Yeah, if a earthquake happened, the first thing I would think about is if my ps5 is still standing!Doesn’t bother me personally, but I’d guess people would like to have additional stability when in the vertical position. Could prove useful in the event something unexpected happens like an earthquake or someone bumping into a shelf it’s resting on.

Because people need extra room in the budget for their PS5 Pro equivalent PCPartPicker list. Can someone explain why this is such a big deal and why we are discussing it in ps5 pro threads.
I have mine horizontal so I just don't get it.
why we are discussing it in ps5
Exactly. Including slim and pro models there's been about a dozen Playstation styles since PS2 and only 1 came with a vertical stand and that was the convertible-style in the PS5. I'm pretty sure people complained about the stand around launch but I don't remember what they were complaining about. Why are people acting like PS5 is the first console with an optional vertical stand? I really don't remember such discussion from PS4 or PS3 or earlier generations..

But seriously, these stands are probably quite a huge source of income for Sony. They've been making them since the ps2, and they're obviously dirt cheap to make.
Selling them is easy money.
Not really. Been through plenty of earthquakes, especially in the Philippines where my wife’s family lives. Nothing serious ever happens, but things in the house have fallen over before. If there's an earthquake I think you've got bigger things to worry about.
you might be thinking of the liquid metal ?Didn't PS5 have problems with some component risking sliding down if put vertical? I won't take any chances so mine PS5 will be horisontal always.
Yeah sure. The PS6 won't require a stand because Sony hates to sell overpriced plastic garbage stands and doesn't need money.I think it was a brilliant idea from Sony to make PS5 modular. I hope PS6 will remain the modularity, but will not require a stand.
But then they would charge more, so why not give those who want that a choice? Seems like good product design to me.My bigger issue is not coming with disc drive since 90% of my game collection are physical copy.
The included stand in the normal PS5 is trash.
Unironically the PS5 needs a stand when it's positioned horizontally more than it does vertically. That fucker wobbles like a bitch when plugging anything into the USB because of its ridiculous shape.
