Literally no other major pop star has released an album since Beyonce, tho. All the other ladies are gearing up for 2015.

BEYONCE has yet to outsell Rihanna's last album, actually.

Huh? Unapolagetic has lower sales than Beyoncé where I've just looked.

That's all well and good, but can she sing chords?

I think she's just somehow managing to employ the vestibular folds at the same time as her vocal folds, so she's singing two notes simultaneously, sort of like a much less impressive version of what throat singers do.

It's a cool trick, honestly, but it's not nearly as impressive as singing with the sort of resonance and control that Beyonce does.

If sales didn't matter none of those three ladies should be up there :p

What is your criteria, then?

BTW--HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUMEISUS!!

Why, thank you. Was this topic my birthday present? :O

That's my point. Is she just the another new flavor of the month like Katie Perry and Lady Gaga?

Artist like Whitney Houston, Mariah, and even Beyonce delivered hits over a decade through several music industry style iterations and managed to stay relevant. Can you honestly say this Arianna person is anything close to that level yet?

I mean she just started her music career (My Everything was her second album) and as fellow Ariana fan botty linked, she's already accomplishing major feats like having 3 singles in the Billboard top 10 simultaneously.

It's safe to say that as long as she keeps releasing bops, breaks up with Big Sean and starts refining her sound, she'll be up there with the holy trinity in no time.

Oh, was Rihanna in the OP list?

It's not comparable. Rihanna's album had a full year start before Beyonce came out. That metric is irrelevant. But she did sell more than Unapologetic did in a week in 3 days breaking a record. Unapologetic was Rihanna's first best selling album and debut album week ever in her whole career. That's it.

You don't know what "flavor of the month" means.

Fixed that for you.

As I pointed out in the OP, Bey hasn't had a hit since Single Ladies. Years ago.

Even Beyonce, for all it's hype, came and went like a gentle fart in the wind. No impact to speak of.

Grande is not even on Perry's and Gaga's level, atleast saleswise. They had huge worldwide hits.

Maybe Adele would be better placed than Beyonce?

Too early in her career. Maybe if she has sustained relevance for over a decade, while reinventing the artist's relationship with the listener and putting out one of the top 5 albums of the year...then she will be ready to play with Beyoncé.

Ariana has huge worldwide hits. She is the #1 Artist on iTunes, globally. She is the #1 streaming Artist.

She also is really big in Japan.

Beyonce is better than Celine Dion. I don't know if people try to downplay Beyonce's vocal abilities on purpose or not, but she really is a great singer.

Sis, she ran the media while not even being apart of it for a complete year since Beyoncé dropped. She won the VMAs vanguard award. She had BET pressed to the point they had to make a whack joke about her child to get ratings. She just finished a huge tour in Paris which HBO paid the rights just to show. Saturday Night Live made a skit about her power. Her impact is real. Kim Kardashian can't even go on national television to talk about her wedding without everyone asking her if someone more popular than her came to her wedding.

Also when did having a power ballad made someone a legend? How is that metric even being used to compare her fairly. That basically is saying that Whitney, Mariah, Celine and whomever didn't become who they are if it wasn't for one song... Not their actual talent. I don't get this.

Ariana knew to conquer the word's most valuable music market. Poor others that have not and cannot.

She is known here for being successful in UK and US. Didn't know about Japan, thanks. The point still stands, I Kissed a Girl, Hotn Cold, Poker Face etc. were way bigger. But she is on her starting point, everything could happen.

So what would the male trinity be? Adam Lambert + MJ + Freddie?

Elton John? Not so active anymore, but some of his songs are still extremely huge.

Could you back up this subjective, dismissive nonsense?

Arianna also has an over reliance on guest artists. It's why I wasn't too familiar with her as a solo artist because I just figured she was hook girl. All the other major artist on this thread had several hits where they were the sole performer. You couldn't accuse them having to ride the coat-tails of other artists to have hits and reach a wide audience.

Lol, of course you wouldn't. You live in a entirely different dimension where Celine dion is apart of the Holy Trinity but Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Diane Warwick, Anita Baker, Chaka Khan is not.

Don't forget, Christina Aguilera is a legend. Good sis Royalan stans for losers. It was a revelation.

Stopped. Was just being cheeky, didn't mean to offend.

I know, but it's just annoying when every PopGAF topic has people coming in making "clever" comments to that effect, or else making complaints about how incomprehensible PopGAF is (it isn't; you just can't read). It gets old.

Patty will and has outsung everyone, but let's not act like Whitney was mediocre.

And Whitney is amazing. I Am Changing in 1986 is astonishingly good.
