Why does the PSX hype seem muted compared to last year?

As I said in another thread, people are released of the built up hype from the 3 titles nobody thought would ever happen. Now we don't know what they are going to show, but it's exciting to know we can appreciate what is shown and not compare it to the significance of another announcement.

PSX has changed. It's no longer about megatons, teasers or insider leaks. It's an endless series of manufactured excitement, fought by advertisement companies and social media departments. PSX, and its consumption of grassroots hype, has become a well-oiled machine.

PSX has changed. Sony-tagged social media channels post Sony-tagged trailers, suppress Sony-tagged insider leaks. NDA clauses inside contracts suppress and regulate leaks. Information control. Leak control. Insider control. Hype control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control.

PSX has changed. The age of insiders has become the age of control. All in the name of averting disappointment because everything leaked in advance. And he who controls the social media channels, controls the hype.

PSX has changed. When the hype is under total control, PSX... becomes routine.

Well said my friend

I think the crappy news about backwards compatibility (can you even call it backwards compatibility at this point?) too the wind out of a lot of people's sails.

Is Sony even doing the theatre thing for this year? if not, then I think they know this show won't be that impressive.

Yeah, I think it's a combo platter of E3 already being so great, Paris Games Week being kinda middling, not as much insider hype to fan fires, and a knowledge of how things went last year.

Hoping to see one or two cool looking things revealed, but I don't expect there will be much revealed that I have a personal interest in.

Hopefully this means there won't be pages of complaining and show bashing if Sony doesn't nuke the Sun.

Yeah I don't really understand what's going on here. I enjoyed PSX last year, I thought it delivered cool announcements. I don't think the PS2 announcement this week is an awful thing, people make it sound like it was worse that they released this feature than did nothing before.

And, like plenty of people here including those who are actually going, I'm excited for this year. PSX is for the big Playstation fans for myself. It's where you get mostly the small announcements that aren't always suited for E3. Such as what Sony Bend has been working on.

Maybe I'm just not cynical enough yet.

I think most of the really good stuff sony had planned has already leaked out/been released.

I hope they have something more, but I don't expect it.

It's not because of E3 2015 that there is no hype leading up to this one. It's because of how the hypetrain derailed at last years PlayStation Experience.

God of War 4 would be huge if we got some gameplay. Some live demos for Uncharted and Horizon would be cool. And maybe that big budget Sony JRPG.

I'm still spent and content from E3 this year. If there are any other huge bombs to end this year out I'm going to have to go to rehab

EDIT : Oh man how did I forget TGS, this has got to be one of the best years ever for gaming annoucements

E3 and Tokyo Game Show had me shook.

Fan in SFV is already gonna level me.

I'm good, Sony.

Sony Bend is going to be there and it's good peoples expectations are in check. Expect a nice show and that's it. If you're going in with the mindset of E32015 spare me the " I'm disappointed in this year's show" threads

Honestly, I just hope they go out on a high note. It always makes the event feel a bit worse than it was as a whole if they don't end with that crunch.

Their PS2 announcement completely killed my hype, completely disappointed in the direction they are going. I'm salty now.

If they had 200+ PS2 games to unveil, I probably wouldn't even mind paying for them that much. But the fact that they are going to slowly drizzle games out a handful at a time is just completely disheartening. It seems unlikely that they will ever get to the games I would want.

The PS2 emulation was supposed to be my big thing but now that I know what it really is nothing else that they can announce is going to excite me.

Because last year, we had no ideas really what PSX was all about...This year we know, it will be a fun conference with a few little surprises....

Loved the show overall, but they really didn't learn about the ending from last year :lol

I got reallh hyped up last year and then thought the show was terrible, so it's zero hype for me this year.
I'll pick up the few interesting bits on GAF after the fact. (A few noteable headlines, but nothing I'm excited by so far, so I think I made the right call.)

Did something fall through?

Like was God of War meant to be the actual closer but the guy with the video got stuck in traffic or something?

God of War is an E3-level type of hype.

Two years of PSX have shown that it's more about all the other games. E3 is for the bombs.

1200 posts in FF7R gameplay thread in two hours says otherwise.

Yeah, but as a poster said above me, it started off well, and was really front loaded, but most people agree that it dropped off, especially at the end (save for NNKII), especially with that weird cut ending.

As my first major event as an adult Sony console owner, this event left me strangely dissatisfied. In many ways, it was everything that apparently used to make xbox owners "bad". Lots of COD, lots of remakes, a distressing amount of "boo ya!", but not from the crowd, from the stage..Sony have some really, err...funny onions on their payroll... Oh, and a cirque de soleil esque horror of a tech demo for a peripheral. Before I bought my ps4 I was worried that my Xbone would be overshadowed by events like this. Now, not so much.
