A BCN report about the purchase age/sex of NINTENDO DS and PSP owners based on a the store membership card of 14,140 people.

The ratio with which DS and PSP sold to people in their 20s and his/her 30's became both 69%. The result that DS has many users in his/her 30's and his 40's, and PSP has many users in his/her teens.

GAF needs more charts. :P

OMG PSP IS TEH KIDDIE!11

I'm surprised more 30- and 40-somethings are buying the DS, frankly. That's an interesting predicament.

I'm not suprised by this at all.
Most older people I've shown the DS seem to understand how to control it because of the touch screen and seem to like it more than they would a GameCube or a GBA.

The DS is getting Nintendo to older people and to females.

30s and 40s could be buying for their kids. Buying is the point of the survey, not using. :P

Well, golly, sir, I assumed it was a poll of people buying it for personal use! That would make loads of sense, I suppose. OR MAYBE THEY ARE BUYING THEM FOR THEMSELVES AND THE PSP IS KIDDIE!!11

Either way, these are pointless. Folks are going to twist these statistics to their own delight.

The only really telling thing from these charts is that people in their 20s are the most likely to stand in lines on launch day.

EDIT: Also I just noticed that the percentage of 20-somethings was lowest on December 11th and 12th, which I guess makes sense... because more of that age group would be in the PSP launch lines too.

Could probably be better summarized as
PSP = everyone
DS = Nintendo fans

Anyone contesting Sony's mindshare and control over Japan is not very smart.

Being broke and crappy did not stop PS2 and it won't PSP either. PSP is a good thing for developers with studios dedicated to PSP development a possibility, DS is more of the same (1~2 programmers per project, whopee).

I think they'll wait to see whether the attach rate is closer to PS2 or GBA before breaking out the shovels.

I've been saying that for weeks. The plot is thickening every day.

Nintendo's been screaming for awhile that they're trying to expand the market and turn people who don't traditionally play games into gamers. Some cried 'BS', but who's the man now, dog?

... so uh, does the TOS say anything about dumbasses?

Anyway, interesting stuff. I remember seeing some for the N64 and I think the average N64 owner was 18+ or something. I believe the demographic percentages lined up pretty well with Playstation ones. I'll have to dig that up if I can.

And yes, that has absolutely nothing to do with how well the systems sold overall (I really shouldn't have to be so cautious, but I just don't trust the trolls).

Like the fucking HUGE Konami studio that did so much work on Metal Gear Ac!d? The best voice work ever!

Wait a minute....

Proof: PSP for hip and cool teenage market; DS for clueless, uncool old fogeys.

I am kind of stunned. Nintendo did what they said they were going to do. I mean, they got somewhere between a fifth to a quarter of females. That is like for every 3 guys that buy it, one girl.

Also, I think that age chart shows people who previously are scared of buying videogames, buying it. But I wonder why they didn't do a chart of how many consoles these people have had before. That would have been more relevant.

I think you are very biased.

Also I think the given stats aren't good enough to get some reliable info about.

Actually that would be a really good idea (and it would make for great PR)

Nintendo will probably eventually do just that sometime post Christmas.
