Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

it's not "3-4x over Xbox performance"

it's 3-4x better performance than before, now on par with Xbox and in same cases even better.

which kind of leads to a CPU that might be simliar but more modern.

If the Wii U is using a DSP for audio, then optimization of the audio pipeline should mean that it's using the DSP heavily, which'd mean that this news doesn't say much at all about the performance of the cpu.

I like where this thread is going today! Enough is enough! Anyone who has details spill 'em and let's see where we stand. Nintendo's secrecy has tortured us for far too long already, and with E3 drawing ever near, some bona fide news is bound to hit. Then, once the dust settles I can go back to playing Xenoblade with peace of mind. :D

You really want people to be that dumb and break a nda? Which will risk their job?

It means WiiU gets the sound performance of 360 without taking the hit to the CPU.

Which is huge news.

It's specifically talking about the software pipeline. The hardware pipeline would be faster, but not as multiplatform friendly.

That was my point. Wii U stuff isn't supposed to be in freely available documents.

But even for UDK, you can login to the website for let's say, a project using the free Unreal Engine, and you won't see anything in regard to Wii U.

But someone shown me the UDK website, while logged with an account licensed for Wii U development, and then you have a dedicated page appearing. It's beautiful.

No, nothing like that. I wouldn't ask actual devs to risk their jobs. I'm talking secondhand sources and the like, where devs have already broken the NDA and remain anonymous, or instances like wsippel's, where the info is publicly available with the proper sleuthing.

What's with the WarioWorld reference though?

How could developers see WarioWorld for an example? Is Nintendo using WarioWorld for example of new features and capabilities in the SDK?

Wait. Did I miss something?

Is the X360 doing anything special with the sound? (that any console released after that wouldn't be able to do)

360's sound uses the CPU so with Wii U its CPU is freer to be used for other necessary things.

I already made that offer a while back, swearing on my dog's honor that I would not divulge info until E3. It was meant to be a safe means of sources verifying themselves through a trustworthy person.

Thus far, I have a few takers, and I'm sitting on the info until E3. :)

Nothing groundbreaking, but here's how it's working:

You're a Nintendo licensed Wii U developer:

You log to warioworld.com, the official website for developers working on Nintendo systems.

And then, amongst other things, you're able to keep track of all the recent changes on Wii U dev kits & SDK. It's a consolidated & up-to-date way for developers all other the world to see what's new about the system. And it's just one of the function of this website.

You truly are a wolf in sheep's clothing! And here's me thinking you were one of us paupers!

Microsoft owns Direct X right? So no one else can use it right? Then again, Sony Pictures has no issue with their movies turning into games for all platforms.

I get it. It's pretty standard across different industries for development. I'm a BPM developer and I need a company email that has a developer license with companies to access their developer portals for support documents and news.

Its nothing to do with WiiU's CPU, the sound code is running on a dedicated sound chip in WiiU. On 360 it'll be running on one of its CPU cores.

EDIT: Or perhaps I'm wrong in the case mentioned in that document. I certainly hope they have a hardware pipeline in that engine, otherwise its a pretty poor "optimisation" for WiiU.

One thing I don't understand though is the lack of leaks. It really is amazing.

As we move forward, development is starting to be off shored more to places like India where you have development teams in the 100s.

You'd think one of these developers would leak, someone like a fresher straight out of college...

The economy is a lot different then it was 6 years ago. People do NOT want to lose their jobs, so they keep their mouths shut.

Btw Ideaman, I know I've been skeptical of your info, but that last tidbit about the DRC/TV displays dynamically adjusting detail using the camera to detect the player's point of focus was highly intriguing.

I hope you realize that you've opened yourself to DefensiveReject-level breaking news.

*restricts urge to come up with new shocking Wii U name*

You have very flexible genitalia or a terrible, terrible medical condition.

Yikes, I was reading the requirements to gain access to Nintendo's SDK and I can see why indie gaming is almost non existent.

You need to have prior game experience and have a secured office location that is not residential.

No garage programming for me on eShop :(

And I'm going to reiterate yet again that while it's incredibly clever, it may give devs even more reason to eschew local multiplayer in their games. Also, I question the camera's ability to reliably do this (even though I suggested a similar camera trick involving survival horror games at some point in this thread, too!).

If Nintendo's console jumps out of the local multiplayer arena, then I am not quite done with gaming, but my purchase frequency will certainly shrivel a great deal.

HylianTom in the know? Aaaawww shit.

Didnt you know we figured he's a Retro employee trolling us instead of crunching code :P

The thing is, I have vowed not to open the email until E3, so I'm as clueless as everyone here.

HA! I remeber that now. Awesome that you got some takers. wonder if they are legit....maybe you should check *troll face* :D
