[IGN] Nintendo Switch 2 Outselling the OG Switch 2-to-1 Across the Globe; Fastest-selling Nintendo console ever in the U.S.

Your an idiot. You cannot claim success of a console just because it sells out it's launch. The WiiU sold out and how did that turn out? The N64, The gamecube, etc. They all sold out at launch and the final results is what matters. I know your slow but the reference is both the N64, Gamecube, and throw in the WiiU all sold out during launch but ended up grossly underselling the competition. SLow your roll before you claim this is an automatic success.
If the anyway confirmed line up for the rest of the year doesn't give you the memo then idk what will... And mind you, we still don't know a single thing about:

- 3D Mario
- Animal Crossing
- Mainline Zelda
- Splatoon 4
- Smash
- Mainline Pokemon
- Luigi's Mansion

And I'm not even counting the under 10M sellers that are still bigger than most franchises anyway, but the ones I listed can easily put any date in the calendar and whatever releasing in whatever other platform but not on Switch 2 will not affect it in the slightest, they'll sell as many Switch 2 that month as they want.

@EviLore can you give back his thread making privileges for a day? plllleeease boss

I mean, its great that they are selling some consoles, but even the almighty switch still hasn't equaled the sales of the wii/ds era. (257million)

Nintendo has been flagging ever since combining home/handheld sales. All anyone has to do is look to the wiiu/3DS debacle. Now the switch did give them a limited bump financially, but I certainly wouldn't be cheering for this launch. There is a long, and uncertain road ahead them.

Launch sales are just that, launch sales, and offer no indication of long term success. Die-hard fans always show up for a launch, as shown by the Wiiu. Lets see how it performs for the next several years before coming to any kind of judgment about this "record breaking" launch. All it is, is availability to be honest. If Sony had the stock, they would have exceeded these sales easily during the PS4/PS5 launch.
This is an erratic narrative, Wii + NDS had different games libraries, if people wanted to have access to the whole Nintendo catalog they had to get both and in fact many people did, but they only need one Switch to access all Nintendo games, they have no reason to get two Switches or something else, reducing the amount of potential hardware sales by mere nature.

That's as weird as saying PS4 had to surpass both PS3 and PSP in order to count as successful lol

I hope they spent 500 million on the next Zelda game and also make it look like the Wii U TECH Demo or bringing the Ocarina of Time and MM's art style fully to life. A massive 150GB Switch 2 game,

Funny how things change, eight years ago you had a very different tone about the original Switch's potential pre-release. Now you're calling people out because of the Switch 2 success?

Do you honestly believe your logic? :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_grinning_squinting::messenger_tears_of_joy:

Betting time: Do you think the Switch will be a success?
GAF is gonna be shook when this thing does gangbusters a couple of years down the road.

I'm always impressed by the shortsightedness on display here.
And when it doesn't will you quote your own post and do a follow up?
Nintendoomed lol... actually is it?

The $299 models are almost sold out online less than 12 hours after start of sales.... thats only a few weeks quicker than it took for the ps4 for what it is worth..
Do you honestly believe your logic?

The Nintendo Switch 2 is the fastest-selling Nintendo hardware in the U.S. in the four days following its release, according to a statement obtained by IGN from Nintendo.

I have the previous record holder for strongest opener for a Nintendo console at 540,000 which was the GBA (launched back in June 2001). That record holds unless the Switch 1 sold more. I have Switch 1 sales at 500k opening week but unsure of that source.

So Switch 2 broke that. I'm surprised NoA won't give numbers (as if they are not as impressive), and they don't mention it doubling over Switch1 in the US.

Edit: oh maybe they did, if so that puts it around 1m. If this is the case why wouldn't they say it reached or exceeded 1 million? Hell of a milestone to not make public.

All things were supply constrained. All week one sales tell us is how many they managed to stockpile for launch. Calling it a record is asinine. PS5 sold out for years. Switch one was hard to get for a year.

Likely this thing will keep selling great but it was pretty easy to get compared to other launches and the numbers basically show that. There were millions available on day 1. I could have got one on the day of from Costco and scalped my Walmart unit for like only 70 bucks profit. An extra PS5 could have been sold for several hundred profit.
If and if isn't going to support your argument when Switch 2 itself is having supply issues in many countries.

Take Japan for example, My Nintendo stores had 2.2m people applied to preorder and combined with other retailers it probably over 5m for launch preorder alone. Nintendo only managed to fulfill ~1m hardware during Switch 2 launch week in Japan.

If Nintendo were able to satisfy launch demand, you are not looking at 3.5m numbers right now but 10m for launch week.

I do. Your a Nintendo Soy boy so you hate the truth and I get that. Go change your diaper if you cannot handle the truth. It's a forum and thats my discussion points. Don't like it then shut the hell up.
You sound like an emotional stable and well rounded individual.

Glad Switch 2 is doing well. I did my part ;)

I would like some clarification on that uk comment
It says uk sales were less than ps4, ps5 and Xbox series for the same time period
Did we have 4 day sales for those?
Similarly it may have taken until Tuesday (6 days) for uk stock to sell out but from what I was seeing getting a uk switch from retail is pretty hard right now from what I've been following, not impossible but most stores are back ordered with very limited drops of inventory happening sporadically for a few minutes here and there
Or is this just ign being ign?

It wont make much difference, once sales even more you gonna come up with different excuse.

For fuck sake for someone how hates Switch 2 you come to every Switch 2 thread to post your fucking nonsense.

