Wii U Satisfaction Thread

I tried restarting ZombiU for probably the 10th time but "failed" miserably again.

For some reason my brain can't accept the fact that after the first character dies, story/game continues with the next one.

I promised myself that even if when I die, I'll not quit but instead continue with the next character. It didn't work, again.

That's...very strange of you. I mean, you're aware that you can easily get back your stuff if you kill your previous now-zombified character? And you can store items in the box in the safehouse for your future survivors to use? Or is it nothing to do with that?

About HDDs. I had one of the one terabyte drives recommended by Nintendo and it worked flawlessly, but I realized I didn't use it, like, at all. After deleting the ZombiU demo, everything else I've ever downloaded (all the $0.30 VC games, StreetU, Panorama view demo + London vid) and all my saves still fit on my tiny Basic Wii U drive. I picked up a Y cable and am trying my luck with an old 350gb portable Logitec drive I have. I hope it works, since that would be perfect for me. Btw, I have a Japanese Wii U and that eShop is barren. If they had some of the great indie games NA, for example, gets you can be sure I'd be filling up my hard drive.

How are other people's luck with Y cables? Anyone have a Logitec drive?

So my Wii U Basic finally arrived from Amazon except... It's missing the gamepad...

I guess some Amazon worker must have snatched it to bring back for his Wii console at home :lol
Ah shit, that totally sucks. Let us know what happens.

What?! I bought my basic at Amazon too, third party seller for ~$280, and it everything was perfectly fine.

I had very bad luck with hard drives and Y-cables, until I gave up and got a Nintendo recommended WD drive, and it has worked perfectly.

I first bought a 120 GB SSD driver, thinking it would be perfect for Wii U. But no, USB connection problems, with and without Y-cable. Okay, no problem, SSD drive is always handy, I have other uses for it. Then I bought a cheap Buffalo drive, and it worked a bit better, but then I started having connection problems again.

I even tried connecting the other USB connector of an Y-cable to a cell phone charger, but no luck, the HD just kept turning on and off again.

Hnnngggg I want this...

Man, I wish I had gotten the deluxe version now. This isn't going to work with the white pad.

Yeah I know you can kill the zombi-fied character and get your stuff back but still, I keep restarting the damn thing - hoping that I'll finish the game with a single character I guess.(something that will probably never happen)

Probably not considering there's an entire mode built around what you're trying to accomplish.

Could you hook it up to an external power source if you wanted to? That's my backup plan, but I'd have to buy an AC adapter for that.

My thoughts too.

Is it possible to sign player 2 in as their own user account? I've been playing local multiplayer in Injustice, and it'd be cool if we could both earn XP and such as we go.

On the topic of Y Cables, I had to switch to a dedicated power aource hard drive after giving Nintendo a call. I thought my Wii U was broke because when selecting a download game to play, my Wii u would freeze for 30 seconds before starting the game. Turns out the y cable was sucking power from the Wii u and making the booting process run really slow. I switched to a desktop harddrive with an ac power source and my Wii u runs flawlessly.

Interesting. I wonder if that's because that specific drive is using more current than the USB power spec allows or the Wii U isn't quite able to handle the spec without faltering.

Yeah wanted to go through the "normal" mode first and then try Survival.

Didn't know I'll end-up so "obsessed" with saving the starting character for as long as possible.

Anyways, I'm sure a replay is coming up soon so I could give Survival a shot I guess.

Holy crap this initial update is taking forever. It's been going for 20 minutes and the bar is maybe a tenth filled. I get insane fast speeds off psn but this is ridiculous.

the day 1 update is gigantic :lol

still, it shouldn't be taking that long. About an hour or so to download is normal, I think.

I have tried 3 different y-cables HDDs and all worked flawlessly.
Right now I have a 250GB platinum HDD in use and it works great.
it looks rather nice too
pic too big

Hey guys, I'm sorry for going OT here, but I just wanted to say that I've started playing Super Mario Galaxy, and GODDAMN IT. That fucking game is amazing. I was playing while my 10 year old niece was watching. We both laughed and screamed with glee on the surfing level. I'm ashamed that I hadn't played it until now.

