are you just making the game to improve your skills? because it looks just like a billion other helicopter copies

although I've really missed making games... might take it up again, maybe make some wp7 games

I'm just trying to figure out why he's so intent on copying Doodle Jump's art style, right down to the slanted logo and the little doodle dood.

This is my first game ever. This is the first time I have ever programmed anything. I just saw doodle jump, and made a similar character called scribble, but focused on a 2d ship game. The art is similar because of the simplicity of the art.

This game, as someone already said, improved my skills greatly. I have many ideas, but had no clue how to begin. Thought I could start simple. Also, people seem to like similar addicting games on the mobile phone, so i gave it a try.

So, nobody likes it? It is quite fun to play and very addicting. I don't know.

I mean, it's not mind blowing but it's a good start. I think you should use different size sprites for the stars in relation to their distance, though.

The gameplay looks extremely simple, though. What gives it depth?

I normally lose before the game gets more hectic. More asteroids appear, different asteroids appear, and UFOs come out that require one to shoot them. There are several modes also. UFO attack is pretty fun as well. It is just a simply mobile game, but it is pretty jam pack with features.

And I'm not trying to disspirit you or anything but the logo and mascot are so clearly lifted from Doodle Jump to the point of distraction. I think it's pretty cool that you're actually making your first game while I just sit here and bitch about games but the look of it makes it kind of hard to take it seriously.

Hey are WP7 tiles interactive? I know they can be updated with live information. But can I adjust the levers in this pic for instance?

Now that you mention it, it does look a little similar.

Yup all of the tiles use the content on your device.

Background of Music + Video will display the art for the last song you listened to. Pictures takes a random picture I believe (not 100% sure).

I think he was asking if you see those 3 sliders, can you adjust the 3 sliders just touching the tile and moving it, kind of like a widget in android phones.

Went in to the Orange shop today to get my girlfriend setup with an HTC Mozart - she quite likes my Omnia but values battery life above the screen. Got through the credit check process but turns out the woman ahead of us got the last bloody WP7 phone they had.

Going to be interesting when we start getting usage stats - did they undership or is demand that high?

Just played with the HD7 in the O2 shop, it's actually a really nice device. Rehashed HD2 or not.

OS was snappy as hell, they predictably had the light theme on, looked good.

One thing seemed weird, I thought that pressing the search key in bing maps would search within maps. Instead it brings up the standard web search. There's a separate search key in the maps app.

How's the battery life with the Omnia?

Lasts the day on normal usage. I'd *like* a bit more, but it's not a deal breaker.
Doesn't sound bad. I know this sounds stupid, but I hate it when the USB port is not at the bottom. That's probably the only thing that really hate about the Omnia 7 and almost a deal breaker. When I come home just I like to put my phone on a nice dock on my desk and that's not possible with the Omnia 7. I wish more manufacturers would give us the option for an inductive charger like Palm.

That's by design, search will only work within that specific app, unless you do voice commands. You could always hit the home key then the search if you didn't want to use voice commands. I could be wrong, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought it would be similar to the People Hub. When you press the search button there it searches the contacts. Similar to the Marketplace, the search key will search the marketplace.

Seems they stuck a soft Search key in the maps app instead of utilising the search key. Seems like a weird decision.

Number 6
http://wp7gamers.blogspot.com/2010/10/top-10-xbla-ig-games-i-want-on-wp7_31.html

Another day another game I want ported to the Windows Phone 7.

Number 6: Catan

catan-xbla-02_425.jpg

Basically, WTF is it?
Resource management for land ownership. It's easy to learn, hard to master. Yes I went there with that cliché but it's soo true.

Why do I want it?
It's extremely fun but also challenging. AI will do me fine, give me online and it'd be bliss.

How could it be shit?
Its based on a board game. Board games are no longer cool. If you're shallow like that you'd think it's shit and thus get a nice big "fuck you" by me.

Watch the trailer and see why I want it.

Can someone with a device let me know if you can bring up the voice command (hold home) while you're in an application?

This one looks fun. What are the chances of these games actually being brought to the windows phone 7.

Catan is highly likely, it's already been ported to iOS, no reason for them not release it on wp7. Same as Pacman CE. Switchball is unlikely as iirc they are no longer around (their website is even no longer available). Trials based on the success of it, I'm guessing it might be a chance but currently they are working on a Wii game so who knows... Like I said I hope it happens :)

Yup. Just opened a new Excel document, got the voice prompt up and got it to load Facebook.

Thanks for the feedback.

Looks like this is what we'll have for fast app switching until they add their multitasking solution.

I'm going to give PC Connector a try:

http://www.pcconnector.com/

Will let you guys know if it's worth a purchase.

EDIT: It's not; not at the moment at least. Premise is excellent, but poor documentation ruins it. I could connect to my PC but couldn't see any folders - it's not clear whether this is a trial version limitation or not.

I don't think you can control live tiles. Not a bad idea, though.

Yeah that would pretty much make this the best OS ever IMO. Live updated tiles that are interactive? That would be would amazing. I hope Microsoft adds that later. I'm aware I can do 'Widgets' on Android but I like the look of 'Live Tiles' better.

you, me, and many others for sure. hopefully we'll get something concrete by week's end.
Venue Pro accessories have shown up on Amazon and Microsoft and TMobile are officially listing it on their sites, so hopefully we hear something as soon as tomorrow.

Early sales reports are looking good in the euro zone.
Wow. For some reason that's kinda hard to believe.

If this is true, then we might get CDMA phones sooner than expected.
MS_Nerd is reporting that Sprint will begin pre-orders for the much anticipated Sprint 7 Pro on Wednesday, December 8th.

Notice that's exactly 30 days after AT&T and T-Mobile begin to sell their stock, so either someone is making a good connection or we see a reasonable pattern here. It also sort of jives with the FCC certification recently that suggests a 7 Pro release is getting quite close. Combined with Sprint and Microsoft being cozy recently at Sprint's Developer Conference and we think CDMA D-Day may be fast approaching.

Some guys at the XDA-Developers Forums confirmed that the Omnia 7 doesn't have a MicroSD card slot and it looks like it doesn't use many other Samsung components. :lol

Screen: Samsung
SoC: Qualcomm
Controller: JMicron
NAND flash: SanDisk (wtf?)

I think it's pretty obvious that the hardware certification was extremely limited to get the platform out by the holidays.

Hopefully Microsoft gets on the ball and gets the OS working on more than just the first gen Snapdragons in short order.

Remember the Samsung Taylor prototypes/dev phones? Microsoft built them. Samsung had nothing to do with it. My guess is that Microsoft sold the components as a bundle for a good price to the manufacturers.

I think on that note it's interesting to mention that Texas Instruments wants to join the WP7 party.

One week :) Wish AT&T would put something on their website

Shit like this makes me wonder how much AT&T gives a fuck and in return how much support they'll throw behind the platform.

I need an Australian one, but as the phone doesn't support 3G on the biggest provider here (Telstra) then I guess I'm importing and praying that it doesn't go faulty.

I hope this isn't only my need to get my hands on this phone, but what are your guys thoughts about importing the phone instead of waiting for it to come out in the States.
I can't imagine it being much cheaper here unlocked (I already have a plan with T-mobile though I only have an old flip phone atm).

Just heard that the Netflix app is up! Can anyone with a device check it out if possible and give impressions? :D

I must say, the US is going to have a great catalog of apps for launch (though there will definitely be crap apps, can't really do anything about that).

At least every app will have a demo so we can test before we buy. Hope this improves quality and developers can make decent money to make better apps/games.
