Wii U Satisfaction Thread

Just picked up a Wii U 32GB, pro controller, NSMB, Zombie, COD Black Ops, Nintendo Land, and controller case for $300 on a B/S/T deal. It's for my kids b-day present this month. The wife is not going to be thrilled to see yet another electronic device in the house but it was the top thing on their list.

I'll be looking to get Lego City U and a bunch of eShop games once I get it setup.

Just got one for myself and have been a blast. Nintendoland is amazing, just a shame there are so few levels for each game.

But so far it has been totally worth the money asked. Love that gamepad

The three adventure games have more levels than what it's showing ;p
The VS games are lacking though. 2 maps for animal crossing is stupid.

The only reason I actually power my Wii U on at the moment at all is the Rayman Challenges App. It's the best game on the Wii U right now (I own Monster Hunter for the 3DS or that would be my top game on Wii U). Playing a new challenge everyday is a blast! Why did Nintendo not think of this for Mario? Seems a little silly that the best platformer for the Wii U at the moment is a free game from Ubisoft. I know a lot of people love Super Mario U but I just didn't like it. 2D Mario needs a complete overhaul after playing Rayman.

There are a lot of challenges on nsmbu, and they're way betterly crafted. rayman's challenges are probably randomly generated. Rayman's are faster and have leaderboards though.

Bought a 32GB Deluxe last week at Target (full price - you're welcome, Iwata!)...so far I feel like it's a Sony machine. Impressive hardware, lackluster software. NSMBU is, of course, great...everything else (ZombiU - meh, Lego City Undercover - disappointing, Nintendoland - need to get some friends over) has been so-so. I'm especially disappointed with the eShop. They need to get more there and get some sales going. Otherwise, I'm retail only so I can dump games that I don't enjoy (ZombiU and Lego so far).

I'll be really surprised if Nintendo can pull a 3DS with the Wii U...especially with PS4/Nextbox around the corner. But I will be happy with Virtual Console (Earthbound!!!) and Nintendo games. I'm thinking by next year the Wii U will be the Dreamcast. Loved by many, but it just didn't have the oomph to make it. I'd love to see Nintendo go third-party at that point.

I felt the same way after playing DKC:R. It really shows how stale and uninspired the series has become. It's a shame, really.

Didn't know where to ask. Is there a way of knowing what the console updates or does in the amber state after shutting it down?
It finished a download it had started before you shut down.
(The Wii U now automatically downloads updates for your games, that way you don't have to wait for it when you're ready to play.)

Whew! I picked up the last 32 GB Zombi U Special Edition Wii U Set in my city. I havent unboxed it yet. Probably by Monday I will open it and take my time to enjoy the moment. :)

Tried the Monster Hunter demo the other night. First time I've ever touched the series. Probably a personal perspective thing, but is every weapon meant to be unappealing relative to the Sword & Shield, or should I just buy the game and run with a Sword & Shield, having found my personal favorite on the first go?

I like how quick it is. Couldn't get into the slower weapons, but then I've always prioritized movement over power in games.

The nice thing about Monster Hunter is that it DOES have so many weapon styles to choose from - there's almost always something to suit your play style. For most traditional action gamers, the Sword and Shield is a great place to start... it feels the most familiar, and the wind-down after each attack is very short so you can play more "reactively" until you get a feel for how some of the game's bigger baddies behave. I still always keep a good sword and shield ready because it's a good "go-to" weapon to use when you don't know what the game's going to throw at you.

For me, if I know what I'm hunting ahead of time, I tend to lean towards the great swords and the hammers - some of the nicer hammers have bonus effects on them which make them really useful. If you know how the monster you're hunting behaves, you can get used to lining up those charged-up great sword swings and landing them pretty reliably... it's a slow and tactical game when you use the big blades, but it's so satisfying to deliver the damage! Another guy I know uses bowguns exclusively when playing multiplayer, but can't use them at all solo because he relies on the other players holding aggro... but when they do it's devastatingly effective!

I'd suggest deviating from your bread and butter now and then. It takes a lot of practice to adapt to the quirks of some of the slower weapons, but the reward is worth it, and for some monsters you'll find that a strong, slow weapon is better than a weak, fast one.

