Why the MGS/Kojima trailer love?

Seriously. I can understand liking them on a technical level as an awesome showcase of power, but to say that Kojima makes the best trailers, or even halfway decent previews of his game, is a damn lie. There's all this effort to make a cinematic experience except every five seconds of footage is interjected with either poorly translated or poorly written technobabble. Not to mention the trailers abysmally fail at creating any sort of coherent reality necessary for dramatic tension. Now watch as Snake runs up a mountain without cover as 15 choppers fire machine guns at him. Surprise, he surv MEME ives and kills em all!

Are you just gripping for the sake of gripping?

I guess they're haters for all sorts of things, but this forum is very pro MGS trailers...

This is arguably the dumbest thing I've read on GAF...

...this week. Which is still a pretty big accomplishment!

Anyway, why the MGS/Kojima trailer love? Besides typically being brilliant, they usually showcase a high technical bar which impresses on a visual level. At attention to detail beyond other devs. Fantastic editing. Similarly, the MGS2 trailer alone was one of the most important events in the early PS2 life. The importance of the MGS4 trailer remains to be seen, but there's no doubt there are high expectations and high hopes. Because the teasers/trailers always own, and because Metal Gear Solid rocks.

Shit! Did I just take the bait?

wtf? :lol

I've given up trying to explain things to some people. You give an opinion = you're biased and just doing damage control. You try and balance it by giving more than one angle = bias and just pretending to be impartial. You say something totally bias = justified because everyone else is bias.

So, for the record, I like the trailers because...I just do. That's all you're getting from me

Honsetly, if you really dislike them that much, I feel somewhat sorry for you. I can't possibly fathom how anyone could not enjoy watching those trailers (provided they are interested in games at all).

I can't imagine what it is you actually are wanting here. What are you looking for in a game trailer?

I poo on people like you.......

I remember, before the days of cheap and easy DVD, UK magazines putting VHS's on their mags solely with the MGS2 trailer on it after E3 2000. 'Nuff said.

Yeah i remember those, i wish i had one of those tapes.

Would be quite an asset to my humble MGS collection.

Its already been said, but Kojima makes sure the MGS trailers are entertaining... a seperate entity from the final product, but an allusion to it. Its rare to see some creative effort put into a trailer seperately in this way imo.

Plus, Metal Gear Solid 3 was the fucking shit.

Hehe, I bought a magazine just for that VHS, and then I bought the official DVD. :)
