It was also Edward who first hung, drawn and quartered a nobleman - Dafydd ap Gruffydd (who had proclaimed himself Prince of Wales and Lord of Snowdon)... I believe his bits were sent to some of those castles, as a warning and a symbol of what would happen.

I've been to one of his main castles, caernarvon. And it is absolutely vast, pictures don't do those kind of structures justice...a truly awesome experience to stand at the bottom of the outer wall.
It was sacked by welsh rebels in the 13th century i believe, fuck knows how they pulled THAT off, from what i saw off the walls they would have needed siege towers atleast, or REALLY big ladders.

Much props to those men either way.
