Wii Screen Shot Thread (56k no)

That looks interesting. All those icons on screen made me wonder why we haven't seen more games which are heavily menu driven like some PC games since the Wiimote works like a mouse.

I'm really, really hoping for games like Aerobiz, Railroad Tycoon, Sim City, Civ III, etc. These would all make a great home that haven't traditionally translated well to a console format.

I wonder why it seems like Konami is the only ones not afraid to try normal mapping on the Wii. From that interview awhile ago, it didn't seem very hard for them to do, and (not that I'm dissing them),the Elebits team isn't exactly Konami's A-listers. Just seems like a damn shame that the big guys like Ubisoft and EA, who have more money and resources than God to do this type of stuff, are being shown up by a team of like 20. Funny when you think about it.

I'm kind of hoping for stuff like Titan Quest or Sacred. But its probably wishful thinking.

If you take out "normal mapping" it's still true

+1 for making a new thread. Put this one in the archives or something and make a new one before the next big media blowout (E3/E for All etc.)

Keen Games has a Wii license. They usually do ports for Ascaron, the developers of Sacred. They are currently working on Anno for DS and an unannounced game for Wii. I hope it's Sacred. I guess it's also Anno, though...

Dragon Quest Swords

Forgive the translation:

After Dragon Quest IX: Protectors of the Sky on Nintendo DS yesterday, Square Enix diffuses some details relating to Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and The Tower of Mirrors on Wii always in the Japanese magazine Shonen Jump. One discovers as well as the player will have the possibility of improving his sword in the shop of the corner during the adventure, it will have obviously the choice between the steel sword, the sword of the thunder, the sword of the storm, the sword of the flames, etc. It is pointed out that this new shutter of the series Dragon Quest will propose to the player to be useful of the controller of Wii as a sword to fight the monsters which appear on the screen in a subjective sight. The exit of the play is always scheduled for next 12 July in Japan.

There's some "shader" usage in Red Steel, and that isn't Ubisoft's A-team either.

From Jeux-France (via Babelfish...):

This version should exploit the functionalities of detection of movements of the Wii controller, to note that it will be also possible to play with the traditional lever of Wii for a more traditional style of gameplay.

Hopefully.

Golden Compass

Wow. When I was reading this I actually thought to myself, "now THIS could be a great game."

This is based on a wonderful short-series of books by Phillip Pullman called His Dark Materials. The three books are "The Golden Compass," "The Subtle Knife," and "The Amber Spyglass." It takes place in an alternate historical setting in which steam power became the dominant form of energy and the world is really stuck in a Victorian setting for a couple hundred years. Awesome books, and if this game is even remotely in line with the books, you guys are in for a great story. Watch for these. This could be a surprise hit.

The main character is a little girl and she has a spirit-helper that takes different forms. There are some anti-religious overtones, children being kidnapped, all that. You guys would love it. Highly recommended.

HOLY ****ING CRAP!

Click to enlarge. Some of these are scans, some are screens, some are wallpapers.

Hey guys. This is will be much, much bigger than you think. Not just a spinoff.

Project Rygar

Whoa. Hopefully it comes with a VC version of the original (aka "the number one reason to one a NES controller with turbo").

Some artwork and off-screen shots.

Damnit... bullshots. (They're probably bullshots from the PS3/360 versions of the game, too).

Check out the ground textures on that first shot. And the Wolf models. That's not 360 levels. I'm not sayin those are legit (and I wouldn't have posted them if I didn't think they were), but I am saying those LOOK like Wii stuff.

The resolution says it all :)
They certainly on IGN, under the Wii section, for instance. But they are 1280x720. I'd say that they're simply just not bullshots (like we're all used to for the HD platforms) and they're running on an up-ported last gen engine on either the 360/PS3 like Harry Potter, for instance. I don't know that I'd be very surprised if the Wii version turns out looking like that at its lower resolution, though, because of the fact that Shiny is pretty technically competent on lesser hardware (see: Matrix: Path of Neo on the PS2).

Hello Harvest Moon!

Thanks for the update, PL--I love it when this thread thrives.

Where did this deluge of Wii games come from? HM, Guilty Gear, DQ Swords, Ghost Squad, Rygar, and NiGHTs are all on my radar.

Yeah, guys. First of all, it's the E3 time of year. You'll notice that we haven't really gotten any true BIG NAME titles announced, but rather, the smaller name titles and companies are putting out their stuff while they get a chance to be noticed. As E3 rolls around, the big guns should come blazin' with the whole media roll-out.

StevieP: well noted on the resolution. Still looks like the Wii could do that stuff, except maybe for the ice in the first shot.

Charlatanized: no kidding about the improvements in the Harvest Moon shots. Check out the grass and the tree leaves in the one, and then the nice distance blur on the first shot (which reminds me of Wind Waker).

Wow, Harvest Moon just got tons better very quickly. That snowy town looks great, as does the pond area (though I would like some reflections). Hopefully this turns out great, I love me some great Harvest Moon.

GG looks fantastic as always. Love that art style.

Ghost Squad looks terrible with blocky models, poor lighting and blurry textures. And those shadows. Ugh.

NiGHTS has a nice art style too it but needs to be backed up with much better textures rather than just bloom lighting.

Boogie looks okay in screens but really quite nice in motion.

Gundamn models look great, just need to work on environment and texture variety.

Golden Compass can go die.

Manhunt 2 looks like a PS2 port, but I don't care if the controls really do turn out to be as great as they could potentially be.

Golden Compass looks nice, hope to see a video around soon.

I'm hyped for MySims and Harvest Moon...can't wait! Thanks for the updates Panther.

You know, I bet a Goemon Wii would be sweet
Yes! Cell shaded!

Harvest Moon looks superawesomesweet! And I think MySims looks really fun, but I don't know yet. Didn't care for the Sims, and if this is geared towards kids, it's probably doomed. Doesn't sound like it is, though.

Wii was a good investment (at least lately it seems that way).
