs:
2000 Dodge Dakota Club Cab Sport
Flame Red
4.7L - 16 Valve - V8
4-speed auto (45RFE transmission) - 4x4
109,000 miles

Modifications:
Rhino Liner (Comes over the bed lip)
31" x 10.50" Cooper Discoverer ATR tires
Pioneer In-Dash CD player
6 ¾" Pioneer 3-way speakers (4)

Bought it new in 2000 right before I started my job out of college, as I needed something more reliable than the 1985 GMC Jimmy to get to work. It's been a great truck, it's paid for, and I've had only minimal problems early on that were covered by warranty (brake rotors/drums). Looking back, the only thing I might have done differently would be to get the Quad Cab for the better seating and extra doors.

Looking to install a set of sealed subs under the rear bench so I don't lose the functionality and space. I'll put the amp under the passenger-side seat and keep everything as a stealth installation. I've also considered putting in a Getrag 238 6-speed manual transmission when the eventual engine and tranny overhaul comes along, hopefully not for a long while. I think the truck looks pretty good as stock, and don't see any need for performance or body mods.

2001 Dodge Durango. Brand New. It now has about 60k miles on it. I like it alot, but it has a pretty poor suspension.

Black 99' Ford Contour SVT, I put in a cold-air intake, higher flow fuel rail, and a new chip from Ford Racing. I put on 18'' Konig Prophets and I lowered it about 1 1/2 inches with an Eibach spring kit.

2001 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V. Fun car, but showing it's age a bit. I should take better care of it, but I'm getting tired of replacing...TIRES. Where I work also happens to be a bad place for tires. Screws and bits of metal are all over the place in the parking lot...

2005 Cadillac SRX (mine is Blue Chip, not Light Platinum like the one above)

2002 World Rally Blue Subaru WRX. I don't even have 40K on it yet because my commute has never been over 10 minutes, and I don't drive it much except on the weekends to go birding.

It's the most enjoyable car I'll ever own, even if I do have to feed it premium gas. Next car after this will be some kind of boring ultra-efficient hybrid car, but that's at least 5 years off.

Do people not own cars for more than 5 years? It's like all of your cars are 2000+.

Picked it up Jan., 2002.

I've had to replace the brakes, the windshield, a heater core and an alternator so far. In all I've put about a grand into this car over the last three years. I hope it lasts me another two just so I can get my money's worth.

Some people are just like that. They get "bored" of their car after 3-4 years. Unless I end up needing anything more out of my car, like a four door or something, I hope to keep mine for as long as I can. Although I've already put some serious miles on it for only having owned it for around 9-10 months.

Ninja Scooter- that car looks seriously badass. The body shape is almost kinda like mine, which I love.

Must be. This kind of attitude is probably one of the things driving debt in the US. I think it should stop.

I plan on using my 92 accord until 2008-2010, then I'll pick up a new Accord and keep it for 15-20 years (unless some new technology forces me to change).

I expect to get 300,000 miles out of my Celica, I have no interest in getting a newer car. I just can't see throwing a pile of money at one when my car is still fun and runs great.

Not that you're specifically calling out any one particular person, but some of us with newer model vehicles already drove our previous cars and trucks until the wheels fell off. I had 250,000+ miles on the Jimmy before I got rid of it, and at the ripe old age of 28, the Dakota is only the second vehicle I've ever owned. I can also understand somebody wanting to trade in and get a hold of something else if they get a hold of a money pit. Even some traditionally highly reliable cars and trucks can be troublesome.

To the truck owners: Just curious if you use any of the actual truck functionality: i.e: are you carting stuff around every now and then? Or do you just like trucks?

To answer the question about why so many cars are newer, I imagine a lot of people are leasing cars (not worth it IMO, but I guess if you have the budget for the payments and like the newer car thing, it might be something someone wants to do.)

Sickboy: I took it off-roading the day I bought just to get that first scratch put in the paint, and get it over with. I use it all the time for hauling things around, and I've done quite a bit of moving, where having a truck is always useful. The 4WD pays for itself every year with the ice storm we inevitably get, where I'd have to make up work days if I missed. It gets used for sporting reasons, too.

I think if you own a truck, you're more likely to use it for things you normally wouldn't bother with just because it's convenient.

In my case, I bought a junker to get me through high school and college, then bought a newish car to replace that one when it fell apart.

At any rate, I smashed that newer car in a 14 car pileup, and ended up getting my Mazda3 with the insurance claim.

Unfortunately, I own the 2003 Ford Escape XLT 2WD...

The wife and I got the 2 for 2 sale on the Escapes... she traded hers in for a 2005 Explorer XLT Sport... it is loaded...

I will trade mine in this fall for a 2005 or 2006 Grand Prix GT... MAYBE...

I hate the Ford Escape... low-end Ford SUV, it feels cheaply made but runs well - Our first car mistakes as husband/wife...

Mine is a lighter blue, though.
Just picked this up a week ago for my people-mover/road tripper. Like it so much I'm going to use it as my main car. Its a Ford (for which I get employee pricing on - fuck you GM) but its built on the Volvo XC90 platform. Nicest domestic car I've ever owned.

Tell me more about this car. I've been shopping for one for a few months now.
How much did you pay for it?

Currently i drive:
2002 Nissan Altima, 40k miles.
It's my favorite out of the 5 cars i've owned, plenty of room, fast and pretty good on gas.
All i've done to it is changed the grille, added splash guards, dark tint and a spoiler, no more custom rims for me.
