Hey!

I pay good money for this privilege, friendo.

I mean, people want to see what experts think of something.

The more annoying ones are the average person reacting videos.

i dont watch these but i have an acquaintance who makes these videos.....so they come up on my instagram every so often.. the forced bullshit overreaction is just INSANE. And if youre 30yo and genuinely losing your shit still over movie and videogame reveals, then you gotta reprioritize your life or figure out something to give your life more meaning.

its like the old adage - those who cant do, teach.... well i think we can apply this stereotype to the new gen, and make it those who cant do, make reaction videos.

Do you happen to know if his "reaction" is genuine? Whenever I've seen those trailer reaction videos I've always figured the person has already watched it in preparation and is just putting on a show.

My favorite reactions are the movie trailer “live reactions.”

Trailer Reaction vids get more hits than review vids and I think a lot of people genuinely believe these people are really watching it for the first time (when they’ve clearly already watched it and quickly researched all references and reveals) and genuinely screaming in glee or shocked beyond words.

Don't you think it's sickening that someone would do that for views, attention or whatever? It's among the things I can't understand why anyone would do. Crazy people.

Mayonnaise on French fries is sickening.

people who whore out for reaction vid hits, it’s dumb as fuck but I guess I can’t hate on people for paying the bills

unless you pay bills by putting mayo on French fries

As humans we like to feel superior to people. Laughing along with an expert at someone fucking up somehow makes people feel smart. If the group is laughing at someone else they aren't laughing at us.

Like -Arcadia- -Arcadia- says, reaction videos in general are stupid.
I mean this is the essence of it "Come basic bitches, join me and my expert wisdom and we laugh at the lesser thans together, you may even get to pretend to be my friend! Don't forget to like and subsribe for more friend time"

It would be more interesting if they provided some useful information but most of these videos are just someone staring at the screen with a few facial expressions, then they ALWAYS say ' wow that was badass, buy my merch in the link below." Oh fuck off.

There seems to be a cottage industry that's sprung up within the last 2 years of people reacting to Tool (my favorite band). Since I like watching fan made videos I stumbled upon them. It's mostly people who customarily listen to Rap/Hiphop.

The only "reaction" videos I like are those posted by Corridor Crew.

These guys are professional stunt/cgi guys who reveal how certain shots are done, how stunts are done, how CGI is done, etc.
They also have a bunch of videos in which they make movies even better.

But yeah. Over all, I find the whole concept pretty baffling.

It is weird. There's a channel I like by this guy Chris Ramsay, a PROFESSIONAL magician, and he has really good content of him solving really weird obscure physical puzzles. But his thumbnails and titles are exactly that a lot of the time, I wasn't aware it was a highly popular thing but it was starting to annoy me, along with stuff like "card trick that BROKE THE INTERNET".

My reaction to those types of vids and the people that do them....IDGAF and wish they get shut down for occupying my page with that nonsense.

Its the same for most channels or podcasts. If you are not in the business for whatever it is im interested in....games...whatever it may be, and you are just some guy/girl then i dont care what you think, even if i agree with you.

Reviewers that dont hog the screen with their face, that talk about the games and not their personal beliefs, stick to info and show their experiences via video proof I like.

Too many just record themselves making stupid faces, i can't stand it.

I’m about to post a vid of me reading and reacting to this post. Everyone follow me on twitter, quick!
I think those reaction vids are more for drama club and theater fans. I never cared for acting in school, never was going to be good at it even if I tried lol

The reaction vids literally have zero appeal to me

Relevant old adage -

Great Minds Discuss Ideas; Average Minds Discuss Events; Small Minds Discuss People

There in lies your answer. Self promotion to the lowest common denominator that equates to views and perhaps financial gain. That or it's just a bit of fucking fun sometimes.

"Professional vocal coach reacts to..."
"Professional gamer reacts to..."

What's next? "Professional prostitute reacts to small dick?"

What the fuck is wrong with these people? Fucking cancer.
I really dont see what the problem is. It's an interesting idea. You cant just hate something because its popular bro.

"Miyazaki plays and discuss Souls like games" - That would be good content, but what we usually get is:

"Youtuber "influercer" that never made shit makes stupid faces in front of the camera as he/she over reacts and gives his/her opinion/critique on new song/movie/game trailer/art/performance/photo"

See, this is what pisses me off, they are feeding on other people's work as if they have any meaningful insight but they don't. It's such arrogance.

Youtube is saturated with garbage.

That being said, occasionally I find some foreign guy from nowhere's channel, and he has terrible recording gear with no followers...but he speedruns like a fucking god. Those channels are nice finds.

What I find funny is why should I care about the reaction of on average person on YouTube. It's my own reaction or opinion that matters.

One shouldn't need someone else's reaction to help/persuade them form an opinion.

I was thinking of something like 'expert rock climber talks about climbing in movies.' That's wholesome stuff.

The reaction vids are everywhere because they take zero skill and little effort, and people like them for some reason.

The new 'how good was sports person / team / band / series, really' is the in thing now. Takes more effort (a lot more effort in some cases) but seems to be similarly popular.

Blame the Fine Brothers for this trend.

I admit I did like to watch children or elderly reacting to shit because they would have some funny opinions (and when the kids were stupid as fuck as not to know what an old telephone it was it made me want to punch kittens - my five year old knows what a fucking phone is, she also knows what a typewriter is, it's more the fault of dumb parents not teaching shit to them, but I digress) - but this reaction shit got out of control.

As much as I hate them, they aren't even the worst content out there.

These days, young girls think they are movie stars because of having a camera on them. "TODAY YOU CAN WATCH ME TEXT ON MY PHONE. TOMORROW I WILL LIP SYNC SOME RAP THAT I DONT EVEN KNOW THE WORDS TO. SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL."

One oddly specific reaction channel subgenre is "black rap fan reacts to heavy metal". People seem to love to watch black rap fans starting to like heavy metal for some reason.

Blame social media, everyone thinks their opinion is worth something and wants everyone else to hear/see it.

No, it's the other way around.
Everyone wants to see someone like a thing they like or dislike something they dislike.

These channels are popular because people want to watch them. You can take a look at the comments and see countless of people telling them what to react to next.

Literally yesterday a video called

Jewel thief reacts to GTA heist

I watched it and the guy was shitting on Lester for not being affirmative and having a solid plan for the bank robbery. He did this while sitting in a shitty looking room while wearing a tank top.

I have doubts he was an actual jewel thief and if he was he can't have been successful

I've seen a vocal coach react to a YouTube singer I follow named Katrina Velarde... She was even more blown away than I was at Katrina's vocal talent. Seems a lot of Filipinos can SANG!

The only ones I enjoy are the CooridorCrew videos. They are VFX artist that breakdown how special effect shots are done. They occasionally have stuntment on the show too and that is really interesting to hear how they pull some of the stuff off, or how badly they got fucked up.

I like Legal Eagle when he breaks down the Chewbacca and Shaggy defence.

His take on corona lawsuits were fascinating
