Kojima says too many games look the same, won't be playing the MGS remake

Dude invented loading screens in a lifeboat sized spaceship in Death Stranding 2 when something like Mass Effect had free movement almost 20 years ago.

Not to talk about "towns" which are copy pasted structures with zero real NPC's to talk with.

I wholeheartedly agree with him. But I think that if you want to diversify the industry Hi-Fi Rush! or Kumitsu Gami are the way forward, not an Amazon delivery simulator.

Really liked him from 1987-2004. But after that at some point he no longer stood out to me because of his work, but solely because of his self-glorification and constant display of pomposity.

Recalling an anecdote in which he visited a notable studio (which wasn't named) to advice on a new stealth game it was working on, Kojima said he was unimpressed with what he was shown.
So the studio; fawning in reverence over your credentials and expertise invited you as an honoured guest and stalwart of tactical espionage action games to come and advise them on how they can improve their title…

And you decide to not only look down on their efforts with contempt but to throw them under a bus and shit on them to the media…?

Not a great look Kojima-san…

Me and Kojima see eye to eye on this one. Way too many RPGs with medival fantasy themes, or just soulslike games in general. They all look the same so much that I dont feel like I'm missing out on anything different if I dont play them. You play one soulslike or medival fantasy RPG, you've pretty much played them all.

Which is kind of petty if true, since Okamura, Korekado, and others who are in charge of MGS seem to respect him.

David Hayter also moved on, played MGSV after being replaced by Kiefer, liked it, and is now pretty much the face of franchise.
To be honest, I hope Konami and Kojima and Kojima team reconcile, at least no more hard feelings even if they will have separate studios.

and you just know Delta will sell more than DS2
Possibly because it is a MGS game and MGS name is a pop culture name in gaming. But I have to see some live playthrough in youtube when it is launch to evaluate if its good. And it is Unreal engine 5 again so I will be cautious optimistic.

The "he felt like every game shown involved the player fighting either an alien or a medieval monster" is so true. I can picture the game now, a 3rd person action game with a generic protagonist in a field-like area with blue and red effects around each weapon slash. There's so many and they all look the same.

The usual

guy really is full of hinself and loves the smell of his own farts.

Guy is so up his own ass.

Dude smelling his own farts as usual.

insufferable, massively overrated, pretentious knob

Guy is so incredibly up his own ass.

a pretentious asshole.

My bingo card is full. He really triggers people, doesn't he? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

He's certainly not wrong. Death Stranding was and is the most unique big budget IP that exists out there. 2 continues to carry the torch. Big budget games have all been too similar and/or safe. That's been one of the biggest issues with them.

Of course he wouldn't play Delta, why would he? Lmao. I mean, why would anybody invest time into something that you created with your own hands that is no longer associated with you. Or potentially feels like it was taken from you.

Specifically? No. Any major dude in the industry who'd say this kind of bs would get the same reaction. Bingo card would be for those defending him as if hes Jesus.
Just a matter of perspective.
There is a lot to defend in my opinion and far less to criticize. For you, it's the other way.
I don't see people praising him like he is Jesus in threads on here, but a lot of the stuff I put in quotes above.

Agree.

I didn't particularly want a Death Stranding 2 but after playing it, was captivated by it. Glad the sales is doing well despite the polarising nature of the game.

Desperate to see what he comes up with next.

Someone should let Kojima know that not only do many of these games look the same, they also all play similarly. Including his games!!!

It would be amazing to see these developers revive arcade style experiences again. But that currently seems unlikely.

He's right, fuck the industry right now.

No wonder game devs are going down the shitter too many UE5 re-skin jobs!

Wait till AI takes over, holy moly.

And yet, he's trying to use photorealism, PBR and a bunch of other stuff that makes his games look the exact same as every other game on the market. How about we don't just use 3d scans and come up with original art styles and designs?

I fail to see how Death Stranding looks all that different from all the other 3d games on the market.

Been gaming since the late 80s and it's quite sad how games have gotten prettier, more expensive, less original and more shallow all at the same time.

Old games used to engage players' imagination in ways modern games rarely do. They used to inspire and blow your mind. Now they impress and are quickly forgotten.

And it's not just an age thing. It's about leaving more to the imagination, about keeping the player guessing what's next, and surprising them with things they didn't expect were possible within the game's framework.

Less is often more. But the real art is knowing exactly which features and experiences to include and which to leave the player wanting.

He does because his games are endless cringe, the shittiest stories, the shittiest dialogue, he has some good artists working for him at least.
The whole auteur thing is so ridiculous with such terrible quality writing.

I agree with everything except the gun dismantling part, if your game doesn't have a feature to dismantle gun why the F would you waste time learning that?
Looks like we might see that feature in his next project , Physint, a PS exclusive which is possibly a Ps6 launch game. So it is still a while before we see it, maybe 2029.

Can't even imagine how weird it must feel to get kicked out of a company and then see that company remake the game you made without you.

Disagree wholeheartedly :messenger_grinning: but of course you can have that opinion about his stories and dialogue.
The 'auteur thing' is about more than the story/writing. He is part of every piece of his games. Of course there are many people working towards the goal, but ultimately it's his vision...which you don't share or enjoy, I understand

Well, there's nothing more offensive to losers than an unapologetic winner.

And Kojima's on an unbroken win streak since 1987.

As a game designer, there's only really Shigeru Miyamoto above him, and that's discounting all the other hats Kojima routinely wears. I mean he's without question the best hype-man the industry has ever seen - look at P.T. A quickly knocked together promo gimmick that created its own subgenre despite never becoming a game!

He's basically the GOAT.
