Interesting Nintendo Enthusiast interview with BeautiFun Games on their upcoming Wii U eShop game Nihilumbra.

Do you think it would be possible to add a second player? Possibly in an asymmetric role?

It’s funny that you ask that. That’s exactly what we did! We added an asymmetric multiplayer where one of the players will control Born and the other one will be in charge of painting.

This mode will be an extra help, because it will allow you to split the controls with a friend to solve the hardest levels, but I can tell you something: it requires a lot of coordination! If the two players don’t work as a team … well, things can become chaotic. Let’s say that the players are supposed to work together, but we’ve seen that, sometimes, it’s extremely funny to use the colors to sabotage the other player.

The Wii U has had a hard time of late. Why did you decide to bring the game to Wii U?

For us, it was pretty obvious! It was the perfect console for Nihilumbra. We had the touching interface to paint with your fingers and buttons to control the main character; we could add all the improvements from the PC version and we could even add a multiplayer mode. It has the strong points of the other versions, but none of the weak ones. I think that the Wii U version is the best possible version of Nihilumbra right now!

The Void Mode also sounds interesting:

On the first run, you play focused on the story and, even if the puzzles are easy, it doesn’t matter because they give you new elements to interact with every few steps (enemies, assets and powers) to keep you entertained. Just like modern games do. That’s the part that everyone describes as “casual.” But then, when you finish the story, you unlock the Void Mode and we switch a different kind of game. You already know the mechanics, now you’ll have to master them. Then, the game becomes extremely challenging, just like old games were. There’s no story, no distractions, just pure puzzle design.

We are thrilled to announce that we have arranged development plans to bring Pixel Boy and the Ever Expanding Dungeon to the Nintendo Wii U platform. It’s super exciting to us at Giant Box Games that Pixel Boy even caught the eye of someone at Nintendo at some point to open the discussion and through our conversations we have come to a firm plan for Wii U development. We can’t give any kind of firm date yet but development has already begun and will bring with it unique features and awesome new content exclusive to the Wii U console in a way only the Nintendo system can offer.

Uh crap, I may have to break my rule of no kickstarter backing. Seriously that looks cool.

Just not holding my breath that we will see a wiiu version

I don't know if I'd back it. There isn't any actual proof that the list of people that are there can actually, you know, make a game. No one in this thing has ever made a game before and no one lists anything other than (and I'm paraphrasing here) "the creator of Space Enigma (which is a terrible company name) is personally interested in video games" and "This CG guy is talented and has a ton of experience. We won't represent this in a video, but just take our words for it".

Literally, this Kickstarter looks like a souped up version of Your World but with some random astronauts endorsing it.

I saw that blood of the werewolf was announced for a Q2 release on PSN & Xbox but no mention of the Wiiu release. I am on my phone making it hard to look but did anyone else see any info on this?

Some Wii U eShop game updates from a site we're not allowed to name here for some reason:

Armillo (FuzzyWuzzy Games)

“Still working mostly on polish, non-interactive sequences, final level work, and a few remaining features. Also getting a press demo prepared. We’re targeting a release on the eShop on March 24, 2014 *crosses fingers*”

Assault Android Cactus (Witch Beam)

“Our initial goal was to have the PC version finished in 2013 and the Wii U edition out shortly after that, but here we are in January and still working hard to finish the PC version. I’d say mid year is a safer bet now - we want to take the time to do things right with the Gamepad and Miiverse features.”

Blok Drop U (RCMADIAX)

“BLOK DROP U was submitted to NOA in January and is undergoing final testing.”

Cubemen 2 (3Sprockets)

“We are finally done, submitting next week! (Week beginning 27/01/14)

ittle Dew (Ludosity)

“Good news on the Wii U version, we’re submitting this week!” (Week beginning 20/01/14)
Joel Nystrom

Monkey Pirates (Henchmen Studio)

“We’re on our way, the game is finished and we extended the release to include North American territories. We’ve also completed a new Wii U exclusive game mode! It’s called sea king, and it uses the asymmetrical game play features of the Wii U Gamepad”

Pier Solar and the Great Architects HD

“We’re about to enter the beta test. The engine is practically finished, the major thing now is to finalize the HD assets.”

Watermelon Spokesperson

Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut (Toxic Games)

“We’re currently looking to launch in April time as things have gotten a bit delayed.”

Shovel Knight (Yacht Club Games)

Shovel Knight running on the Wii U was one of the major focuses of the project from the beginning, especially in getting it to work on the game pad with off-screen play. We’ve had that set up for a while now and it’s always cool to boot up the WiiU and see Shovel Knight diggin up dirt and bouncin on dudes running at a full 60 FPS on that little gamepad! It’s so good that I want everyone to see it! Sadly, we’ll have to wait until March 31st for that to happen. But that’s right around the corner; I can’t wait!!!

