Wii U Games 2015

I don't get why we're assuming that Yoshi and Mario Maker are not Spring titles just because they didn't cover them today. They never cover "everything." Just pop that chill pill.

Yoshi being a Spring game for noA doens't mean it will be for NoE. Kirby isn't, we'll get it months later. Fossil fighter for 3DS is in the NoA PR and not in the NoE one too. If anything, being Yoshi in NoA PR and not in NoE one simply points out at another delay, after Toad and Kirby.
And Kirby is one of the best selling games in Italy, btw, so considering how we received Toad even one week after the other PAL countries (yes, LOL upon us) they could give us Kirby earlier.
Btw, up to now after their two "First part of '15 Directs", PAL Wii U lineup is lacking. That is a fact. I really hope they will regain momentum with Yoshi and Mario Maker, not delaying them to "better manage" their previously intended 2015 lineup

I find it kind of ironic, but lots of folks were saying the EU direct was the best one. I guess we're all just unhappy lol.

OK cool! I'm in the UK if that means anything.
I think it's a good program, even if the US one pales in comparison to some other regions. Takes very little effort to register, take surveys, earn free stuff, and at the end of the annual cycle, if the UK is the same as the US, you get a gift depending on your gold or platinum status.

typical post-hype-train-burnout. no matter how great a Direct is, people are always pissed about every little thing. and especially the things that weren't in there.

January - Nothing
February - Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (Wii U)
March - Yoshi's Woolly World (Wii U) / Code Name S.T.E.A.M. (3DS)
April - Mario Party 10 (Wii U) / TLoZ: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)
May - Splatoon (Wii U) / Xenoblade Chronicles (3DS)
June - Mario Maker (Wii U) / Fossil Fighters Frontier (3DS)
July - Nothing
August - Devil's Third (Wii U) / TBA (3DS)
September - Xenoblade Chronicles X
October - Star Fox (Wii U) / Yōkai Watch (3DS)
November - The Legend of Zelda (Wii U) / Pokémon (3DS)
December - Surprise E3 game (Wii U)
Based off yesterday's Direct, here's my new predictions.

January - Nothing
February - Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (Wii U) / TLoZ: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)
March - Mario Party 10 (Wii U) / Code Name S.T.E.A.M. (3DS) / Fossil Fighters: Frontier (3DS)
April - Mario Maker (Wii U; digital version) / Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (3DS)
May - Splatoon (Wii U) / Puzzles & Dragons Z + Puzzles & Dragons: SMB Edition (3DS)
June - Yoshi's Woolly World (Wii U) / Yōkai Watch (3DS)
July - Nothing
August - Devil's Third (Wii U) / TBA (3DS)
September - Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii U)
October - Star Fox (Wii U) / Fire Emblem (3DS)
November - The Legend of Zelda (Wii U) / Pokémon (3DS)
December - TBA (Wii U) / Mario Maker (Wii U; retail version) / TBA (3DS)

I've shuffled things around a bit, but my predictions are mostly the same.

-Majora's Mask, Mario Party, Fossil Fighters, and Xenoblade are coming out a bit earlier than I originally predicted

-I expected Woolly World to come out in March, but that's clearly not happening. June now makes the most sense to me, because they didn't re-introduce Kirby until 3 months prior to release, so I'm expecting the same thing to happen to Woolly World in a March Direct.

-I think Mario Maker gets the same treatment NES Remix 2 did last year. Digital release in April, retail release in December. The retail release will probably come with like the 100 best user created levels or some shit like that.

-Last year, Tomodachi Life was announced in a Direct in April and released 2 months later in June. I think Nintendo will try to repeat that strategy with Yōkai Watch. It'll probably come out the weekend before E3 just like Tomodachi Life last year and Animal Crossing the year before.

-My H2 predictions are a little bit more shaky, but I'm pretty confident that Devil's Third, Xenoblade X, Star Fox, and Zelda make it out in 2015, and I absolutely expect Zelda to come out the week before Black Friday. Also, Animal Crossing is totally going to hit Japan this year, then early 2016 for the west.

The Captain Toad situation was always overblown anyway. It was no different than EU getting Fantasy Life a month earlier than NA. It just so happened that it had Christmas in between the releases which appears as some gigantic magical barrier to everyone (sure it sucked but come on).