Maybe you should sped time playing on a console you do enjoy instead wasting on Switch 2 you clearly hate.
Switch 2 could outsell the DS and homeboy will still find a way to move the goalposts

I don't think that's correct. Seems like the tracking may vary between systems. Ps5, for example, seem to have been tracked for 2 days while the Switch 2 was tracked for 4 days. Ps4 also seem to have been 2 days.
VGC said:
launch sales for Sony's console far exceeded the UK's previous record holder, 2013's PlayStation 4, which sold some 250,000 units in its first 48 hours.

The UK's biggest console launches
  • 250K+ – PS5
  • 250k – PS4
  • 185k – PSP
  • 165k – PS3
  • 155k – Xbox Series X/S
  • 150k – Xbox One
  • 113k – 3DS
  • 105k – Wii
  • 85k – Nintendo DS
  • 80k – Nintendo Switch
  • 70k – Xbox 360
  • 40k – Wii U

But with +180k in four days they never had a chance to beat the Ps5/Ps4 either way.

I don't think we know what the Switch 2 sales in the UK were after 2 days of tracking, so IGN might be assuming it was below the Series consoles at that time since it was at +180K after 4 days.

Well then why the fuck haven't they? Seriously, if that's all anyone had to do, why did they not? Do ya'all realize the nightmare of logistics that would be manufacturing, shipping, and most of all, warehousing, this many units for this long? Them managing to do that in and of itself would be commendable, that they did it and were able to sell through makes it even more exceptional.

Seriously, we have some rare good news in the industry every now and then, and some of you fuckers can't stop being miserable for just long enough to even enjoy that.

That tell you the level of stupidity people reach around here when discussing SW2

I love my Switch 2. It's basically what I wanted from the Switch 1 but could never get: PERFORMANCE and "next gen" aka "current gen" ports.

I can't begin to imagine a port of Cyberpunk 2077 on the OG Switch. Man that would be terrible. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Well deserved sales! Can't wait to see what Nintendo and third parties are cooking up for the Switch 2!

All that bitching and hopes and dreams of failure and Nintendo walk in like Vince Mcmahon and slap their ginormous schlong on the table.

Damn. Vita and Wii U were absolute beasts.

Nintendo doesn't port their games to PC so it isn't a headwind at all. You can't buy Mario kart on your steam deck.
Not everybody who is interested in portable gaming is also interested in Nintendo first party games.

For most of Switch 1's lifetime, if you wanted portable gaming, Switch was the only game in town. Now it's a choice whether you prefer Nintendo's first party lineup or the Steam catalog. (And there are also gamers like me, who own both but use the Switch almost exclusively for first party games and Steamdeck for everything else).

You can debate all you want about how much impact this will have (personally I think not much). But to say it's not a headwind at all because Nintendo games aren't on PC is missing the point

I'm well aware. It's a marathon not a sprint though. The die hard Nintendo fanbase was always going to be their day 1. It's a great start, but it's not necessarily indicative of the casual audience buying Switch 2s 2-3 years from now.

I say this as someone who thinks Switch 2 will sell 100+mil. I just don't think launch sales mean much in the long term

I understand what you're saying and your not wrong. Hell look at the Series X/S consoles. Those sales started off great and they were beating PS in certain months and yet here we are.

Bro, the Steam Deck + other PC handhelds put together have sold 6 million in 3 years, Switch 2 sold more than half that number in 4 days

There is literally no competition for the bulk of the mainstream market. For most people, if they want portables, the Switch 2 remains the only option. PC handhelds are not mass market devices, they do not register for the average Switch buyer.

There is no headwind. If they sell 146 million instead of 152 million because they lost 6 million to PC handhelds, that is not a headwind lol.

Strange. For a console that is selling so well, I see an awful lot of availability. Constantly getting "in-stock" notifications from Wario64, and the scalpers, even at a mere $50 markup, are sitting on piles of systems.

Things aren't adding up here.

yeah its all fake... they are selling nothing. :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Oh FFS. If it costs them 6 million sales then it cost them 6 million sales. You're really going to quote me to try and argue about whether that meets the definition of a headwind?

Nobody is arguing that Steam Deck is going to take the mainstream market and pose a serious threat to Nintendo. I listed competition from other portables as ONE of several factors why Switch 2 might not be as successful as Switch 1. You can go back and read my original post.

Some overly sensitive fanboy decided to quote that single line and argue against something I wasn't even saying.

I'm liking the console so far, but they need a real megaton and to start getting many more relevant third party announcements.

Almost no one is expecting Switch 2 to match Switch 1 sales. It won't happen, the headwinds for them are the economic situation, or the lack of a new pandemic to boost demand. I am just saying PC handhelds are a negligible factor to them. They are probably more concerned about the PS Portal (which has also, in one year, matched Steam Deck sales already) than they are about them.

But I feel like we are splitting hairs here, largely we seem to be saying the same thing.

And all of that outside of holiday season. I guess it might be momentum inheritance from Switch 1's awesomeness.. let's see how it holds up for the rest of the year.

What's not adding up? You're describing a textbook case of high demand being met by equally high stock.

It may seem weird because we're so used to shortages early in a system's life, but this is the reality for the vast majority of consumer goods. If you want something, you go to the store and buy it, and only notice if it's out of stock. Shortages are an indicator of supply chain problems, not a reliable way to judge demand.

Your post is funny but he is kinda right though.

Switch 1 was very successful so by default the switch 2 will follow the hype of a new system.

It's up to Nintendo to keep people wanting to go and buy one. So yeah sales numbers 6 months / 1 year from now should be interesting.

If it follows the same track of the switch 1 or better, then it's safe to assume the console is positioning for success. If not, then they might wanna do something to entice people to buy one whatever software or reducing the price
