I'm talking quality wise
In that case, it was surpassed in 1994.

You describe her like she's an RPG character and not an actual person. She is musical and entertainment. I don't think she's edgy, so people have to drop drawing any comparisons with Madonna.
Mariah Carey can go the distance automatically because she's very likeable by design, and product driven. She's not pushing boundaries or changing the industry by any significance. Her persona is very comfortable.
Therefore she does what she has to do to get the numbers going, and in that sense she definitely deserves all the success.
Last Christmas has already been surpassed
#2) The Pogues – "Fairytale of New York" (1987): $630,000
Am I the only one that has to compulsively find the original link to xkcd comics posted here so I can read the alt text?

17 - All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey
Is Mariah the only Pop girl willing to take on Adele??
the slayage!!!!!!
I'm not surprised that song sells well individually. On the strength of that song I bought that album... big goddamn mistake. Outside of that song the rest of that album is hot garbage.
Holy crap. No way.I have literally never heard of this song.
Holy crap. No way.
SCREAMING at all the denial of ha flawfree #ICONIC Xmas bop. Take several seats, sis. This failed shade on Godiah just because she snatched the weaves of all your faves. Fall back.
I have literally never heard of this song.
Didn't really give a shit about this song until Love Actually

Fairytale of New York will always be the best Christmas song.

Anyone who disagrees is wrong and they know itFairytale of New York will always be the best Christmas song.
I saw Mariah sing this at a concert in New York 2 weeks ago and it was amazing. Never really appreciated her growing up, I think she won't be fully appreciated until after she's gone. Kind of like Michael Jackson
Whew the praise is endless
NYT just wrote up this excellent article on Mariah's immortality - Absolutely amazing.

It's weird how nationally specific this is. I rarely hear any of those songs as all the popular Christmas music here is from the 70s and early 80s.