Nooooo... Holding out to buy this on Wii U, hopefully it'll be out sooner rather than later.

I wish we had an update on Scram Kitty, another one I'm really looking forward to.

So no one else noticed or cared that blood of the werewolf isn't coming? Or doesn't look to be coming? Stinks because i want to play these kinds of games on a console and with off tv support

Interviewing one of the devs of that game in a few weeks, and indeed the game is really good thus far.

Cool, maybe you can ask them what kind of input methods the Wii U version will feature. It seems like controlling the cursor with the wiimote-pointer, while controllng your character movement with the nunchuck analog stick would be a good fit. Anyway, looking forward to some more news.

I guess does it make sense to start recommending certain eShop titles? The list is growing fairly rapidly (especially if all those planned releases come out), but we have no good way to see how good they are.

What is this Lol?

Was looking around in the ESRB

Its published by Ubisoft
They had a PC facebook game similar

Don't get your hopes up for that game, the ESRB rating has been online since July '13.

We are planning to support that, should be sort of like mouse + joystick hybrid :D

GAF I have $10 banked in eShop credit that I want to spend on my Wii U after buying Nano Assault Neo earlier today.

Pitch me on what game I should get and why!

Toki Tori 2 because it's one of the best games of last year. It treats you like you're smart, doesn't use a single word of text, trusts you to actually "learn" from careful observation and is just absolutely delightful.

If you like puzzle try Toki Tori 2 .

Don't forget runner 2 it is the best for rythem adventure game.

Could someone with a Twitter account ask Slightly Mad to consider the option of using the balance board for analog brake and gas in Project CARS, since the WiiU controllers lack analog buttons? This idea was from another Gaffer in another topic a while ago, but i think it deserves to be contemplated.

How would you apply appropriate pressure to it in a sitting position. The fact that real pedals are angled at, what, 75° or something like that is because you need the distance to regulate the acceleration. The balance board sits flat on the ground. If you sit, you'd have to really force your body weight onto your leg in an uncomfortable way to make it register the way you want to. It's a terrible idea and especially for a racing sim. Digital triggers are a far easier pill to swallow than fumbling around with a balance board. I think it would be a complete waste of their time.

So Kyntt Underground looks cool, but all the reviews make it sound very mediocre. Makes me soooo torn about if I should get this game or not.

This has been discussed when the idea was first mentioned. The balance board would need to be placed at an angle. A two dollar worth piece of plastic could do the trick. Roll a towel under it, make a cheap 3D printed stand for it, tape some cardboard boxes into a triangle...

I'm also unsure how this would be a waste of time, when essentially, it's just mapping the brake/gas triggers to the left/right side of the balance board. I doubt they need a serious shift in resources to get this to work. More likely two guys fiddling around with it for a few days, if that. Make it user adjustable, just like Wiimote controls were for FPS controls.

I'm playing it at the moment and I really like it. I really like the exploration and the physics too as GulAtiCa does. I don't even generally like 2d platformers, but the platforming is really fun in this one in my opinion.

Some of the puzzles (platforming based) can seem kinda intimidating every now and then, but you'll learn through them.

I think part of the reason why reviewers haven't reviewed it very well is that the game usually doesn't tell you what to do at all. At times it can seem as if you needed a new skill to help you, but then later you figure out you can do it already. I appreciate the devs holding their vision about it, because really it's nothing you can't think yourself through.

Not that the game is perfect though, but I think it's pretty great if you like metroidvania style platforming.

A towel or something like that probably wouldn't work though, because the surface needs to be hard so that the balance board can work with the pressure properly.

Not even that. The Balance board has 4 zones. So even if you rest your heels on it, it would still be more than possible to apply pressure to it with great control. Besides, the Wii Balance Board is very sensitive.

Sure, the point is that it's not an insurmountable issue.

Maybe you could rest your heels on the floor, and your soles on the edge of the balance board, maybe that would be enough?

That sounds like Toki Tori 2 to me. And that's a great thing!

Thanks for the input everyone on Kyntt!

Trying out Unepic now, and I posted some screens in the Next Gen Screenshot thread!

Anyone here have any info on "the Pinball arcade", was supposed to be launched on a couple of occasions, still see WiiU logo on Farsight website, but publisher is mum on plans.
Supposedly it was submitted to Nintendo back in Summer 13.

Would work as well. The Balance Board is very sensitive, and can read the tiniest increments in pressure, so it should be fine either way.

Most recent info I can find:
Wii U : Submission For Approval : After a lengthy delay, the Wii U version is back on track and will be submitted to Nintendo in early 2014. Release timeframe TBD.

Some news on the Wii U version of The 90s Arcade Racer:
Wii U is proving very capable of running the game at 60fps at 720p with 4xMSAA and FXAA resulting in a crystal clear image.
