Why do you need a stand for the Playstation 5 if it stands up by itself

It's one of the weirdest things I've recently seen gamers get pissed off about. I have my series X vertical for now, I recently moved it and the power cord reaches slightly further and I've been too lazy to buy another extension cord, but other than that, I've never had any of my consoles vertical.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
I think some people just paranoid the a vertical ps5 without stand is not "stable". But im sure as long no one is stupid enough to purposely knockover, it should be fine.

If you have a dog or cat at home, well its a diff story

Doesn’t bother me personally, but I’d guess people would like to have additional stability when in the vertical position. Could prove useful in the event something unexpected happens like an earthquake or someone bumping into a shelf it’s resting on.

I have the fat ps5 that came with a stand. Wouldnt buy one if it didnt though, it's useless

I don't know about the Pro, but there's some hilarious videos of the digital slim around. It isn't particularly stable in vertical or horizontal position with the legs included. I've noticed in several videos people are using some kind of third-party support on the narrow side.

If people are fine with this, they will eventually go the apple route by removing other accessories like the controller in the future. Just watch...they are testing our temperament with these small decisions. As for the newer models, it's still dumb for sony to not include it for people that do stand it vertically for the added stability, and went cheap with those stand pieces for those placing it horizontally. I do think that sony's design for the ps5 is terrible regardless. All of these curves does not do anything. They could have created a more traditional, standard looking console that just sits without all of the extra work.

I'm just gonna get Glistco skates for the pro when they come out with them asap.

Have them for the fat PS5 as soon as they came out and sold my OG stand for a good chunk and haven't looked back. Best horizontal stand I've seen for the PS5.

because it has a relatively small footprint when standing up, people/kids/pets are stupid fuckers and could easily knock it over.

Unironically the PS5 needs a stand when it's positioned horizontally more than it does vertically. That fucker wobbles like a bitch when plugging anything into the USB because of its ridiculous shape.

Yeah, which makes me wonder: If you don't buy a stand, can you not have the Pro in horizontal position? Since it doesn't come with one. The stand you can buy is also just for vertical position right? So is the Pro simply not made to be horizontal at all?

Edit: Guess it does come with those same Slim feet to keep it stable in horizontal position.

Man, the PS5 in general is such a dumb design. I don't hate how it looks personally, but just the fact that unlike basically all other electronics ever made it can't just sit horizontally without extra bits and pieces.

To sell you a peripheral of course
Quite the opposite. Sony's green credentials are such that they don't want you buying one at all made of resources that shouldn't be wasted and just want you to put it sideways on its belly with the free feet provided or stand it upright, without.

No it comes with wedges, probably made of some sustainable plastic/bamboo that levels it up on its side. But I only know that because I watched a video because I had the same thought.

I never used any of my consoles vertically, but I still find it cheap not to include a stupid plastic stand with a so-called Pro console. Well, I guess they need to squeeze all the money they can out of consumers, and selling overpriced accessories is an easy way to do it.

They aren't. It is about green credentials.

As an example the box that my Xperia 1 V came in probably cost more to make than anyone should spend on small production packaging, but the bamboo paper it is made from is exquisite like something so high quality you would put priceless jewellery in by it being light, strong like wood/plastic and luxury tactile like velvet to the touch.

The phone like the rest doesn't come with a charging cable or charger, but does have essential phone jack and rear firing speakers to sound better than an old radio/ghetto blaster unit in a kitchen for music which are features that cost them more,

Its needed for the horizontal position, not really for vertical but I bet they made the stand work both ways so that people didn't moan about losing it.

Oh, ps5 pro... doesnt include a vertical stand. I never used the stand when vertical.

I think it might be more because a stand that could do both vertical and horizontal positions was included with the console at launch, but was removed with the Slim onward.
now you have the horizontal stand and can still put it vertically without it

They need to recoup their Concord losses.

I bought a puppy this year, and it didn’t come with a lead, food, or bed. Did I go on to a puppy forum to complain? Nope, because that would be insane.

No pun intended, but gamers are a different breed.

I wonder why Sony included a stand originally? If it is unnecessary, why did they go to the expense of providing one?

But, I think the main controversy comes from them previously providing 11pence worth of plastic for free but now the equivalent item is £25.

The slim is....slim and more stable in a vertical position according to the internet, and so presumably doesn't need one. But the Slim stand does work with an OG PS5 too and comes with thread converter too so it aligns to the OG model. But Sony probably have a sensor in the OG PS5 telling them the orientation in use to know that most Slim and Pro users won't need a vertical stand.

I couldn't stand by myself first time I saw PS5. The thing looks like it came straight out of the gates of Mordor.

My reason is purely down to stability, airflow and that my day one and last OG PS5 came with a stand and disk drive. I don't understand how the pro product of something doesnt come with them. Not even Apple would pull that kind of fuckery to their customers / fans.

Considering the amount of stability updates the PS console family has had over the years. It should stand up to a nuclear blast.

I think it was a brilliant idea from Sony to make PS5 modular. I hope PS6 will remain the modularity, but will not require a stand.

I think it was created to lessen the chance of the accidental tip-over, and increase airflow. To prevent sucking up any unnecessary debris placing it directly on the surface it's placed on especially a floor.
