What's the Number To Call To Report Landlords Who Won't Turn On The Heat?

I live in NYC and it's like 7 degrees at this moment, and that's inside my apartment. I'm literally freezing to death and my piece of shit landlord has yet to turn on the heat. Isn't there a # I can call to report deadbeat landlords to the city? Thanks.

First tragedy, then farce.
My advice is to get everyone in the building together and set the supers room on fire. You wont be cold anymore and the owner will pay with a burned out building..

(in other news, turn your oven on broil and open the door.. its kinda like a cheap ass, semi-deadly-gas-emitting space heater.. so dont leave it on for more than an hour or so).

So I proceeded to search for more on the "Central Complaint Bureau" and found a different number here ( http://www.oag.state.ny.us/civilrights/discrim.html ) and here ( http://www.newyork.bbb.org/library/outres/resorcko.html ) that matched:

NYC Dep't of Housing, Preservation & Development
Central Complaint Bureau
215 West 125 St.
New York, NY 10027

Info/Complaints: 960-4800
For housing complaints concerning heat, hot water, plumbing,
sanitation and dangerous or unhealthy conditions.

NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING PRESERVATION &
DEVELOPMENT (HPD)
Central Complaint Bureau
215 West 125th Street
New York, NY 10027
(212) 960-4800

On neither page saw anything about how recent the information was. Just searching for Department of Housing Preservation Development brought up a boatload of results, but I haven't yet seen a specific Complaints website or anything.

Suaveric is right. Found the web presence for the Department of Housing, Preservation, & Development.

I have no heat or hot water in my apartment. What can I do?

By law, residential owners must provide adequate heat between October 1 and May 31. During this period, between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., if the outside temperature is below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, owners must heat apartments to at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., if the outside temperature is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, owners must heat apartments to at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Owners must also provide hot water at a minimum constant temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit all year round.

Tenants whose building owners fail to provide adequate heat or hot water should first speak with the owner or building manager about the problem. If an owner does not restore heat and hot water, tenants should then call the City's Citizen Service Center at 311, open 24 hours per day, seven days per week, to lodge a complaint (311 can be accessed outside of New York City by dialing (212) NEW YORK).

Yep, call 311.

Ugh, this happened last year for a couple days in my building. I think there's a way you can put rent into escrot, but it never came to that in my situation. At one point, I called the management company and asked the person I was talking to if they had heat where they lived. Then I asked if I could spend the night there. :lol

Anyway, check this site for all kinds of nifty ways to use New York tenant law to your advantage. It's an excellent resource.