I see absolutely no reason to panic about dead months far into the future. We all know how Nintendo works. Stuff doesn't get talked about until shortly before release. I mean, look, MH4U and Majora's Mask were "Early 2015" and "Spring" games up until two days ago. Now we know they're out in less than a month. Them not talking about every single release for the next six months right now means absolutely zip. NOE didn't even cover the HW DLC in the Direct and that comes out a week earlier than in NA even!

Everyone just needs to relax about these things.

Your WiiU scheduled is exactly how I think it will be

Except there are way too many releases set for December in that speculative list.

i'm just bitter about the lack of kirby. i need that pink puff ball.
of course there could be a press release on monday announcing the feb release of yoshi but i'm so sick of ninty's secrecy, sometimes it feels like they hold releases hostage just because

It allows them to make changes and shift things around without having headlines everywhere "game X was delayed a week/month!"

Man I feel like any hd Kirby *not* done in that glorious claymation style from now on will be a missed oppertunity! Unless they went back to dreamland 3's watercolors!

Wii U- wise I'd be fine with that, as long as we continue to get the random rare Wii game downloads, and the surprise games are important.

There's a few games here for me. Already got Captain Toad and will definitely pick up Mario Maker, Yoshi & Zelda and maybe StarFox. Really looking forward to Project Cars too but I have a PS4 and it's the console version that they seem to like to show off to people and I don't see the Wii U version comparing well with it.

There's also a very slight chance that I'll get Kirby but everything that Nintendo have shown of it makes it look pretty bland gameplay wise so they've got a lot of work to do to sell it to me.

I think it's a good program, even if the US one pales in comparison to some other regions. Takes very little effort to register, take surveys, earn free stuff, and at the end of the annual cycle, if the UK is the same as the US, you get a gift depending on your gold or platinum status.

The yearly gift is a cool idea, didn't know about that one. Does this annual cycle work calendar year to year, so I'll have just missed out? Where can you see your account status?

I did the Wii U survey last night in order to officially register it, along with registering around 12-14 games. I think I'll wait until I have another game to register and then I'll have enough stars for a tshirt. They're going for £30 on ebay which doesn't seem too shabby.

I am almost certain that Mario Maker will start off with a full retail release. Mario Maker's concept gives one the possibility of playing an infinitely number of Mario courses from all timeframes of Mario, and, from the amount of effort it seems they are putting in it, I am certain that think that this can be very big, especially since it's Mario. Early digital release would just kill a lot of the anticipation for it honestly. I think June makes the most sense for this, along with Splatoon in May, since these are two huge releases that can give the Wii U strong momentum.

A bit off topic, but Captain Toad sold 250K copies in the US in December. Yeh, it had the 3rd best launch of a Wii U title this year, which is pretty awesome lol.

Is is worth mentioning that the NPD PR release mentions Yoshi's Wooly World as one of the games that will continue the momentum into 2015....

So, slightly off topic, but do you think that the goal of 3.6 million WiiU will be achieved for this fiscal year?

My predictions:

February: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
March: Mario Party 10, Mario vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars
April: Yoshi's Wooly World (might be here or July)
May: Splatoon
June: Mario Maker
July: Yoshi's Wooly World (might be here or April)
August: Devil's Third
September: Xenoblade Chronicles X
October: Starfox Wii U
November: The Legend of Zelda Wii U

There might also be some other (probably smaller) new games announced during E3 that might come this year, like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was announced last year.

For 2016, I think the games that we can expect to come out so far are:

- Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
- Pokken Tournament
- Animal Crossing (they said that there will be AC news this year)
- Metroid (it was all but confirmed last year)
- Project Treasure
- Maybe another collaboration with Tecmo Koei (maybe Mario or Fire Emblem) Hyrule Warriors did really well, so I think this is a possibility. If not this, then some other collaboration- Nintendo have been hinting at many future projects with other companies.
- Maybe a Punch-Out (there have been too many hints, so I am optimistic)
- New IPs (I remember Iwata or someone else saying that the new developer's area they have created has a lot of new ideas coming up; that is where they apparently got Splatoon from).

Yes, Hitoshi Yamagami has been hinting a new collaboration between Nintendo SPD and Platinum (at around 6:30-6:50 in the clip). And since this was made in the context of Bayonetta 2, it seems like it's a Wii U game.

