There were people entitled Prince of Wales before that. But indeed, as you're suggesting - it was Edward I / Longshanks who made it a matter of English royalty...

He led two campaigns to defeat the Welsh, and spent money that is equivalent to £33m of todays money building castles all around Wales to ensure they couldn't rise against him again.

edwrdmap.jpg

It was also Edward who first hung, drawn and quartered a nobleman - Dafydd ap Gruffydd (who had proclaimed himself Prince of Wales and Lord of Snowdon)... I believe his bits were sent to some of those castles, as a warning and a symbol of what would happen.

Edwardus primus scottorum malleus hic est.

I've been to one of his main castles, caernarvon. And it is absolutely vast, pictures don't do those kind of structures justice...a truly awesome experience to stand at the bottom of the outer wall.

It was sacked by welsh rebels in the 13th century i believe, fuck knows how they pulled THAT off, from what i saw off the walls they would have needed siege towers atleast, or REALLY big ladders. ;)

Much props to those men either way.

Fuckit, I'ma go to a mate's and drink and watch this shit.

FUCKING UK, UK, UK, UK!

On a serious note, she's hot as fuck and I'd give her a whole bunch.

And people that are like, "LOLOL What no one's gonna watch it!"
Fucking kidding yourselves, it's massive news because it's everywhere, and if you're awake and watching TV you're gonna be watching it because it's on.

I'll be up early watching it live. I guess I can understand all the hate/grumpiness, but I'm excited for it. I think it's going to be beautiful (it doesn't hurt that Kate is stunning...and, yes, I'm excited to see the dress). It'll be memorable either way--if everything goes perfectly, or if something goes wrong. Happy to be able to watch it, and glad I can say in the future that I saw it live.

Nope. There are better things to watch or do.

Well he's still a Prince. But then again, I highly doubt Kate is with him for his looks. I love how she's being made out not to be a gold digger by the sensationalist media. Yeah right.
You obviously know her far better than anyone else, please tell us more.

Anyone else feel like England is holding back the human race as a whole?
I really do despise you and not in a jokey sort of way.

Yeah. It's highly unlikely she's a golddigger. She does look like she has class. I read she rejected him before. Maybe she finds him fascinating, and has a great personality, funny, etc.

Because they think all their former colonies are going to be glued to their TV screens like mouth frothing zombies and the crown represents nothing but goodwill, love and kittens to them.

seriously every time i see this huge figures i want to punch some analysit. there is fucking 1.4 billion tv counting that even 2 people per tv has to watch this pos. They over promote this shit. Also they invited so many dictators from arab countries. They would have invited gadafi if it weren't for war.

I really get tired of the "we fought a war to get rid of them!" and the "former colony" nonsense. So, because you were born in a country of which you had no choosing you automatically have to hate two completely random people? Grow up.

I was indifferent to the whole thing (and I'm from the UK) but the unwarranted hatred the two of them get pushes me to defend them.

Hold your horses Sir Knightly. Who's hating the couple? Showing disdain for the elevated celebrity weddings is not the same as hating the people getting married

I don't think people hate the two people getting married...it's just that it's funny that england is stuck in lord of the rings times

im surprised jousting wont be part of the wedding festivities

Pretty much this.

Fuckers are pounding this shit on my tv hard.

Wedding of the century and blah blah. Lots of women probably forcing men to watch it with them. Hard to believe a man would watch it of his own accord.

Some of us women don't plain give a shit either okay.

Well he didn't say all women.

There are lots who don't care too, they just don't make a spectacle of themselves. Speaking of which I was watching the news and they even had a segment about people flying from all over to see it themselves. I was like "oh wow."

Because America is practically bankrupt and people have their own problems for one? Now is not the time for the escapism of this wedding.

I never thought about linking those two, but you do know that if people have more problems, the more escapism they want?

It's pretty much the perfect time to pay attention to a Royal Wedding.

Depends.

When hearing about how much money and extravagance goes into these things it's easy to become bitter and kind of pissed.

How dramatic....

Who comes into a thread just to say that they aren't interested in what the thread's about?

Christ, I think I'm gonna let the guys in the NBA thread know I dont like or watch basketball in the least.

No offense but I don't get NBA shit thrown into my regular news like this Wedding has been. The media overload about this event kind of trumps this attitude. People who don't care, are unable to avoid it much, so they're just displaying their displeasure at hearing about this everywhere.

I don't care about this and think the Royal Family is stupid, but I do have to laugh at Americans who seem to think their country is above it or something. If Jennifer Anniston or someone decided to get married on TV that country would go nuts.

Sadly, celebrity worship seems prevalent all over.

Pretty sure most people who are tired of the media surrounding this marriage don't much like celeb weddings on this side of the pond either. It's not really the fact that it's the british royalty for me, I don't much like the press celebrity weddings get, especially when that crap takes up air time on my local news.