This is a completely unrelated note (I don't know where else to post it and would welcome advice), but does anyone perchance have the iron man suiting-up "my body is ready" gif available? Not the one with Reggie's face, but the original. I believe it was once posted in some pre-E3 Nintendo thread, but I cannot find it anywhere.

So since this is a Wii U satisfaction thread, I'm wondering how people feel about their early purchase and what they are looking forward to. I certainly enjoyed Mario U, Zombi U, Nintendoland quite a lot and some downloadeble games too but I havent really used the Wii U for gaming lately. I don't mind, actually, because the 3DS has been filling that gap. I am considering sticking to 3DS WiiU for the upcoming years.

I don't have much time to game these last few years and owning multiple consoles just seems like a waste of money when so many potentially great games are going to be relased in the next12 months on 3DS and WiiU.

For Wii U I am looking forward too:

Watch Dogs
Splinter Cell
Deus Ex
Pikmin 3
Game and Wario
W101
Bayonetta 2
X
Mario
Wind Waker HD
Fire Emblem (Off TV play!!!)

Combine that with a great list of upcoming 3DS games and I think it will fill my gaming needs perfectly. Ill buy PS4 when the next FF, Metal Gear, Dishonored or Fallout release.

You do realize you bought the wrong version of MH right? What on earth would make you prefer no online/single analog/400x200 poo res?

The only way I can connect to the net at home is tethered to my iphone. I can easily do the Rayman challenges app but Monster Hunter probably wouldn't do too well. If I had better internet, I would have picked up the Wii U version. It's a great game! Probably the best game for the Wii U at the moment other than SMW and the Rayman challenges app.

I actually think the 3DS version of Monster Hunter looks nice... maybe I'm crazy or something, but it looks better than the PSP ones, runs nice and smooth most of the time, and looks better than Tri did on the Wii from what my memory tells me. I plan to own both, but money's tight right now, so I went with the cheaper option that I can play at work first.

You're fine. It does run smoother and it looks nice even on a lower resolution and this is from somebody who plays and prefers the Wii U version. The game on 3ds in motion looks nothing like the screens on a 1080p monitor.

Id' say pick up MH3U regardless. I'm approx 120 hours into it just going solo with no desire to go online yet. Got the 3DS version so my addiction can continue outside the house.

Today is my wife's birthday and I got her Lego City Undercover, which she had wanted for awhile. When she signed onto the system the music was different, confetti rained down and the other created Miis were cheering for her. It took us a minute to realize it was because today was her birthday. Nintendo is so good at doing cool little touches like that.

eShop version of Tank Tank Tank is out in the US:

The eShop notes that My Kong mode is currently on sale for 80 percent off its regular price. That promotion ends May 15.

Do you think nintendo will release a, i dont know, some kind of antenna so you can take your gamepad far away from the system without losing connection?

Digital distribution is the future. Discs are relics of the ancient past.

I second this. I only have Nintendo Land and Black Ops 2 as discs. Yesterday I finished the very good campaign of Black OPs 2 and had some MP, wow the disc sound is awful, I think it is over emphasizes because the Wii U is so quite.

Attempted to access Miiverse while playing Kung Fu Rabbit and downloading Tank! Tank! Tank! and was greeted with this:

My Wii U has never ever been connected to my 3DS.

I'mgetting a Wii U this weekend. I have a few questions.

When I transfer data over from my Wii, does it transfer my saves? If not, how do I do that?

Does my WiiU get formatted when I transfer? If I buy some digital games this weekend on it, and THEN transfer my wii over next week, does it mess anything up?

Is there a Zombie U demo?

go to images.google.com and search for "neogaf (your best idea of what the image is called) gif"

1. Everything transfers over. VC Games, Save Data, WiiWare etc. Nothing left on the Wii

2. Why would your Wii U get formatted when you transfer all your stuff? If anything, it formats your SD Card and adds the transfer software and some sort of online pass that will allow you to repurchase (only if you want to) all your Wii VC games for a discounted price for Miiverse and gamepad features.

3. Yes, there is.
