Dumb question: can I still install software on a HTC HD7, or does everything have to go through the store?
I still have a license for the IGO gps software for WM, would this work?

Come on, the OP isn't that bad. It's the first thing in the FAQ.

It's not backward compatible with WinMo.

people over at xda are saying t-mobile have got their stock in of the Omnia 7, people getting their upgrades should get theirs tomorrow.

I hope buymobilephones send mine out this week...

Well they said they can only source stock from t-mobile directly so I dunno if t-mobile fulfil all their orders first before sending or what... Really want my phone lol.

What a messy launch. Surely they could have had the phones ready and tested before the launch date instead of this carry on, I'd be mad at the way the Euro launch went if I were microsoft

I wonder who's to blame for fucking up the launch so badly (or at least, as it stands now it seems like it will be a clusterfuck). MS? The carriers? Manufacturers? All of them in some way?

Hopefully in the next few days AT&T gets all of it figured out so they can be ready for launch day at least.
Seems like they all underestimated demand.

@Irdawood Hi The delivery isn't definite, we were originally told second week of November but they are now saying it may be 3rd week
:lol it's never coming

I think the US launch might be just as bad.

The only phone I've seen available is the HD7 through Amazon (which is now back ordered).

This is supposed to launch on Monday, right? Right?!?

:'(

It's a shame nowhere else has deals as good as them otherwise i'd cancel and order elsewhere in a heartbeat lol but t-mobile and orange are sooo expensive in comparison and even they have limited stock. At this rate it'll be Christmas before I have one :P

Number 5 (port chance = probable imo)

http://wp7gamers.blogspot.com/2010/11/top-10-xbla-ig-games-i-want-on-wp7.html

Number 5: Miner Dig Deep

Basically, WTF is it?
You're a miner and you have to dig deep(hurr hurr)-er and deeper to collect various precious things from the ground. Watch out for cave-ins and make sure you have enough fuel in your lamp. It's addictive and simple.

Why do I want it?
It's a mini project you can always get out and have a tinker whenever you have the time. The more resources you collect you can sell them to upgrade your lamp or buy equipment that'll allow you to dig deeper. It's a simple premise that is executed with a perfect risk reward system/

How could it be shit?
Maybe on a smaller screen it'll be harder to get a clear view of your surrounding path you created. Maybe a zoom could be implemented.

Watch the trailer and see why I want it.

I guess we can't recommend the Trophy anymore. I'd even say that everyone should stay the fuck away from the HTC 7 Trophy.

Not all Windows Phones created equal? Samsung Omnia 7 loads games much faster that HTC 7 Trophy
The case of the mysterious backwards HTC Trophy
New HTC 7 Trophy Screen Defect Reported; Recall Planned?
More bad HTC – Some HTC 7 Trophy screens of low quality

If you live in Europe and want a cheap WP7, get the LG Optimus 7.

Wow. That's even making me think twice about getting the Mozart next year, might consider the Omnia instead for WP7.

Has buymobilephones got the Venue Pro in stock? they seem to be selling that as well, but I'm guessing that's not out yet too... :/

I want the Omnia because of that sexy screen but the Venue Pro looks amazing too. While I have the chance I could cancel my order IF I wanted.

Microsoft speaks on micro-SD and Windows Phone storage expansion

Posted on October 29, 2010 by Paul Thurrott

And it’s unfortunately not very good news.

According to Microsoft’s Charlie Kindel, the company does not support end users upgrading the storage in their Windows Phones with micro-SD. This is a carrier feature, and if the carrier is going to sell such a device, the intention is that it is they, and not the end user, that adds, tests, and supports that configuration.

The issue, apparently, is the micro-SD card format. The cards are unreliable and inconsistent, even between batches made by the same manufacturer, and in Microsoft’s tests, there was no way to “certify” that any would work properly. “Even with high end cards, we have seen wild differences in IO and performance,” he said. “There is just no standardization there.” Put simply, if you expand the storage in a compatible Windows Phone device, it may work, and it may not.

“In most cases, users will have issues,” he told me. “Most cards are of poor quality, and there’s no way we can control that or recommend a certain type of card. If you happen to get a good card, with the right performance and IO characteristics, it will work reliably. But even a bad card will appear to work at first, and the device will boot.”

That, of course, is where the fun starts. If you have a bad card, you’ll notice horrible, unreliable performance, slow app boot times and performance, lock-ups, and random reboots.

“It’s not intended to be user serviceable,” he said. “The carrier does it and supports it.”

As for the “why’s” behind the design, Kindel said that the alternative was two file systems, where the user would have to choose where to put stuff, and micromanage file management. That is not what Microsoft wants for Windows Phone.

