Thanks. Seems to be the iPad 2 GPU.

I still don't understand what his point is. Windows Phone needs a GPU on par with iPad 2 to be able to run halfway decent games? That's bullshit, because there's currently no mobile gaming system that has this hardware (except the iPad 2, of course) and you can find halfway decent games on any of these.

Mobile games in particular work so great because they're not built to be fascinating technical achievements, but because they're designed to work on mobile platforms. It's ridiculous to even assume that there's that much hardware power needed to develop a great game for any platform. Is he a developer of Windows Phone 7 games and disappointed with the hardware? If not; there's no reason for him to even post such a statement.

We have lots of games, lots of rubbish, but we have excellent ones as well. Devs are complaining about the tools given by Microsoft (or at least they were), not about the hardware itself.

Phone games won't always be (and already aren't) only little pick up and play flash-type games. There are real console-like 3D gaming experiences hitting iOS. Games running console/PC engines like Rage and UE3.

On another note, all existing XNA games are 30fps and it is very noticeably after experiencing them on iOS. I don't know if this is changing in Mango, but it'd be VERY nice.

We do need better GPUs, and we do need programmable shaders. I think we'll get them (if we don't see a phone with the new qualcomm chip in the EVO 3D in the next 12 months I will be very surprised), I just don't think it will become a part of the minimum requirements. One of their pushes is to get into the entry level.

Without a delay. I'm impressed.
Just got the update.

Funny how they can get an update relating to "fraudulent third party certificates" out so quickly.

Also just got it.

Can you imagine the nightmare they would have to deal with if they try to block such update and someone phone got hack? Funny how suddenly they don't need months and months to test this update to make sure it works on their network.

Oh, yeah, I thought those that use Chevron Updater won't be able to update pass No Do.

edit: well it seems they are blocking this update ... sigh

That's not a surprise at all. I wouldn't really call it blocking though.

I think we just need to accept what the process is and realize that not all carriers are going to be ready to push updates on the same date. Hopefully NoDo came with some growing pains and the testing process at the carriers has smoothed a bit.

I suppose.. oh well my phone is unlocked and unbranded so don't really care what they do. I really do wish Microsoft themselves would move quicker on the phone.

Yeah, hopefully it's a sign that they're getting their act together though, instead of being a one-time thing where Microsoft overruled carriers or something because it was just a security fix.

if i buy a used, unlocked samsung focus can i just put my sim card into it and be done with it? or does it need to be activated? if it needs to be activated what is that process like?

The annoying part is that Apple clearly does not play by these rules. They are about to push out an update themselves and they are able to tell you EXACTLY when you'll get it. On every carrier.

you'd really think microsoft would have more clout with these kind of things. i can see why apple can now make the rules but it didn't seem that way when the iphone was first released. perhaps i've misread what the situation was like back then.

Brotkasten, I think you once showed me how I can make my Audiobooks show up as Podcasts in Zune. I've purchased some new ones (on CD), have ripped them to my hard drive and am failing to make them appear as a Podcast. :/

Change the category to podcasts and the book will show up in the podcast section.

Having a strange issue and I think my WP7 Focus is the culprit. For the last few weeks, I'd been noticing that there were emails marked as read in my personal Gmail inbox, but I hadn't read them--I actually missed a few emails because of this. I thought it was related to my Google Chrome mail-checker extensions, as I also have a Google Apps work email on my phone and that account is fine.

However, after paying more attention, it seems to be WP7 related. I no longer use any mail checking extension in Chrome, but all of my email that I receive overnight is marked as read. I have to go in and check my mail, finding that anything sent after 10 (I work early, usually passed out by 10) at night is marked as read by morning.

I'm going to delete/re-add the account, but has anyone had this before??

Might want to think of the possibility that someone is snooping on you. I've had that happen before it and it turns out it was because my ex wife was checking my emails.

Apple's "bug" fix update is out. And this issue is newer and way more insignificant than the certificate issue which MS' patch is set to fix.

Just in case it wasn't abundantly clear that Apple plays on a whole different set of rules as everybody else in the industry.

Right click on the File/Album and then "Edit", right? I can only change the genre there and that doesn't change anything unfortunately. :/

Yes, sorry. Change the genre to podcast and copy the audiobook into your podcast folder. I just tried it with a song and it worked.

Creepy. Gonna give it one more night and if it happens again, I'll change my pw. I just deleted/readded the account.

On my last 40MB of space, I knew 8gb would be a problem but I can't even fit all the music I want (I culled a lot from my library)... Might start pissing me off soon..

Also now that they NoDo honeymoon period is over;

I still want and hope mango will deliver (other than stuff I already know about e.g. Multitasking);

Stream videos off my home server
Zune video marketplace streams for videos I buy
Flash for my mobile video live streams and porn needs
A way to easily upload pics from phone to imgur etc. so I can link my pics on gaf
Facebook live tile and toast notifications
Ability to use MS points in marketplace for apps
Easily switch between live profiles as I can with xbox (saves state for each profile e.g. tiles on screen, contacts)

I'll think of more, and I have more but it's late and I'm going bed. These are off the top of my head.

Just got a Weather Channel App update and it looks different. The background use to not be the same as the weather conditions did it ie if it's sunny out you get a sunny background?

Interesting change I guess... but I think I'll stick to the plain background as the weather based ones make it little hard to see so far. While the Weather Channel is the best weather app for me, it is a bit annoying that the forecast details are still only in Fahrenheit while everything else can be Celsius.

You could infer at the most it was 2.5 million.

Yes, that's pretty much what one can gather that it's around 2.5 millions since it's 1 million less than Samsung own smartphone. It's rather depressing actually ...

http://wmpoweruser.com/canalys-around-2-4-million-windows-phones-shipped-in-q1-2011/

And then you have Brandon Watson making sort of snarky comments (I think it's really uncall for) about people using "unofficial" mean to update the phone. People went that route because of how poorly Windows Phone team handle the whole update debacles. They really feel like they are doing such a great job ... someone need to remind them that they are doing worst than Samsung OS...

What the hell? Now my live tile just says "The Weather Channel" and that's it.

Edit: NM, there we go. Wish they'd actually have release notes.

Wow, cheapest WP7 yet and a 32GB model. Half a year too late, but better than never, I guess. Oh, and it came before the Unicorn, aka Verizon WP7.

My local At&t have Focus and LG for $49.99 during the past month (not sure if it is just promotion).

As for Venue Pro ... I was excited about getting one until I read all the complain on the forum and how poorly Dell is taking care of the problem. As far as I know they have yet to release new firmware and the phone are still plaque with problems.

I would wait for some reviews before jumping in, but it is one nice looking phone.

I'm IN.

I purchased my brand new Samsung Focus in Canada for $350, no contract. It is locked to Rogers, I unlocked it for $10, updated to the newest OS and works flawless.

Is there anyway to link your hotmail account without importing the contacts from it? I have my email and gamertag associated to it but also few hundreds of contacts which I do not want.

Any suggestions?

Go into Settings > Email & Accounts, then tap the Hotmail one. You should have a checkbox for contacts, email, and calendar.

I don't get that option with Hotmail (well, it's labelled as Windows Live). Never have. I do with my Google Mail account though.

Edit: It appears if you click Add Account > Windows Live, it will automatically sync all Windows Live account info -- email, contacts, calendar and photos. If you just want email, click Add An Account > Other Account then type your hotmail info.

How are you finding it so far?
