What we know about Legend of Zelda Wii prior to E3 2010

STOP TALKING ABOUT VOICE ACTING YOU JERKS

There's like three aspects we can talk about and all of them have been done to death.

- Voice acting or not?
- Cel-shaded or not?
- Timeline or not?

At least the title would make more sense, AMIRITE? :D

But seriously, so many people I knew used to call him Zelda before the first Smash Bros game came out. [face_doh]

Well there's the MotionPlus and its potential uses in the game, but who cares about gameplay?

I'm not expecting anything revolutionary from the motion controls.
I just hope they never really get in the way.

My primary gameplay concerns are that I don't want the game to be another OoT blueprint experience and that I want the ability to choose a difficulty. Twilight Princess was so ridiculously easy and I understand that they want to keep the game accessible to as big of an audience as possible, but come on throw the Zelda fans a bone and create a difficulty setting designed for people who've played a Zelda or two.

Like Danielsan, i want a MAJOR difficulty bump or, at the very least, the choice of difficulty settings. TP and TWW didn't give me any sort of challenge and were so formulaic (TP moreso) that they became a chore to play at times.

What is your opinion on voice acting Oblivion

well I guess since we're on the subject...

I would prefer if there was no VA in Zelda. However, my reasons may differ a bit from others. Most people seem to not trust Nintendo to do a competent enough job (see: Sunshine), but for me, it wouldn't matter if they had the best VAs and VO directors in the world. Zelda is a whimsical type of game that never comes off as super serious. Having VAs seem like they would mess up the feeling. Of course, if there MUST be voice acting, then at the very least I would like for Link to remain silent.

Regardless, voice acting is pretty low on my priority list for things to improve Zelda, somewhere between a more appealing text font, and giving Tingle more screen time.

I'm definitely down with having the option to select a difficulty level. If Nintendo is worried about including a variable that can be intimidating for novice players the option to increase (or decrease) the difficulty level can be hidden in the options screen.

Woah, what, there I go to sleep and when I wake up we have an 8-page-Zelda thread. For a second I thought there had been actual news about it :lol

That would be a huge simplification. Mario Galaxy 2 underwent a massive simplification, but not that massive.

Going "back" to Zelda NES-style would NOT be a simplification at all :D Zelda is simple NOW. You´re following a firmly defined path, anything you do is tightly planned out by the programmers. Going back to Zelda NES would mean: Freedom in choice about where to go, when to go there, and what to do there. Opening up that kind of freedom would add an enormous complexity to the Zelda-series. The only part that would get simplified is story, but...screw story.

Atmosphere like this, please!

I´d prefer that style 1000times over TWW´s. But, you know what the perfect Zelda would look like? Here:

Eww, no. TWW and even TP look better than that.

If we're aiming for art, we should be aiming for LttP's awesome art.

lol, guess from which game that artwork is :P

And as for the voice acting-discussion: I´d like to have voice acting for everyone EXCEPT Link. I just think that it´d liven up atmosphere so much if there was voice acting at places like the big Hyrule city market place. Feels weird when you come to such a place and it´s all silent.

Higher difficulty and make sidequests rewards more awesome and worthwhile instead of rupees.

I actually thought that Spirit Tracks does a good job of both, whatever the other problems may be with that game. I am now almost finished, and looking back I can say the game is not too easy (especially with regard to some bosses) and doing side quests reaps some nice rewards, like unlocking new places to go to and acquiring treasures. If they can do the same for the new console Zelda, it will be a very good thing indeed. Add to this recent remarks from Miyamoto about the difficulcy in New Super Mario Bros Wii and the Super Guide, and I am hopeful that the Zelda team won't be afraid to make a challenging game.

don't know how it would be used in-game, but this one is sweet:

I wish Nintendo could give us a zelda with a wold that actually feels alive and real.Giving the sense that is inhabited and not only have about 100 people here and there.
Also Cel-shaded please because wii lacks powerhouse to give an immerse world fully fledged with polugons and realistic looks(Red dead redemption being the best example).
Also no voice work.
Huge overworld.
Another thing that i'm afraid with the looks of the game are the Jaggies.Wii struggles with them and some games are an absolute mess(No More Heroes 2 and crystal bearers).Do something nintendo.Give us a clean image!!!

