Which game turnoud out to be a bigger nothing-burger [Daikatana VS Too Human]

I just finished watching this new vid on YT which I'll add below and the more I watched and listened, the more it reminded me of Daikatana. Both games were over hyped, cocky developers, changed multiple engines always searching for the newest tech, yet when they came out, the fizzled out with a whimper. Disliked by the public, ridiculed and both used up crazy budget that just went down the drain. Somehow, even though I did own a 360 at the time, Too Human completely went over my head and I dont even rememeber hearing about it. Daikatana I played at the time and it was an absolute disaster, still is. Watching this little documentary, I found it funny how many times Neogaf specifically was mentioned during its development. Aparently this Dyack guy was active here 24/7 and couldnt handle criticism. Unfortunately I wasnt here to watch all that unfold yet. I'll be honest now I wanna try the game, probably have to deal with some emulation though as I dont have my XsX anymore. Either way, both developers of their games were so up their own ass without having someone to edit their thoughts before they went and spoke to the public and they ended up releasing duds.

Battle between Too Human and Daikatana

Winner: Starfield
Lol, not even close. Starfield was anticipated, sure, but Daikatana was hyped. I wouldn't even say Too Human was on the same hype level as Daikatana was. In the day, Daikatana was legitimately being pushed as the biggest, best, most revolutionary game ever made. Not just good, not just great, but the absolute pinnacle. Back then, magazines were really the only way to get reliable info on new games, and it always seemed like Daikatana's "big moment" was just around the corner. The next trade show, the next article, the next interview - that would be when the world got to see what made Daikatana the best game of all time. And then the game came out. Had it just been "good", that alone would've scored it a place on "biggest disappointments of all time". But it was a broken mess of bad ideas, landing it on many "worst games of the year" lists. The gulf between what was promised and was delivered is legendary - which is why it's still talked about to this day. Even in the era of remasters and fan patches, you'll find Daikatana notably absent, with little attempt to revise it's legacy: even if it worked, it's just not a very good game. I will say this though: the soundtrack is fucking amazing.

Comparing that to Starfield - which I enjoyed my time with, but it's not on the level of Skyrim, Oblivion, or even Fallout 3 - screams memetic bandwagon non-sense.

I think Daikatana was more hyped because a then famous game dev was behind it.

That game was just obsolete because the rest of the industry had moved on from Quake 2 by the time Daikatana came out.

Daikatana tried too hard. If you remove the poorly coded cpu companions and make the first area a bit less fucking ugly, then it's a pretty decent game.

I put way too many damn hours into too human. Such a cool concept for a world but horrible controls and shit 💩 loot. Still, me and a buddy played the fuck out of it. Once those mis as fuck games that just sticks with you and wonder why the hell am I still playing this but you continue to.

There is actually one of those project mods that supposedly fixes the AI, and a lot of other things. Havent tried it myself though.
And i agree woth others, Diakatana really wasnt THAT bad, just a bit meh compared to expectations.

It was also a game that got better as you got further into the game. It was a game that had some good ideas, but too much screwing around at the studio caused the game to slip.

Daikatana for sure. That game was hyped to be the next big thing. It was not good.

I don't remember too human being anymore than a game people were interested in. Dyack was out there hyping it up but no one really cared too much about what he was saying as he was known as a blowhard.

Edit: for those saying Starfield I can't take you seriously at all. No one with half a brain cell expects revolutionary awe inspiring gameplay from Bethesda at this point. Starfield delivered exactly what would be expected from Bethesda.
