Will Nintendo "phase out" the OG 3DS?

You take that back.

The DSi and XL look amazing, hopefully Nintendo's next generation handheld looks that great.

On topic, yes I think they'll phase it out, as they're doing already, slowly, for a new revision probably revealed at E3.

I just got the $100 2DS with Pokemon X included but I am kinda regretting it. Lots of people said the 2DS is most comfortable but the sides really dig into my palms. (Has anyone tried the Nerf Armor? It's tempting if I'm gonna keep this thing)
The pixel density is weak on the XL but the large screen is just easier on the eyes. XL is also more portable and I'm pretty sure the screen isn't glossy like the 2DS...something I noticed right away when playing in my living room yesterday. Now I've missed the free $40 gift card deal from Target so even if I return the 2DS I will be wasting an extra 20 bucks or so probably. Might be worth it but I just can't decide.
I agree, something that's the OG size with a screen inbetween it and the XL would be nice as long as it's comfortable.

I was pretty sure I wasn't a graphics whore so I thought that the pixel thing in XL wasn't going to bother me, but it did and I couldn't grow accustomed to it (BD looked especially awful with it), thankfully I hadn't sold my OG yet. Anyway, if they did an OG revision I would probably buy it because I'm impulsive like that.

Replace it with a new normal-sized model with a decent battery and no region lock. I don't like the form factors of either the XL or the 2DS.

Create a 3DS Lite.

Replace the normal 3DS' weird shiny finish with a matte finish (like the 3DSXL), make it available in non-black/blue/white colors, and I am sold (lime green is an instabuy).

I want this to exist so bad.

Exactly. I get that "BIGGER SCREENS!" is a nice sales pitch, but it's a dubious advantage if it's blowing up a resolution that was already pretty pithy on a small screen.

There's nothing dubious about it, you get larger screens and less cramped controls. the GBA to Micro was the same way, smaller pixels will always look sharper/cripser, but the screen obviously has to be much smaller.

I would love to see a second gen OG 3DS, with revised look and bigger battery. Unfortunately, Nintendo is not in the market of doing that and would probably rather we all buy 2DSes.

Nintendo don't usually announce revisions in the DS family at E3. Actually I don't think they announced any of the DS revisions at E3. They definitely didn't for the 3DS XL (Direct) and 2DS. So I wouldn't bet on that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't someone recently dig up a batch of alternate 3DS design patents? Different circle pad placements, form factors and so forth?

It's driving me nuts. I know it's real. Can't find it.
