When will the cult of the nasal, affected singing voice die?

I’ve given up being angry about this scourge. It’s futile, and my blood pressure can only take so much. There’s an even a name for this evil: the Indie Girl Voice. I just call it the ‘slack jaw stoned as high’ voice. Though … I might lose all credibility admitting to liking one or two of Ries Sinclair and Regina Spektor songs 😣

The thing is pop has had plenty of decent to terrible singers for years. In the past you would keep their singing to a minimum and cover it up with good production (e.g Madonna). Now you have people who don't have strong voices singing ballads, and songs with no, little or even bad production. So what you're left with is trash vocals on barely any music, or worse poorly produced music.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
There is tons of good modern female singers if you look hard enough.

I love Angel Olsen. I remember listening to her while I waited for my girlfriend the first time we agreed to meet in Central Park. New York used to be beautiful back then, which feels like a lifetime ago. The pandemic robbed people of a lot of magic moments. I am glad I experienced a lot before shit went down.

Everything has its moment in time. Give it a few years and new trends will develop. That video in the OP though… man, that is some sissy ass music. No clue how people can tolerate it. Lol

Both Pop/Rock music is brain dead simple at the moment. Sooo boring! It’s like the average joe can’t connect with music that has more than three chords repeated for the entire song.

Wonder how a lot of this stuff will age.

I never knew this had a name or that other people also got annoyed by it. It’s everywhere now and it’s annoying but I doubt there’s anything we can do but just let it run it’s course. Sadly.

(shrugs) I like Ariana Grande and Doja Cat off the the top of my head. I’m sure music snobs will tell me how wrong I am for that, and if so congrats on wasting your time because:

I wish I had something better to do with my time than listen to the song in the OP and find the original song it sampled but I didn't so here we are.

The original song isn't quite as bad since this dude seems to have sped it up and chipmunked it a bit so he could mumble his bullshit lyrics he came up with after watching that Fault in Our Stars movie or whatever. He even just calls it quits and starts singing along with the original song, lmao. Like how fucking lazy and cynical can you be? But hey I guess this piece of shit is being streamed billions of times so what do I know!?!

Anyway maybe I'm crazy but I think we're actually pulling out of the indie chick nosedive.... I feel like rock bottom was that Little Talks song and it's been a decade without anything quite that bad. Or maybe I've just gotten better at avoiding it. I don't know.

I liked a lot of those songs in the video, even the one in the op.

Shit like this.

Every non rapper female artist these days seems to sing by breathing in through their nose rather singing outwards bursting through their lungs.

WTF kind of music is that, it's not even rap, which I despise, it's basically reading in a monotonous way.

Bruce Dickinson still sounds great. Listen to more Iron Maiden

Can't tell you how many SO's were peeved at me for not digging this sorta thing as opposed to my usual taste of metal/punk/etc
