Do you seriously have to infect every Nintendo thread with your idiotic comments? I'm honestly getting tired of them.
I said that it'll flop hard if Nintendo only releases 4-5 games in it's first two years. How is that disagreeable? Did you bother reading what I was replying to, or did you just want another opportunity to insult me?

Just look at the Iwata cuts his salary thread where you have some saying he should be fired (Dream is just trolling though) and the Vita CPU manufactured by Samsung thread where some are going on about their bad experiences with Samsung electronics build quality or why is it 45nm nevermind that Samsung probably has the most experienced fab when it comes to ARM cpus.
One of which was a fucking mod...

I think we'll get up to 2 titles from Nintendo for Wii U's launch with 2-3 titles planned for 2013.

We'll get at least ten games within the first year. Some of which GAF may not care for.

I actually didn't, I've been browsing GAF from my phone since my Internet is off and it is a pain. I was simply basing what I said on your history. My apologies.

Wii didn't have much in the way of launch titles from Nintendo. There was a GameCube port of Zelda, Wii Sports as a pack-in title, and ExciteTruck, which was made by Monster Games.
Nintendo released Paper Mario in Q2 2007 followed by Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy for the second half of of the year.

I think NSMB3 and a few casual games with a very low percentage chance of a new IP from EAD launching is the very most that could be expected for WiiU in 2012. Retro probably will have a game in 2013, EAD Tokyo will probably have a new game in 2014, Mario Kart 8 mid-2014, new Zelda and Smash Bros in late 2014 or early 2015 with casual games and lower tier games sprinkled in between.

General thought.

The name "Wii U" will not cause confusion.

Though I think the whole "NO ONE KNOWS THE 3DS IS A NEW HANDHELD" talk is quite overblown, there is some truth as there were FOUR DS models throughout its life.

There was only one Wii and there's only been one Wii since 2006. You might not like the Wii U name, but it isn't very confusing.

I'll probably buy one at launch if Nintendo can get it $300 or less and if they announce some cool stuff they haven't yet (like really great online, 3DS connectivity) and have a good first year lineup.

And you know... if there was a great web browser that worked between the controller and TV, that would be an awesome incentive to get a Wii U. That part in the E3 video looked very cool. Nintendo has never had a system with even a decent browser, so that's a big IF.

I agree that they need to change the Wii U name though, because its terrible and will cause the sane confusion.

There's a very simple way they could rename the Wii U without it being awkward, just use Wii U as the name for the controller and call the console something else. You could be forgiven for thinking they only named the controller at E3.

Probably not confusing, it at least needs Wii in the title thanks to the angle they've gone for.
There will potentially be people just wanting to buy the new screen to go with their Wii, like they could with the Wii Fit scales, but I don't know what you can do about those.

I'm not sure that's such a good idea as it would be odd and confusing.

Just call it the Wii 2. I don't understand why this is such an issue. The Wii U could conceivably cause confusion, whereas the Wii 2 is pretty basic in terms of naming a successor to anything in any market.

Isn't this missing Wario Ware: Smooth Moves and Wii Play?

IMO Nintendo have fucked up. Whenever I hear someone talking about wii(1), it's negative. Because..the buyer got duped into buying the system and not receiving the games/experiences that they wanted in the first place. If Nintendo really wanted to clear up next gen, they'd have to succeed the PS4/Nextbox. Instead they're creating more of a Dreamcast scenario where they limit themeselves to success or massive install base in the first year of launch (which is majorly hard) by using technology that's only slightly enhanced albeit with a gimmick to capture the majority of the Market.

How do you succeed systems that aren't even in the hands of developers?

Not succeed, match. Wii U will be completely irrelevant in 2 years regardless of screen in controller or not, unless it can match up to the Sony & MS consoles or it gets a huge start with huge 3rd party support. That ain't gunna happen because we know that MS/Sony don't mind starting at a loss and profiting in the long run with high-tech systems, where as Nintendo like to profit from the off with low-tech and a gimmick.

They do this one generation with one system... and that's apparently all Nintendo has ever done...

Nothing big but, listening to the DPL podcast they were doing an interview with the Zen Pinball guy...he said the machine is really powerful and are releasing the game via the downloadable service.

If you don't know what Zen Pinball is, its the best pinball game you can buy. Also coming to 3DS.

Thanks for the info. And here's the direct link for those interested.

Nintendo's Deadly Assassins keeping things in check as always. But that guy did speak highly of the power. If anyone is interested the section starts around 37:35.

The DS and especially 3DS are being thrown into that hat now.

You're wrong, the ds was the natural sucession of the gameboy advance power wise, it was Sony who actually jumped and throwed all that cash into PSP because that's what Sony does, they like to build expensive systems....whether that makes the competition outdated i dont really know....the 3ds was a mistake from a price point of view but its also the natural progression of things.....

I'm saying that others are throwing them into that. I don't agree with them.

With Ghost Recon and the new Team Meat game being DD on the Wii U, it seems to be a pretty freaking HUGE step up from their past/current services.

I have to agree there. It gives me hope that jaws will drop during the full Wii U reveal.

But that logic means that the PS4/Xbox 720 will be irrelevant two years after their release when Nintendo releases the Wii Z. Not an argument that holds up.

Team Meat expressed a lot of anger at Microsoft for promising a big push for SMB and failing to do so. They felt Steam did a lot better.

If Nintendo is seemingly their partner for their next game, I kind of wonder if that stealth-confirms some kind of skeletal structure for the system that can inform and advertise like the 360 does, at least.

It needs to. They're doing all right with the 3DS in how they promote things (but they really need to have a way to easily browse the entire catalog).
And Iwata has already talked about force pushing demos to systems, so that may be part of it.

Do you guys think that part of the reason the 3DS failed to garner optimal sales is because it was released prematurely?

If so, could that effect the release of the Wii U?

I thought the WiiU thing was just a troll because Super Meat Boy never made it to Wii.

Well, only if by that you mean launching before it had system selling software.
Which has no barring on the actual time it launches.
The 3DS is a completed system, it just needs to software.

Did they state as such?

Pardon my ignorance, and not reading through this massive thread, but what can we expect to see at TGS?

A big old pile of squat.
Now, at Nintendo's event in October, we can probably expect to see games and a more finalized system.

I think they should have the event September actually, before the end of the quarter. Ending the quarter with hope that Nintendo will rise from the ashes of the 3DS launch and become a much stronger company because of it will cause gamers to love Nintendo again and investors to see that Nintendo is still profitable.

Also, they need to let third-parties show games at TGS. Seriously, that will be huge.

No but they haven't stated it's being made for WiiU other than some random tweet. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it was a troll :P
