WiiU

Well, we know for sure WiiU is coming out next year.
We dont know about the other two. And this mentions ONE console or platform, not multiple, so safe to assume whatever they are working on is for the WiiU.

If its for the next CoD.
And the WiiU launches around Fall, next year, it looks to have a large line-up of third party games, be they ports or otherwise. Nintendo better have their online service up to par, or better than the HD twins, to steal the show next Xmas. I think most will forgive straight ports, with no graphic enhancements for launch games, just to see how fun it will be to play with the tablet controller. But the tablet controller will not make up for a shoddy online experience.
At this point, CoD coming to a home console is as much of a forgone conclusion as a Nintendo console getting a Mario platformer or an XBox getting Halo. As a result, this is nothing new.

Sadly, CoD is an online game, which means that the Wii U version will be inferior gameplay-wise. I don't see Nintendo truly ditching friend codes, and wild west won't cut it either.

Also, Wii U will probably launch in June or September, rather than the holidays.

That would be great for Nintendo, depending how their online service turns out. I'm sure tons of people will buy the WiiU just to play COD on the new console.

I think the WiiU will get a hell of a lot of 3rd party support the first year, but I'm afraid the WiiU will get so much shovelware that 3rd parties will start to complain when these shit don't sell like always

I'm not sure that Wii U will sell enough to get flooded with shovelware like Wii was.

Friend codes are already confirmed to be gone...
And we have no idea if it'll be wild west, but so far nothing indicates it will be.

I just want to know about the console already. Give me RAM, a unified account and I'll shut up until February dammit.

You survived guys.

You survived.
I remember you from somewhere, but I just can't put my finger on it.

Fake edit: Now I remember.

Why does shovelware matter? How does the existence of games like "Ninjabread Man: Wii U Edition" affect games like CoD? Seriously.

People aren't too bright.
They somehow forget that shovelware exists on every system always and forever.

People didn't realize that this was just a put together concept video?

Was that stated during the presentation?

When you think about it, Nintendo really sent out all the wrong signals during E3.
Showing trailers of 360/PS3 games, underwhelming many.

Showing the controller with a white box, that looked very similar to the Wii, making many people think the controller was either the new console, or it was an add-on for the Wii.

Not showing any games in progress that would show off the power of the system. Just a few interactive concept videos.

What were they trying to sell during E3, 'mystery'?

they were selling the controller to developers. I think that's about it

I don't think it mattered if they showed 360/PS3 footage or WiiU footage. People were predisposed to think it looked like shit, anyway.

Thus all the "Looks worse than 360" comments. They were probably typed out before the reel began.

I'm a Nintendo fan and probably typed a comment like that. The whole presentation was shittily put together, and it's not my fault for being cynical.

I was thinking that too, but then I recall this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwJOdOFsRBk

They had already approached developers.
Plus, they could have had a special meeting for additional developers behind closed doors.
No need for a public reveal.

I actually think it was more to make Sony and MS commit to new console earlier than later. Forcing them to spend money on research, stop them from filling their war chests with their current gen consoles.

No, it's confirmed that Ubisoft won't use them. Until I hear from Nintendo, I'll remain a skeptic. Or, at least until I see evidence that Nintendo has realized the importance of an online community.

well the public reveal was also because they had virtually nothing else to show off for the remainder of the year.

It's not like they could have had the orchestra play zelda music for 40 minutes...though that would have probably been a more enjoyable conference.

Something I really don't get is why they showed an inferior version of the bird demo and cut it short. Was it because the framerate dips in some of those later segments? Why not even show the entirety of the zelda tech demo? That kind of stuff baffled me.

Also...pikmin 3 - Where the hell were you?

You don't think that Nintendo has realized that yet? They gave their online to a 3rd party. Sounds like they realize they need help to me.

Can we leave the offensive remarks out? Just because someone is a junior doesn't mean they are automatically stupid and not worthy of listening to, regardless of what you think of the original statement that this guy made.

It seems to be a common theme here among some people to insult new members to the forum if they say something silly. If anything it proves your own immaturity and definitely doesn't foster a great community feeling.

Nope they are cooler than you because they post on a forum more than you do.

Nintendo wasn't ready to reveal the Wii U. If you have to promote your product with a sizzle reel captured from your competitors' products, you are seriously unprepared. It was a disaster. No, I'm not a troll. I own a DS Lite and a Wii. I'm just calling it the way I saw it. The presentation was embarrassingly awful. They should have waited until 2012. What was going through their minds?

Nevertheless, I'm really looking forward to the Wii U. I hope it will be a solid product when it is released. I'd like to have Nintendo console which doesn't look horrible on our HD TV.

do we actually know something real about this?

did they actually say "we are not dealing with the online by ourself and we have outsourced all of it"?