I liked the PAL Direct. A lot: I liked almost everything I saw and I'm planning to buy a lot of things. I've just receive my Ambassador New 3DS right now, and I'll play the hell out of MH4U and Zelda, while completing Toad.
Fact is: Wii U pal schedule is disappointing, with delays and desappeared games.

Bayonetta Party. Like Mario Party, but way more raunchy.

There's no real schedule, though. Just what we know and what we don't know.

I just wish i knew the release date of Kirby for us EU plebs. I really don't know why we always are treated like shit.
Great thread btw, and an awesome list of games.

I keep seeing Zelda talked about as the last hurrah for the WiiU.

Do we really think Nintendo will basically be done with the system after that?

I'm happy with it for just Smash and MK alone, but I will be a bit disappointed if more isn't to come, but I suppose maybe that's on me for jumping in this past Christmas.

:(

Since the last planned Wii U launch title (Wii Fit U) was finally released just about one year ago, it's not likely that Zelda will not be the last. 4 of the 6 planned Wii U launch titles got severely delayed (Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3, Game & Wario, Wonderful 101), and indications from Miyamoto and the autumn investor meeting seem to indicate that they'll try new approaches to compensate for the lack of interest from 3rd parties.

Also, Metroid U and Animal Crossing U have both been hinted, but I suppose we have to wait for E3.

In the meantime, make sure to try at least these existing great Wii U titles (in addition to MK8 and SSB U):
* Pikmin 3
* Super Mario 3D World
* Tropical Freeze
* Lego City: Undercover
* Bayonetta 2
* Hyrule Warriors
* Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
* Wonderful 101
* Shovel Knight
* Stealth Inc. 2

All around I'm still pretty pleased with the amount of Wii U games coming this year, and expect more 3DS stuff to be announced at E3. I'm shocked that we still haven't seen a proper reveal of Star Fox when it's (apparently) still planned as a later summer title.

Definitely sad to see Yoshi apparently slip until a bit later in the year, as I don't really have an interest in Kirby's new game, or Mario Party 10, leaving my Wii U pretty barren until Splatoon comes out really, but Bloodborne comes out in March so I won't be bored or anything, and its about time I dusted off my PS4.

In the meantime, make sure to try at least these existing great Wii U titles (in addition to MK8 and SSB U):

* Pikmin 3 (In my WiiU waiting for this weekend to dive in)
* Super Mario 3D World (played a lot of this before I ever got a WiiU)
* Tropical Freeze (is this one worth it even if I was lukewarm on the 3DS version?)
* Lego City: Undercover (definitely on my list)
* Bayonetta 2 (eh, these types of games have never been for me, Ninja Gaiden, DMC, etc just never clicked)
* Hyrule Warriors (same as above)
* Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (will try eventually)
* Wonderful 101 (own and will play!)
* Shovel Knight (already playing on 3DS)
* Stealth Inc. 2 (know nothing about this)

* Bayonetta 2 (eh, these types of games have never been for me, Ninja Gaiden, DMC, etc just never clicked)
* Wonderful 101 (own and will play!)

You know Wonderful 101 is the same type of game. Well it could get you back on board of action games.

* Tropical Freeze (is this one worth it even if I was lukewarm on the 3DS version?)
I sort of hated the Wii version, even though I could see it was obviously a high quality game, and yet I LOVE Tropical Freeze. There's the removing of annoying and unnecessary motion controls and the stupid blowing mechanic Miyamoto had shoehorned into the game, and the fact you can restart much faster in time attack mode, but overall the game is just much better, for reasons I can't really determine yet.

So in short: you can dislike strongly DKCR and yet love DKCTF.

There's no real schedule, though. Just what we know and what we don't know.

We know that PAL territories got Toad in January, unlinke US (one month delay, right?), we know that PAL territories we'll get Kirby in the second half of 2015 (so from 5 up to 10 month delay)

Thse are two delayed games. About the other two games: they were supposed to be first half, so or they will come out in Aprile and/or June, or they will be other two games delayed in Europe on Wii U.

If you think that they will launch Yoshi and Mario Maker with such a short time between their Direct presentation and their coming on the market, good for you. Me, I'm personally doubtful about Mario Maker and Yoshi being released in April and June.

Of course, I hope to be proven wrong on this.

