Wii emulator can do 720p HD

:lol :lol I don't think lack of AA is anyone's concern here.

That only happens on the DolphinIL.exe. It plays perfectly fine (counting out some massive slowdown when supers are performed/characters are swapped mid-fight) on regular dolphin.exe (32 or 64 bit version).

Edit: Repost for new page:

Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy X run pretty much perfectly on the r877 build of the PS2 emulator.

I only have one issue with the former; some weird wavy textures/shades on buildings and a couple character's clothes.

This same issue happens in Silent Hill 4.

I really want to play KHII with the resolution bump, so please help me out.

out of interest, which build is this and what settings are you using? did you have to crop any black areas out of the screenshots?
R 2811, 32-bit, OpenGL, 1600x1200 with auto scale and native resolution both disabled (if they are not disabled, the game screen is stretched to the Dolphin window - just like in the original game - which produces an ugly output on the PC monitor), unused screen areas were cut. :-)

ah okay. i was running it like that too. i was hoping that there was a build that could properly display in 16:9 without letterboxing. guess i keep my fingers crossed. plus to be honest, there's a lot of other stuff that needs to be fixed to make the game playable.

i just feel that once it's 16:9 and playable, that potentially we'll have a version of RE4 that beats even a fully modded PC version.

I think there were complaints about the game having some kind of faked 16:9 where the screen was just zoomed in, so it wouldn't matter either way.
The only thing that needs fixing is the JIT bug that crashes the game on exiting menus. Apart from that, the game is running perfect.

The Wii edition beats a fully-modded PC version by default, through superior lighting and models.

A few more 1080p 4xAA shots. All running at a consistent 30fps with four characters on-screen, or around 45fps with two characters in play. I turn items to "Low" for increased stability.

i disagree. but then you prefer the look of the aliased, dithered and letterboxed (or horribly stretched) 480p look of the Wii version over the higher res version you posted screens of.

i think more people would take the higher res, undithered, anti aliased shots you posted over the original look.

the screen WAS just zoomed in yes, but that doesn't mean it can't be corrected in an emulator. there is already a crop option in Dolphin, it just doesn't crop nearly enough. even if it is upscaling the 1600 x 900 (or whatever it is) to fit a 1920 x 1200 (or 1080) monitor the upscaling is going to be done much better on a PC than the Wii did it.

all the current auto stretch + maintain aspect ratio options make me confident it can be done.

Yea, I think when all is said and done, it will play out like this graphically:

RE4:WE Emulated > RE4 (GCN) Emulated > RE 4 PC > RE4 GCN > RE4:WE > RE4 PS2 Emulated > RE4 PS2 > RE4 Mobile

Control-wise the Wii Edition is better than all the others no contest.

who even needs a wii anymore :O

I was playing a few of the 720p vids on youtube on my ps3 again, quite awesome :D

Anyone know if the Macbook Pro can run the emu (Under Vista x64)?

All I know is that it has a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed; or 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB shared L2 cache, 1066MHz frontside bus

And NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics processor (512MB of GDDR3 memory)

Go into the Graphics Plugin module settings and turn on Logarithmic-Z.

You're Welcome :)

To the person who wanted to play KHII: Try messing around with the Texture option in the video settings... I forgot what it was called. Note that thanks to removing the post processing effect there is sometimes garbage code that can give you a gray screen.

Edit: Or that ^ :lol

Anyway, the game will always have a gray screen from time to time. You have to savestate the game, switch to zeroGS, savestate again, then continue with gsdx. (graphics plugins)

Some Super Paper Mario pics since nobody has posted any... runs pretty well, except it freezes at the first cutscene with bowser.

DX10 did the trick for Kingdom Hearts II, but now I'm trying to run the game in D3D 1920x1080. It chugs a little, but it comes pretty close. Final Fantasy X seems to run with no flaws whatsoever.

Again, I'm using the r877 build. If anyone knows a more stable build or plugins I could try to run KHII near perfectly, I'd love to hear them.

Also, what program do you use to take such large high res pics? I use Fraps but I don't see any option to make the res any higher.

Example of what upscaling looks like (not re-rendering, done on PS3).

Maybe it's just me, but it just seems that some color and detail are taken away when you upscale.

Those Paper Mario shots look amazing. Great captures.

How did it run for you?

Edit: Why are we talking about PS2 emulation/upscaling here? It deserves its own thread (and I believe there is one).

Depends on the Upscaler on the HDTV.
My HDTV is quite good at it luckly, but others I've seen are kinda bad.

Both screens you posted are upscaled - one is just done by TV and the other by the PS3.

looks like some sort of blur filter

man, that looks amazing, can a bc ps3 do this for all ps2?

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting that TVs upscale. ><

I still don't know which is better. While one doesn't have the jaggies, detail is lost.

I wonder if they could somehow do it while retaining some of the detail?

You can disable that filter on the PS3 by turning off the Smooth Option.

not all of them , some will look fantastic like MGS 2 and 3 or ZOE2 , FFXII and GT3 and GT4 and God Of War 2, some will look like shit like DMC , Onimusha 3 and Indigo Prophcy .

on PS3 it depends on many things , like Native Res of the games and if support Widescreen or not ,Games with lower native resolution that normal PS2 games ( ICO , Yazuka ..ect) look like shit .

but for some unknown reasons , all PS2 Cell Shaded games ( Dark Cloud 2 , Dragon Quest 8 ,Rogue Galaxy ..ect ) looks absolutely amazing and near this gen on PS3 , Dunno why ,but they just look THAT good .

It ran alright. it was pretty much at 60 FPS when it did work. but as i said, it freezes during the first cutscene, so you don't actually get to gameplay.

btw, i have a stock e8400, 4GB of ram, and a 9800GT if you were wondering about my setup

Wow, I was just about to request some Endless Ocean pics.

I would so like to play that on my HDTV, but I'm afraid the grim reality with Nintendo is that we may never see a Wii+ or WiiHD.

So, uh, how do I convince my drive to recognize Wii discs? Do these emulators even work with original discs?

No.

I think Wii discs actually run in reverse or something weird like that.

You need to get the game out of the disc somehow.

I think...

It's to early for this. @_@

Apparently you need some special LG DVD drive to read them, and the emulator (AFAIK), despite having a DVD drive option, only loads ISOs.
I'm still looking for some way to rip my own discs to test this emulator, but apparently I'm unable to find a way that doesn't involve those LG drives for my PC or installing shady stuff in my Wii :/

Nope, the discs run normally. The whole disc is crypted. The inner layer of the disc has a barcode, which has the de-crypting key for the disc.

PC drives can't read the barcode.

i went the 'shady stuff in the wii' route. i'm running 4.0 firmware and still able to rip, though i had to downgrade to 3.2 from 3.4 to get the emulator and ripping working in the first place.

i couldn't tell you if my wii could run pirated software cause i've never even cared to try. it was dolphin that prompted me to mod my wii.

to play wii games on Dolphin you need a file called masterkey.bin

this file can not be legally shared online, though it can be extracted from a modded wii.

in other words, you're either downloading stuff you shouldn't, or modding your wii. the first is illegal, the second is merely shady.

same there, except i cant rip ssbb
it literally talks 1-2 hours, then it froze at 58%
are you using a hhd or usb thumbdrive

SSBB is a dual layer game, maybe that has something to do with it

I want to belive this thread is some kind of viral experiment started by Nintendo to check if there is enough demand for a HD Wii.

i'm ripping wirelessly. it's slow, but it works. i haven't tried SSBB yet but when i go to rip it gives me a separate option for ripping dual layer games (like Brawl).
