[IGN] Nintendo Switch 2 Outselling the OG Switch 2-to-1 Across the Globe; Fastest-selling Nintendo console ever in the U.S.

predicted

This isn't saying anything about single day unit sales though.

I know it's a failure and a laughing stock, but I got Wii U day 1 and had some of my best gaming memories on that system. Nintendo Land is some of the best local multiplayer hilarity I've ever experienced.
My wife and I got high and played Super Mario Bros. U all night the first day we got it. Maybe the best gaming night of my life.

Proving just how little the UK market really matters.

Technically Switch 2 is already next gen for Nintendo compared to Ps5 and Xbox series x/s which were release last 2020 in the pandemic era. So usually anything new will always sell big, sort like FOMO. But the challenge is legs. How long is its legs to sell especially outside Japan. Japan is pretty much Nintendo land so no problem with that. USA and Europe is always Nintendo's issue.

Does this make the Switch 2 the best Nintendo console ever?
That will depend on what games come out in the coming years.
Why is IGN afraid to say Switch 2 sales crushed Playstaion's records?

The "let's not hurt Sony's feelings" word salad in this article is glaring.
Because that's what Nintendo themselves said. They probably don't have exact numbers for every other platform in its first four days.
This is also how people act when talking about the Switch 1 crushing the PS2. Hemming and hawing. We all know it is inevitable even after the goal post move from Sony.

Switch 2 is cheap in Japan. That will control the zeitgeist of developers who create the games we play on this thing which will in turn control the audience. Switch 2 will be a 100m+ console. Nintendo is also becoming a more premium brand in gaming and this holiday is going to be monstrous. We have never been more consumerish and this new toy is going to dominate.
Switch 2 isn't cheap in Japan for people who live there and get paid in yen though.

Switch 2s first four days outsold every PlayStation systems first month sales. That data is there. Switch 2 stomped everything.

My wife loved the Zelda game. We played it a ton.
Our favorite was the Animal Crossing one where you have to steal all the candy. My wife and my friend's non-gamer wife got so into it lol, they'd come over with bottles of wine and just hang out playing Nintendo Land, it was awesome.

My nephew loved the Metroid game so we played the shit out of that too.

What are the first four days of sales for the different PS consoles in the US?
It doesn't matter what PlayStation's first four day sales are. We know what PlayStation's first month / holiday sales are and Switch 2's four day sales eclipse those greatly. You don't need to know PS4/5s first four day sales to know Switch 2 stomped them when we know Switch 2's first four days stomped their first month.

I thought I made that clear in my response but I spelled it out even slower this time.

Someone needs to make an official eating crow thread and compile all the posts of people saying this console would fail

I had a great time with Devil's Third in single AND multi-player. I'm not even joking.

Your an idiot. You cannot claim success of a console just because it sells out it's launch. The WiiU sold out and how did that turn out? The N64, The gamecube, etc. They all sold out at launch and the final results is what matters. I know your slow but the reference is both the N64, Gamecube, and throw in the WiiU all sold out during launch but ended up grossly underselling the competition. SLow your roll before you claim this is an automatic success.

I personally love these threads. Of course it was going to sell out at launch. It's about the long term success. I cannot wait to see all the crow eating and Nintendo boot licking when the sales slow months down the road.

I mean, its great that they are selling some consoles, but even the almighty switch still hasn't equaled the sales of the wii/ds era. (257million)

Nintendo has been flagging ever since combining home/handheld sales. All anyone has to do is look to the wiiu/3DS debacle. Now the switch did give them a limited bump financially, but I certainly wouldn't be cheering for this launch. There is a long, and uncertain road ahead them.

Launch sales are just that, launch sales, and offer no indication of long term success. Die-hard fans always show up for a launch, as shown by the Wiiu. Lets see how it performs for the next several years before coming to any kind of judgment about this "record breaking" launch. All it is, is availability to be honest. If Sony had the stock, they would have exceeded these sales easily during the PS4/PS5 launch.

Dragon Age Vielgard sold well it's first day and the developer was talking crap about how good it was doing. How did that turn out? Some people are so short sighted.

It probably did beat everything else, but we'll have to wait for the Circana data. We don't know how much of those 3.5 million+ Switch' 2s were sold in the US, so are not yet in a place to definitely make any statements.

I imagine Matt will say its the biggest launch in terms of units (any maybe even revenue) when the June Circana report comes out.

Either way, the wording used by Nintendo and IGN isn't because "let's not hurt Sony's feelings".

It wont make much difference, once sales even more you gonna come up with different excuse.

For fuck sake for someone how hates Switch 2 you come to every Switch 2 thread to post your fucking nonsense.

Maybe you should sped time playing on a console you do enjoy instead wasting on Switch 2 you clearly hate.

I do. Your a Nintendo Soy boy so you hate the truth and I get that. Go change your diaper if you cannot handle the truth. It's a forum and thats my discussion points. Don't like it then shut the hell up.

Glad to see it was such a strong launch. Mine is coming on Saturday :)

I honestly have no idea how well it will do long-term. Gut feeling is it won't match Switch 1, for a few reasons:

- higher priced console + games
- more competition in handheld space
- Switch 1 benefitted from a library of kickass Wii U ports that nobody played on Wii U
- Switch 1 benefitted from the COVID gaming bubble
- anecdotally, lots of kids who started gaming on Switch are now playing only Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox

Who knows though… probably whatever I predict, the opposite will happen.

I'm extremely impressed they have this much inventory at launch. Seriously people, that would cost a shit ton to hold this many units in a warehouse for 6+ months.

Could you call Bowser and ask how progress on Xenoblade 4 is coming along? 😁

Amazing stuff. I love that in the end this device will be able to play 16+ years of Nintendo gaming history. If only they wouldnt have fucked up 3rd party physical releases so much, hope they can push publishers to sort that game key card stuff out.

Now do handhelds.

It's important to remember that gaming forums represent a super tiny minority of overall consumer base. Most of that base has no idea was a neogaf is.

Not only that, but if you look at the recent poll asking how GAF users feel about the Switch 2's success, the vast majority either felt the success was deserved on its own merits or were hopeful about the console because of the goodwill built up by the OG Switch, and another sizable chunk were only mildly pessimistic, so the frothing at the mouth is coming from a small minority even here, on a forum where most of us spend more time bitching about video games than playing them.

Switch 2s first four days outsold every PlayStation systems first month sales. That data is there. Switch 2 stomped everything.
All things were supply constrained. All week one sales tell us is how many they managed to stockpile for launch. Calling it a record is asinine. PS5 sold out for years. Switch one was hard to get for a year.

Likely this thing will keep selling great but it was pretty easy to get compared to other launches and the numbers basically show that. There were millions available on day 1. I could have got one on the day of from Costco and scalped my Walmart unit for like only 70 bucks profit. An extra PS5 could have been sold for several hundred profit.

Well then why the fuck haven't they? Seriously, if that's all anyone had to do, why did they not? Do ya'all realize the nightmare of logistics that would be manufacturing, shipping, and most of all, warehousing, this many units for this long? Them managing to do that in and of itself would be commendable, that they did it and were able to sell through makes it even more exceptional.

Seriously, we have some rare good news in the industry every now and then, and some of you fuckers can't stop being miserable for just long enough to even enjoy that.

They are just upset that Switch 2 is a bigger success and hurting their favorite brand.

The Switch 2 outselling all console at launch makes a great marketing headline. Nobody cares about supply constraints excuse.