I can see Zelda being the swan song of the WIi U just if they push it back until Holiday '16.
Otherwise, no way.

I still think that Pokken could come in '16, after the arcade release;
I still think that an Animal Crossing app/game will come in '16, recycling AC Plaza assets and sharing AC Leaf data/save
I still think that Fatal Frame can come to the West in '16 considering the movie release
I still think that Project Treasure from Namco could be a '16 game considering how they coudn't unveil anything about it right now
I still think that another Mario game will hit the Wii U (could still be a Sunshine HD remaster, but we'll see)
I still hope that SMT x FE exists, and it will be a '16 game at this point, if ever...
I still hope (not think, onfortunately) that a Metroid game MUST happen on Wii U

Very, very, VERY unlikely, my friend.

Games that we can be reasonably sure will release on the console after Zelda are:

SMT X Fire Emblem
Project Treasure
Pokken Tournament

After this, titles that have been heavily hinted at are:
Animal Crossing Wii U
Metroid Wii U
Thanks to @jariv's link, a Platinum collaboration is definitely possible, as well as one with Tecmo.

* Tropical Freeze (is this one worth it even if I was lukewarm on the 3DS version?)

Once the controls click, it's one of the best 2D platformers ever. Test to do speed runs on one of the first levels in the game to get the feeling for the controls just right. Fantastic sound track as well.

* Stealth Inc. 2 (know nothing about this)

It's an excellent indie game from Curve Digital. Filled with Wii U features, and the co-op mode is particularly impressive (requires a Pro Controller for the main character, since the co-op player is on the Gamepad). Fantastic level design. It was released about the same time as Bayonetta 2. IMO, the IGN review is the most thourough review in terms of coverage of most aspects of the game (make sure to view the videos available in the review):

Btw, does a thread like this exist for 3DS?

I think one should, as there are tons of amazing things that are coming:

Confirmed for localization:
Majora's Mask
Monster Hunter 4
Codename STEAM
Fire Emblem
Puzzles and Dragons Z
Puzzles and Dragons: Super Mario Bros Edition
Youkai Watch
Etrian Odyssey Untold 2
Etrian Mystery Dungeon
SMT Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker
Hatsuna Miku: Project Mirai Remix
Attack on Titan: Last Wings of Mankind
Xenoblade Chronicles
Fossil Fighters: Frontiers
Treasurenaughts
Gunman Clive 2
Ace Combat: Horizon Legacy +
Story of Seasons
Citizens of Earth
Mario vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars

Probably coming:
Rhythm Heaven (last few came)
Etrian Odyssey V (Atlas always localises Etrian)
Bravely Second (SE were impressed by BD's performance)
Final Fantasy Explorers (it's FF)
Pikachu Detective game

Is it?

I bought wonderful 101 blindly on GAF recommendation. I know nothing about it.

Yes absolutely. There are specificities like the camera, the drawing system and the several characters to control, but I played Bayonetta recently and there are a lot of similarities.
It's an action game, mainly beat'em all with some QTE and shoot parts. you can collect money and some items you can mix to create useful ones. You buy techniques in a store. And it's a bit crazy.

I'm not trying to dismiss the game though. Wonderful 101 is my 2013 GOTY and I can't recomend it enough, it's a lot of fun but you have to pass the first level to really get the gameplay and make stylish battles.

Well I bought it so I definitely will be giving it a shot.

If I like it I'll give Bayonetta a shot then. :)

Petrie - I bought it as well on GAF recommendation and faith in platinum. I've not had time to properly get into it yet, but I saw someone on here recommend the wonderful 101 system breakdown videos by Saur on youtube at some point. They're really informative.

Also, get bayonetta for sure :) i loved the first one so much that bayo 2 was a major factor in me getting the wii u.

no, there is not. it would be good to have it, btw
I just think that the reccomendation list would be too big ;p

Is it worth going back and playing the first xenoblade on wii?

Yes, absolutely.
It's one of the best if not the best JRPG of last generation.
Great vistas, superb voice acting and an engaging combat system.
Depending on where you live it could be hard to get though.

I got it last week from CEX's website for about £45 I think, there were other copies left too.

If you're on wii u, people are speculating it will appear eventually in this £8.99 weekly deal thing they're doing on the eshop currently.