We're a little over a week away from the reveal. Damn.

But only by a technicality on account of Zant being a shit character, a douchebag Ganondorf, Zelda being a piece of cardboard, and all of Link's friends being part of a lame throwaway subplot that you couldn't care about.
A TKO is still a KO!

I consider it broken because it's 2010 and if you're going to have dialogue on a home console game I expect it to be voiced.
Nintendo needs to get with the times and I'm sure it's not beyond Nintendo's budget to hire a competent voice director + voice actors.

One of the things that greatly contributed to the character of Midna (which I consider to be the greatest Zelda character) was her voice. It allowed her to express her emotions which allowed her to be more than a shitty cardboard character.

majora's mask didn't have voice acting, and still it doesn't have "cardboard characters"

I dont like the idea of the rumor where that fairy chick turns into multiple items. It just sounds lame and I'd rather collect items.

I hate that the characters are not context aware at all.
I stand right in front of a kid and throw bombs at it and all it says after that is
"olol the windmill is so beautiful today" bleep bloop bleep.

yeah.

I absolulutely adore Terada's art as well, although most of it are depictions of grim battles.

I posted the previous pics not for the cutesy link design, but more for that sense of wonder and atmosphere of exploration.

The game should allow you to hunt the wildlife like in rdr. Since they seem to be getting inspiration from monster hunter I hope they'll allow you to collect meat and pelts from the monsters you kill.
I'm tired of hearts and coins. Introduce a trading merchant system that makes hunting certain enemies more interesting.
I want to see food in the game. I loved the attention of detail they put in Goemon 64 with the food as health items.

You'd still have to collect something to "teach" her how to turn into the form of another item.
Functionally it would be the exact same method.

I just want Fierce Deity Link vs. Ganon. Cel-shaded. With voice acting. :lol :lol
Keep that shit away from this game, worst design in the series by far. Yes, that includes the multi-coloured Tingles and Twilight Princess NPCs.

I hope not. They could easily make a brand new ip for this kind of experience.

Mhm. Nintendo needs new IPs instead of trying to shoe-horn existinging ones into new settings or gameplay designs that may not be appropriate.

This might get me some flames but I want the new Zelda Wii to have a TP look as opposed to a WW look. Wii Zelda will make me buy a Wii again. :D

Nobody wants the TWW-look again. TP-look PLUS cel-shading = win

Yeah seriously an updated Wind Waker engine will be amazing...and please no VA in my Zelda.

The comments in the OP so far give the impression that the look will be similar to TP. So, probably not cel-shaded. Something like a thick outline effect or a pencil shader could happen though.

good luck, nintendo. i hope they are presenting something good. i'm really curious about how it will look and play like.

TP used an modified version of the Wind Waker graphics engine, iirc.

I liked every graphic style from the 3D-Zeldas,so I don't care if they do it more cel-shaded or not.

My opinion:
- 30% chance that a new Zelda game on the Wii will be announced in E3 2010.
- If they announce it, then there is a 10% chance that it will be released in 2010.

*Puts rock back on top of you*

The rest of you, how would you like Nintendo to design the flying, if that does become reality in the game?

What I am thinking (and would like) is pointing the Wii remote towards the screen and you would have that over the shoulder view, very similar to what we mainly have had in 3D Zelda. You move the Wii remote left and right, to go in those respective directions. To descend you push down and ascend you would pull up.

Maybe even have it where you can the Wii Remote to make Link do spinning attack/dive/ascend in that direction.

I'd like cel-shading again, but with more detailed character models to appease the haters. The quality of animation in WW was awesome.

btw have any of the people calling for voice acting played the latest Final Fantasy games? Its fucking horrible! I don't know about you guys but the voices I *imagined* in the old games were way more awesome than that crap.

I can count the number of Japanese originated games with good voice acting on one hand. And no MGS / Resident Evil do not have good voice acting. Most of the Western stuff is shite as well. Uncharted is the only talkie videogame since the old PC point and click era that has managed to avoid making me want to puncture my ears with a branding iron.