Kindel’s advice is for users to check with the carrier first. And Microsoft is going to provide me with AT&T contact information so I can get a statement from them as well. For now, at least, it looks like those that wish to expand the storage in a Focus or other compatible device are on their own.

So the Pro is a Trophy slapped on with a HTC Touch Pro II Keyboard? Much like the Touch Pro and Diamond series?

How would that be immune to the production problems and apparently hardware inferiority of the other WP7 phones?

Hopefully by waiting until Q1 to come out, Sprint will miss all of the early adoption problems.

Miner dig deep would be cool. :)
You should check out I Dig It, then. I'm not sure if it's out yet on WP7, but it was already announced for WP7, and is easily one of the best iPhone games out there. Same basic gameplay as Miner Dig Deep / Motherload (flash game).

Mixed news for us Venue Pro faithfuls:

I just called my local Microsoft store to ask if they had demo units on display (They do!)

While I had the representative on the phone I asked about the Dell Venue Pro…

She told me directly (without hesitation) It will not be available at launch, but it SHOULD be available by the end of November!!!

By far the most specific info I’ve heard so far. Fingers crossed for a happy holiday!

PS. The Microsoft stores will carry ALL available handsets from both ATT and Tmobile!

From http://www.windowsphone7.com/backst...ardware-phones_dell-venue-pro-end-of-november

(Have to register)

Also a Dell Venue Pro semi-hands on preview.
http://usingwindowshomeserver.com/2010/11/03/windows-phone-7-executive-briefing-event-los-angeles/ (Scroll through pages to see his? impressions of the VPro)

Seems Amazing.

Also confirms Dell and Microsoft stores, and perhaps Dell store partners, will be the ONLY source for the Venue Pro.

I have a bad feeling about the Venue Pro and getting/using it here in Australia. For one, the largest telco doesn't run the same frequency for 3G data as it does. Hopefully that's not too big a deal, but it still means there's smaller chance of it coming out here than if they did support it.

Not a single store in my college town or my home town have the Omnia. The website store is out of stock. The phonecall store is out of stock.

fuuuuuuuuuuu

Good news for MS and Samsung, but damn it Orange, get these Omnia's out, or SFR's getting my money!

Sorry, but why do I have a feeling the NA launch is gonna be a cluster fuck of epic proportions? I just don't see this all getting sorted out till mid to late January after the holiday's are over. It's gonna be a ugly bumpy ride until then sadly, and this isn't just in NA. It's gonna be this way for the whole world sadly.

yet solid sales, at least in germany.

http://www.n-tv.de/technik/HTC-HD7-bei-O2-ausverkauft-article1817471.html

Summary:

HTC HD7 sold out at o2 Germany
Deutsche Telekom has preorders exceeding their expectations

Speaking to a number of local AT&T store managers, they all expect it Monday.
No one has any details on price though.....

They said I can keep my "unlimited" iPhone data plan though. We'll see.

Do they not realize the venue pro is the phone most people want?

I am getting really worried about being able to find one of these phones (and I live 1.5 hrs from dell's main headquarters in round rock)

Lot of hype for the Dell phone but it's just too big for me, and I really don't need the keyboard at all.
Screen looks to be beautiful though.

HTC Surround for me. The other two AT&T phones look too cheap.

Who are you telling.

The Dell phone leaks singlehandedly started the Windows Phone hype for me. I've waited past the Droid Pro, Samsung Epic, and the G2 for this phone.

if dell doesn't spill the beans soon i might just pre-order the hd7 from wirefly for $529 shipped. i worry that dell will price this at around $700 which would explain why t-mobile isn't carrying it in their stores.

I so want one in pink!

Btw. is there any information on mozart being crappy like the trophy? I might buy that one to have until the next wave hits in the spring.

I'm looking at a Windows Phone 7 as my entry into the world of smartphones. I currently have no reason to choose any one provider of the rest. With that in mind, which phone is the best? It sounds like the Omnia and Focus are. How much would I be looking at a month for ~500+ texts, ~500+ minutes and unlimited internet?

Dell Venue Pro looks the best if you can wait. Otherwise the Focus if you're in the US as the Omnia is an import. Venue Pro is T-Mobile. Focus is AT&T. I have no knowledge of US prices for plans though.

I've heard no reports about the Mozart having the same issues the Trophy had and both mine and my brothers are as smooth as all hell.

I wanted the Trophy for the supposedly better camera, but upon hearing it was shit went with the Omnia. But apart from the camera it should be fine, I haven't heard of it having any Trophy-like problems.