Why wii chat never work with me and always show error even when I follow Nintendo website solution?

Also injustice always disconnect and end the match when I find any player online...!

Super Mario Galaxy praise is always on-topic! Glad you're enjoying it! :)

I have a feeling that a lot of problems are somehow related with the external HDD. I have a self powered one and I had just a few lock ups since November and the system is quite fast.

Edit: and/or the connection to the Nintendo servers.

I got a hardlock starting up the shop to get Metroid :|

I've got a PS3 with a busted BR drive that freezes less than this thing, un-fucking-real!

Heh, me too. I took it as a sign and didn't bother buying it. Will probably get it over the weekend or something.

I don't know, I couldn't get into the store!

I assume so, the last one (Kirby) expired 15/05 didn't it?

In the SM Wii U VC OT, and the Nintendo DL May threads everybody complained about EU getting it a day later. Should be around after work today, I guess

I use an external HDD, never had a lock-up, although one time I did get an error message about not being to read from the HDD after playing MH for like a billion hours straight.

Netflix has gone to an unrecoverable black screen a few times, but from doing a bit of research that appears to be a Netflix app issue on a variety of systems.

I also suspect that there are a few things that can spin forever (or maybe just a really long time) for certain kinds of network issues. There are probably on a per-app basis, basically just programming oversights like having a network timeout set super long without any way to cancel out.

I'd feel more satisfied with the Wii U if it wasn't so mind bogglingly, ridiculously slow. It took me 3 hours to update the firmware to get into the store to download the RE Revelations demo, and after that it took forever just to get into the store, and once I was in the store I had to watch the screen load at a crawl. Absolutely ridiculous.

I just got a Western Digital My Passport 2TB Portable and hooked it up to my Wii U. It took forever to recognize it so I gave up and hit cancel. Doing a google search, it seems that people need to use a Y cable for a USB powered drive.

Was this also true for the original Wii?

On my original Wii, I used Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 1 TB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive with no issues, no Y cable.

Is the difference that USB 3.0 requires more power than USB 2.0?

I guess I'll do some experimentation and try the new drive on the Wii although I seem to recall people having issues with USB 3.0.

I do have a self powered desktop drive but I was hoping to avoid using it since I didn't want to manually turn the drive on/off.

I placed an order for a Y cable yesterday so it'll take a couple of weeks for it to come in (from eforcity via Hong Kong).

I dont know why, but i saw external hard drives without a dedicated power source and with regular cable working on wii - while others sharing the same configuration just didnt work.

I really hate this "dedicated power source" or Y cable situation. Ive already ran out of power outlets and i hate the idea of using two USB ports on my wiiU

(im waiting for the WIIU ANTENNA, a product that exists only in my head, which will double or even triple the gamepad connection radius - needs a free usb port)

Ah, I see. I'm still not up on what day the eShop updates. I definitely want to grab Metroid whilst it's 30p. Hell, I'll grab anything they put out at 30p.

You 'n' me both, chap. I think I must have thick brick walls because my range is awful.

My above post clears up the y cable vs ac powered harddrives. I had this problem and called Nintendo support and they explained it to me. A y cable powered drive makes the system lag a bit when loading off of it. If you can live with the slow load times then you are fine. However, to take advantage of the full Wii u speed update that just hit, you need a harddrive with an external power source. I bought one recommended by Nintendo with its own power and my Wii u loads games off the drive very quickly.

Interesting. I bought one of the recommended drives but ended up switch it for a smaller old portable I had with a Y cable. I'll see if it's any slower.

Metal inside walls and stuff like that apparently block the signal an awful lot. Are you in England or something? I've read a lot of complaints from that area. Depends of the materials used.

I can stream everywhere in my 50 square meters (is that how you say in english speaking countries? ) apartment, which granted is not a big one, but still.

Anyway I got my first Wii U hard lock. Yay ! I was starting to get worried.
