Wii U Games 2013

Have you guys mentioned The Unlikely Legend of Rusty Pup by the creator of Conker's Bad Fur Day yet? ;) It's coming in 2014 to Wii U and 3DS eShop!

It does sound fucking interesting:

The Unlikely Legend of Rusty Pup, a 2D platformer from former Rare developers at Gory Detail, is in development and headed to the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShops in 2014, developer Chris Seavor told Nintendo Life.

The game is "a very sad tale," Seavor said, with a "serious and adult story" and a a work-in-progress core mechanic.

"You physically move in and out of the screen," he said. "It's also got hints of Lemmings in there. The game has a core gameplay mechanic — and when I say mechanic I mean something you do which will effect something else in the game world — which we can't say because it will give so much away! The main reason I'm being secretive is because we don't know whether it works or not yet and until we've tried it properly, we won't know. It will change. You put a mechanic in and even the simplest mechanic will throw out a thousand different problems."

Joining Seavor on The Unlikely Legend of Rusty Pup is another ex-Rare employee, Shawn Pile, who worked as a senior software engineer until leaving the company last September after 16 years.

Ok, now I'm really curious...

Understood. But I'm not so sure if there should be a term called "Nintendo-ish", simply because before the time (beginning of last gen) everything turned into Unchared/CoD/God of War clones, there was actually a time where all the big consoles would get a lot of 2D/3D Platformers, Action Games, Action Adventures, JRGs, SRPGs, Fun Racers, SHMUPS and many mixes of those.

I'm don't think they are particularily "Nintendo-ish". I mean, it would be said if we needed to call everything ouside of FPS and 3rd Person Cinematic Experiences "Nintendo-ish".

Well... no need to pay any mind to that. I could just as well have said "the first party games, plus W101 and Sonic Lost World" for instance. That's basically what i meant (thinking what he meant).

You can say the same about the PS4/X1 line up too since most of those games will be on PS360. People tend to buy consoles for exclusives though.

I wasn't making a statement, i was just explaining what i thought an other poster meant, and that he didn't need to get worked up over it.

Ugh. $50? No thank you.

£30 Amazon UK... which still is 46 dollars and 35 euros.

I have to say, I am interested in the game, but It's really simple: If that port doesn't have pointer controls, then I'm not gonna get it.

At first I was willing to buckle and just get the game to support it. However, since it's coming to other systems, I don't need to do this, so if there are no pointer controls, I'm not gonna buy. I hope they consider this seriously. Perhaps some people really hate the remote, but options are good. I'm more than happy using the Wiipad as a screen/map device and a remote for moving around and such. Keep dual analog for those who want it so everyone is taken care of. I'm there day one if IR is in.

They've been quiet about it (even though I've posted on Facebook and their own site), but I'm pretty serious about this. I'll support games that support my playstyle. This goes for any FPS on the Wii U. No IR, no buy.

It's not an FPS, though. Why do you "insist" on pointer controls? It's a stealth RPG that you COULD play like an FPS but why?

Just got a update from Amazon. It says Deus Ex HR ships on September 9. Fucking ridiculous wait.

I have Prime and release day delivery selected. Estimated delivery is September 3rd for me. Still long to wait, and hopefully they knock the price down from $50 to $40 between now and then.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. I'm okay playing this type of game with dual analog. For anything competitive, twitch shooters, etc pointer controls are mandatory though. With CoD Ghosts for example, I'll be there day 1 if there are pointer controls; will not buy without it. I probably even would have bought crappy 007 Legends if they had supported pointer controls.

Because that's one of the main appeals of Deus Ex? Play it just like you want. Also I see no reason why stealth RPG wouldn't work completely well with pointer controls seeing that it's mostly played from 1st person.

Not saying it wouldn't work, I'm saying why insist on it as the only acceptable option as if it's unplayable with sticks?

Is it too much to ask to put some "extra effort" into a Wii U port? How much will the game be? 50? Why should I spend that money on something that does not support one of the best features about the Wii/WiiU = IR pointer aiming for FPS, which is also my prefered control method.

I'm not an expert, but how difficult is it to add pointer controls. I can't imagine it being that difficult.

Well, the "extra effort" was being put into the huge pile of GamePad features since the GamePad is what's special about the Wii U version. They're not making a Wii version where the IR controls would be the main hook. You really can't file this under laziness since they already did a ton of stuff for this version. And it's not like they're just adding a different controller layout. They never made a Wii FPS so they have no code to base pointer controls on. Making a hybrid layout that still uses the touch screen stuff but has you use the pointer would be really really clunky. Ultimately, you'd lose much much more than you'd gain by adding pointer controls. At that point, just play on PC.

I don't agree with that. With the Wii U, there are lots of people who enjoy playing with IR and that should be an option for FPS games. Not doing it could potentially cost them sales. Like myself. ;)

Lazy or not, I probably would've bought it with pointer controls, and I'm not buying it without them. Even if the game is just a stealth game without a lot of shooting, I find dual analog controls cumbersome.

