Why does everyone like street fighter so much?

Dont get me wrong , street fighter is a decent fighting game.

But come on ,there are much better games than street fighter , not enough moves and the 2-d ness means less moves right off the bat (no dodging or side movies for example).

And then there are the tekken fans , TEKKEN SUCKS PEOPLE , its easy and theres a pathetic amount of moves.

Am i the only one that thinks virtua fighter kills all other fighting games???

More moves, more fluid , wicked animation.

( if you think tekken has more moves...pleease do yourself a favor and go look at the moves list for virtua fighter 4 evolution on PS2.

For example , this is the moves list for one character - vanessa : http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/virtua_fighter_4_evo_vanessa.txt

its about 13 pages long, for one character.

Now obviously you cant judge a fighting game solely on the amount of moves it has , im saying that virtua fighter kills tekken and street fighter in every single aspect thats important in fighting games.

So why are you people still clinging to the old-ass 2-d street fighter routine?

because the game is addictive and a blast to play when playing 2 player. You are obviously a n00b and don't understand.

Street fighter is like chess, its all about skill and strategy. You cannot button mash on street fighter and expect to beat someone good. I have been playing street fighter since the beginning and I am damn good.

I still play street fighter 2 to this day. Which says alot for a game that is over 10 years old.

Tekken is cool and has a nice overall theme, characters and presentation. And it's really funny.
I don't travel across the world playing tournaments so Virtua Fighters not really that important for me.

yes,im obviously a noob because i find street fighter too easy.

It tells me that you think youre good at it,and dont dare try a different one for fear of losing a fight. Now obviously i may be wrong.

You brought up a good point , street fighter is 10 years old. move on. virtua fighter is superior in every aspect.

Im not saying street fighter takes no skill , it obviously does, but not as much as virtua fighter.
( i say this because of the plethora of moves to memorize , and the difficulty to pull off counter maneuvers)

(This is to beowolf btw. )

Soul Calibur is decent , but no , it is also WAY too easy.
Not enough moves , especially in the grabs department.
pretty game tho.

Because Chun Li has big boobs. And all other fighters don't have girls with big boobs, including games like DOA.

Because MK sucks, and no one (except on forums) seem to play Guilty Gear or KOF.

The bigger question is, why do VF fans feel as though that boring ass fighter is the holy grail of the genre. I will always have more fun, and a better time playing 2d fighters, especially this one:

That is such an awesome game. Best 2d fighter. There I said it.

im 22, so yea i was around when street fighter came out , it was the shit back then.
like you said, 10 YEARS AGO.

doesnt hold a torch to vf

how could you call virtua fighter boring? please explain.

is more moves boring? more fluidity? or does the whole 3-d aspect make you dizzy?

EDIT: the only reason games like marvel vs capcom 2 keep coming out is because you guys are silly enough to buy the same damn game over and over , its almost as bad as sports fans buying madden every year because the announcer has a few new lines or theres a new deek maneuver. GOTTA HAVE EM ALL

Street Fighter Alpha 3 is the best fighting game EVER, as far as I'm concerned.

(maybe it's because I am the self-proclaimed king of this game :))

In terms of fun the Capcom crossover series are still unparelled. Why do they left out that kind of game nowadays?

Because it didn't sell on the PS2. But I think it did really good on the dreamcast. So they probably decided not to do another one.

In the first half, you firmly establish that the number of moves is what defines a "good fighter", to you.

Now obviously you cant judge a fighting game solely on the amount of moves it has , im saying that virtua fighter kills tekken and street fighter in every single aspect thats important in fighting games.
Then you claim that wasn't your point at all, but that magical mystery differences are what make some games better than Street Fighter.

What, good sir, defines a "good fighter" to you?

Whats disturbing is that there are a lot of people slobbing all over VF but completely suck. :-/

ill take the rapist for 300. uhhh mr connery thats therapist.

ill take the penis mightier than the sword. mr connery thats the PEN is mightier than the sword.

edit : ronin - i dont suck. im not a self-proclaimed master or anything , but im damned good with vanessa, goh and kage.

Its boring as hell, because it just is. Don't know why. And for the record, I am pretty good in 3d fighters. Soul Calibur 2, Tekken, and the DoA series. VF is just boring.

I didn't know people were still playing SF as their fighting game of choice.

Street Fighter is legendary, no doubt about that, but Virtua Fighter is clearly the best fighting game series right now. Everyone else is playing catch-up.

i picked up guilty gear DS last week :D anyone else get it? it's awsome, but replay is really cut short with the lack of Wifi support (not that anyone woudl play it anywyas :()

So, more moves = better game ?

Don't get me wrong, 2D fighting games are a lot more enjoyable, in my opinion, than 3D fighting games. I agree that VF is the pinnacle of 3D fighting games, however....

VF < Third Strike < Garou : Mark Of The Wolves

^^^^^^^^^^

The holy trinity right there, in the correct order.

Comparing Viruta Fighter or Tekken to Street Fighter is completely pointless considering that there are some major differences. For example, both VF and Tekken have characters that don't have projectile moves, but SF does.

"What the fuck did you just say"

Because i could spend all my allowance just playing it on the arcades. Because i would buy it for my console and me and my friends would do Tournments.

Because Ryu is suchs a badass, HaduKen bitch

Why is there more and more threads like this?

Anyways Street Fighter was popular for a time and it was great and all that it still is if anyone still plays them. IMO, Street Fighter III: Third Strike is the best Street Fighter game and Capcom Vs. SNK 2 is much better than Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 though MvC is alright too.

But don't get too excited junior, mainstream popularity died back in the 90's yet for the underground fans it's been alive and well, making people like justin wong popular in tournys.

Street fighter at this stage is legendary. A game that is over 10 years old, that still gets regular play around the world is amazing. VF is a good game, but when it comes to playability, fun, longevity it cannot hold a candle to street fighter 2.

It's pretty much the core of 2D beat'em-ups,not to mention that the combat is much faster than 3D fighters.
I personally love Garou motw more now though :)

Not enough people like it, that's why we don't have fucking Street Fighter IV already.
Damn I want some SF 4. :*(
If you've been following the storyline... Ryu is going to be god-like in IV. He's supposedly surpassed Akuma without Dark Hadou.

I don't even thing 2D and 3D fighters are comparable, the experience and methods of play are just too different. Both have brilliant examples in their respectivev categories
And then there are the tekken fans , TEKKEN SUCKS PEOPLE , its easy and theres a pathetic amount of moves.

Tekken hate annoys the schit out of me; the game is completely solid. No it's not nearly as deep as VF, but it's still probably the second deepest 3D fighter (personally I think it's a lot deeper than SC). It's only easy and cheap if you play as the easy and cheap characters.