They didn't quite give it to a third-party. At best, it sounds like they're using feedback from other publishers. At worst, it's wild west. Wild west seems likely because it means that Nintendo can avoid liability if little Timmy gets molested while playing a friend code-less game on Wii U. (That's the only reason I can think of that Nintendo uses friend codes and requires both parties to enter the code. If they were that concerned for kids, they wouldn't put a web browser into their consoles.)

Friends codes were just a really poorly thought out idea. I think it would have been better if the wii forced you to set up parental controls. Have something pop up on the first startup that says "Parental controls MUST be set up by an individual 18 years or older as indicated by our terms of service" and have a really in depth parental control system filled with warnings and cautionary tales.

It would have been annoying but it would have made a very strong point that parents are responsible for the games their children play. If "under 18 mode" is activated, it could prohibit the adding of friends or chatting with strangers without first inputting something similar to a friend code or the parental key code.

They didn't outsource it. What we do know is that EA has some people working with Nintendo in that specific area.

Actually, we don't even know that much for sure. It's just a safe guess based on what happened at E3.

The Wii is dying and they needed to stay in the headlines? I think they also wanted to please investors but that backfired, right?

Yeah, but only because investors are fucking idiots. Doesn't matter how good a show Nintendo had, unless they announced a move into the mobile phone gaming scene, they were doomed in their eyes.

Heck, it's not only just investors. GAF pretty much claims Nintendo was doomed in their eyes (as evidenced by the number of negative Nintendo threads during those weeks).

Investors ironically forced Nintendo to reveal their cards about the 3DS early, and perhaps screw up their launch because of it. I'm hoping this media blackout means they have enough wiggleroom to think things over and not give in to (too much) investment presure (or GAF claiming things like WiiU needs Achievement system of srots, etc). I'd rather they'd come up with a solid concept that they'd back-up all the way, even if some people, nay, most people should disagree with them or their strategy.

It was leaked, so they didn't have any choice. They had to say something whether they wanted to or not. Also, Nintendo never reveals a console just a few months prior to launch.

That's because no games have been made yet.

It's the same reason why I shook my head every time an ignorant person says "HURR THEY SHOULDA PUT SMASH IN THE TRAILER".

The guy from EA Sports said that himself. Remember he said they had people under NDA that were helping Nintendo with the online system

juniors are no exception. They are just a bit more obvious because its an easy go to as a call out.

Realistically, if an opinion is put out there that's uninformed/inflammatory that seems designed to be inflammatory (e.g. like someone trying to be a Bully), then it's either Wario64 (banned lol) or a Junior, since making it to member status without being banned (and thus permabanned as a Junior) sort of weeds out such posters. Therefore it tends to be Juniors who probably won't make it to Member that make the most outrageous statements.

Obviously all Juniors are not like that or there would be no Members here, but that tag seems to make a strong impression, since the username usually doesn't stay around long enough to.

Juniors...

You think you're somehow superior to someone else because you've posted a bit more than them on an internet forum?

Do you realise how utterly pathetic that is?

That bullshit is the shame of GAF, some people need to get a fucking life and some perspective.

Agreed. It really is dumb to see people "call out" others--it's like internet forum hazing or something. Lame.

Of course they should be. It's just people saying "LOL, juniors!" that gets me. Every person on here was a junior at some point, and I'm pretty sure that breaking into the average member population didn't change their posting style at all.

What the heck? So we're back to discussing juniors and insults again? I thought this thread had finally gotten back on track discussing non-existent hardware and imagined graphical projections. One person made a junior joke surely we can move past it?

I had no place in the discussion beforehand, just sorta airing my grievances on a popular GAF tradition :P

No but I think some poor posting habits are fixed during your time as a junior. It's not like people go out of their way to ignore posts from junior members, its just an easy and relatively inoffensive way to tell someone they fucked up. Compare that to how a regular member gets treated when they make an awful post, its hardly that bad.

I don't like it when it's used to disregard people for simply having an unpopular opinion or an opinion that someone doesn't agree with, however I think it's pretty appropriate for someone who makes an uninformed or borderline trolling post.

Regardless this is totally OT, and it's far more annoying when people feel the need to take a stand like this:

Mario Paint would be amazing on this thing.
Before its all over the wii u will get its own version of mario paint, flipnote studio, art academy, and probably some hd sequels to popular ds games like Brain Training, Nintendogs, and other touch based games. But now with this new interface won't some games be ridiculously similar to some 3ds games?

Personally I hope Wii U gets a version of Soul Calibur where we can finally answer the age old question.

Which is mightier: the pen or the sword?