I don't think I represent a large percentage of console players (as most have trained themselves to accept dual analog), but personally, I wish that more games supported IR aiming.

$49.99 can't be the right MSRP. Even the PS3/360 versions launched at $39.99 and currently retail for $29.99 or less on Amazon. Launching a year late at even $39.99 would be absurd. Activision, you so crazy.

This is how you know WiiU is next gen. Dat premium price :P

Well 50 bucks is the next-gen price :P Want it for 40 dollars? Buy it for Wii and play using Wii emulator on Wii U.

As a person who has to play on 360/PS3, you are going to love the Wii U. I have the pad near my chair so when I plop down after a long day, its nice to have it there. Yes it can use more games, but I really enjoy mine.

Hotline Miami could really work well on Wii U. Implement NSMBU-like Miiverse (show reactions from people that died on the same spot), add Wiimote pointer controls and Off-TV play would make me double dip.

Then they wonder why their games bomb hard...

I don't know if this should be here since it A) Isn't technically a Wii U game, and B) wasn't released in 2013 but I can't seem to just find a general discussion thread and it isn't really thread worthy but, holy crap, Super Mario Galaxy is stupendous!

I bought the Nintendo Selects of Super Mario Galaxy for $20 and I'm only halfway through the Bee galaxy currently but it's basically everything you could hope for in a Mario game. As much as I enjoyed 3D Land and NSMBU (Which I beat yesterday morning!), and as much as I'm looking forward to 3D World, I can understand why people were disappointed that 3D World doesn't appear yet to be as epic as Galaxy.

Not to write off 3D world at all, I'll still be there day 1 and think it looks awesome. It's just that Galaxy is immediately, objectionably something very special. From the moment you load it up it radiates magic and charm. Pardon my ignorance, but was 3D Land done by the same team? I don't mean to start no shit but Land almost seems "less" now.

Maybe I need to replay Land again, it's just I've found Galaxy so much more compelling and awe-inspiring. There have been people throwing the word "Organic" around lately when describing the differences between the Mario 3D series and the Galaxy games. How the Galaxy series seems like a real, though exceedingly odd, place that exists in a fanciful universe, whereas the Mario 3D games (Land, at least) just seem to be shapes floating in space.

That's been my experience so far. I enjoyed running around 3D Land's levels, but it didn't really grip me the way that Galaxy has. I'm hoping that as the picture on 3D World becomes clearer that we see something a bit more grandiose starting to take shape.

Sorry if I ramble, I've just spent quite a lot of time playing Mario while on vacation and loving it. I'll admit that going from something traditional like NSMBU to Galaxy was quite exhilirating.

Yes and it's like a mishmosh of a dumbed down Galaxy and oldschool Mario games.

I think the execution of 3D Land is outstanding and for a portable, the game is but it doesn't have the craziness of the Galaxy series.

Hopefully the new console one does in later levels.

A 'hybrid' pointer/touch screen system worked fine for COD: BOII. After pushing my way through Resident Evil Revelations, I never want to use analogue sticks for aiming ever again, the imprecision is just horrendous. There's no reason not to include IR in games like Deus Ex, and while I've played through the game on PC, it definitely wouldn't get a Wii U sale from me without IR even if it were a new experience. I'd sacrifice touch screen gimmicks for fluid, speedy aiming every time.

Summer Games Guide 2013
Summer is supposed to be a terrible season for video games, but that’s no longer the case. Some of the year’s biggest games are coming out during its hottest months -- including perhaps the biggest game of them all. Leave the sunscreen on the shelf and stay indoors with this deluge of upcoming summer video games. (Note: All games release between June 20 and September 20. You know, summer!)

Nice to see some WiiU games being mentioned like The Wonderful 101:

Still trying to find a good deal on Need for Speed Most Wanted U. Any suggestions? Did it sell enough for there to at least some online activity?

Also thinking I might tracked down a cheap used copy of AC3. Sold my copy after I did everything but sort of just want to roam the world. Maybe I should just wait for AC4.

I never really had to wait for a session on Most Wanted U... Haven't played it in about a month, though...

Also, whatever happened to HylianTom?

Annnnd Deus Ex lost another release date. Amazon sent me another notification. Sigh.

And Amazon is still inexplicably listing the PS360 versions at $30 with the Wii U version at $50. Again, batshit insane if that's the legit pricing strategy.

Has anybody bought Hori screen protectors for their Wii U's? Just wondering how hard they are to apply and get air bubbles out? From a couple of videos I've seen, air bubbles don't appear to be as big a issue with Hori ones.

Blockbuster has them used for 9.99. Ac3 that is

That giant DK button on the gamepad (MK8) is actually a car horn that makes a honk sound if you press it. It's pretty funny. Also, Bayonetta looked ten times as good on the gamepad as on the TV, although these pictures don't really show it. It was like the TV was a regular PS3 game, while the gamepad was next gen IQ.
