What?Nintendo needs to ride bare back.
What?Nintendo needs to ride bare back.
That's exactly what they seem to do right now. On the other hand, it seems they all but closed NST.Why?
No seriously, why? Everything what defined RARE back in the day isn't there anymore. I'd rather have Nintendo buy another western studio. Or expand Retro.
Pilotwings?Speaking of Nintendo buying stuff, did they buy Monster Games yet? Last four games they made were for Nintendo, website wasn't updated in more than a year, and they were hiring a few months ago, so they're certainly not dead. They also hired a character animator, something they never had and never needed in the past (at least as far as I can tell).
Nintendo needs to buy rare back.
Dunno who animated that game, but no - the character animator was hired in September. Seems to be new to games, comes from the movie industry (Reel FX and Sony Pictures Imageworks).Pilotwings?

I'm thinking mini pads. Like a U controller, just without the screen. Same shape and everything, just smaller. I'm going to mock one up now!
For like $5 dollars.
Retro this, Retro that, Retro should do this, Retro should handle this.

The thing is, I don't know if Nintendo is willing to close these kind of deals. All of those ventures like F-Zero GX, Star Fox Assault and Metroid Other M for instance weren't smash hits. Quality is one, but the size of the franchise is another. If Nintendo announces a partner project in the not so distant future, they will need soms sort of guarantee of it being a smash hit. Personally, after Ono from Capcom joked about Nintendo vs. Capcom I really hope that will happen one day.I hope Nintendo will work together more with 3rd party teams to output more of their smaller IPs. Hopefully they took up Kamiya's offer to have Platinum do a Starfox game, would be fantastic near launch.

In the GC/Wii era if a game didn't perform spectaculary, it didn't matter. Budgets were manageable. With Wii U on the way, game development will be more expensive. If a game doesn't perform very well, Nintendo will feel the burn.Says who?
Nintendo doesn't make every game a smash hit.
It's not like these partnerships get huge budgets.
I just don't get where you think that every game has to be huge seller.
So, I re-watched most of E3 2006 Nintendo conference. It was 1 hour and 5 minutes long. Only 15 minutes was dedicated to DS, rest of the time was all about Wii.
The pacing of the conference was very good, with little talk and much video fotage of games.
They showed Wii Music, Wii Sports, Mario Galaxy, MP3, Zelda TP, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Project Hammer (which was cancelled later), Fire Emblem, Excite Truck, something more that I forgot.
They also showed some third party games including on-stage demo of Red Steel.
They didn´t reveal the price. I searched and found that it was revealed in September.
As launch date they only said Q4, no specific dates. Also revealed in September.
Unless Wii U releases in Q3, I am thinking we won´t know the price or date this time either. They won´t reveal all information either, as was the case with Wii at E3.
Lots of games from Nintendo were shown at E3, including new IPs and also Mario, Zelda and Metroid.
I am thinking, this time around there will be "only" a new Mario game and a new Metroid of these 3 key franchises. I don´t think we will see Zelda for Wii U at this years E3, as it was just released for Wii (Hopefully I am wrong).
A new Zelda for 3DS will be shown.
Pikmin Wii U is basically confirmed, I am sure we will see it at E3.
Maybe F-Zero for Wii U.
Several new IP´s will be shown.
Wii U Tablet game demos feels pretty certain as well.

It feels almost certain that EA will show at least one sports game, at Nintendos conference I mean.
Maybe a football game, where you use the screen to manage your team.
Mass Effect Prime
You don't play as Shepard, but as Samus Aran instead.
Wave Race Wii U.
If I say it enough times, it will happen.
I would have agreed with you last month.
But ever since Nintendo stated that 2012 will be the year of the WiiU,
and, unlike the Wii, where they stated launch in Q4, I see WiiU launching soon after or during E3, where prices will be announced.
You simply cannot claim a "year" if your product is released at the end of the year.
Like with the 3DS, what they probably plan to do is create momentum up to Xmas, by launching key titles and services. Thus, overshadowing the spotlight from the current generation.

Personally, I expect something from Monolith Soft.
They revealed Monado (Xenoblade) at E3 2009 and released it a year later, and with them starting recruiting at the end of 2010 and revealing a Wii U project in the works after E3 2011 their game could've been in development for 1-2 years by the Wii U's release; I wouldn't be surprised if it were released in the first year of the Wii U's life.

very much excited for their game. Monolith + HD + the types of games they make = too good to be true.Personally, I expect something from Monolith Soft.

Xenoblade was released in Japan in June 2010. Localisation wouldn't require much involvement from Monolith, so they'll have been working on something for at least two years by the time the Wii U launches.
Edit: In fact, they'll have been working on something for two years by the time E3 rolls around, so an announcement from them is pretty much inevitable.

And the second Monolith Wii U interview is still untranslated. I also wonder how big they are now. They used to work on two to three games at a time, and they even opened a second studio last year.
Sin and Punishment and F-Zero GX are by far the best collaborations they've done critically. I'm not sure what happened with Star Fox and Namco. The first level was good, but then it all went downhill. I think they had a good idea, but they need to look at games like War Hawk if they're going to continue to pursue that. The controls were horrible for the on foot sections.
Other M was such a cluster-f*ck I don't even know where to begin. It could have been great, instead it was average. There's already been a lot of debate about that so I don't want to go there.
As far as Kamiya asking to do Star Fox, I had no idea. I always thought Factor 5 would have been a good fit, but perhaps Kamiya could bring some fresh air to the series after all of these botched attempts. Personally, I'd rather see him do a Viewtiful Joe inspired Donkey Kong game, but regardless Nintendo should be sending them development kits. They need games like Metal Gear Rising on Wii U as well as games from Konami. It's a bit concerning we're already seeing it looked over.
Platinum x Tokyo EAD for a Jungle Beat 2! We could have the drumming back with the Wii U screen!!!
Didn't quite a few of them help with Skyward Sword ? I'm not sure we can already expect something from them.

That's a possibility. Actually, I think Treasure might be a better fit for Star Fox too. After watching the Battle Mii video, that seems like a good direction to take. They can make these series popular again with the right direction.
But is a decimated team really ready to show us their new game ? Did they get dev kits early enough ? Did they have enough time to use/modify/create a graphics engine for the new system ? If their project is similar in scope, can we already expect a reveal, especially with the increasing amount of work you have to put into HD games ?
You may be right, but I think it's legitimate to have doubts. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo gives once again 3rd parties a bit more spotlight and focusses on only a few games they have in store for Wii U. A new RPG by Monolith would certainly be glorious though.
Then again, I'm not even sure if I expect Pikmin 3. Maybe I'm just a bit too pessimistic.
