They did promise that I could keep my unlimited plan from back when I got the iPhone 3G. (which managed to slow to Hal it's original speed with each "update")
I'd blame the carriers, they just don't care about these things. That said, Microsoft really should be pushing it through other retail sources as well.Cj70 said:It was the same situation in the UK prior to (and after) the launch. Many stores had no idea about the phones and the vast majority had no stock at all. Many of the phone companies didn't have the phones on their websites for days after the launch too and some of the phones have only just started coming into stock (Omnia 7).
Very messy stuff, thought microsoft would be on top of everything but obviously not.
Jewbacca said:It seems like they are just giving these half-assed "I guess we owe you one Microsoft.." offerings to us.
Will the phone take off? I was optimistic, but no one is going to help Microsoft these days but Microsoft. Fucking Ballmer and his fat shiny head.

more like just ballmer. i mean look at the windows 7 phone os its not bad considering the time frame they had and the fact that they had to scrap windows mobile and start over. also in the world filled with icons its nice to see something different.PG2G said:I'm sure if Samsung and HTC could, they would just reuse the internals of phones like the Galaxy S, the G2, or the Desire HD. I don't think there's anyone to blame here but Microsoft.

Is Microsoft's position on SD cards FUD? I'm looking for a review of Andrioid phones that use SD cards for apps so I can see if any problems with extreme speed drops were discovered...shantyman said:As I understand it, MS only allowed this functionality at the behest of the carriers. i would not expect them to start putting slots externally. They want a a single file system and having an SD card easily removable will cause problems.

App developers say their top new platforms for 2011 will be Android, Windows Phone 7, and iPadIts no surprise to learn that Android may see the biggest growth next year, but its nice to have actual numbers from developers. 29 percent of developers said they would bring new apps to Android next year, while Windows Phone 7 and the iPad tied, drawing 20 percent of developer interest each.
AT&T is not taking pre-orders for Windows Phone 7 phonesHeres one more one more proof that the stock is probably going to be low next week. According to AT&Ts Customer Care on twitter the company will only sell Windows Phone 7 devices on a first come first serve basis next Monday. I initially heard that only the Samsung Focus will be available but Golf1052 commented yesterday that his local AT&T store will also have the HTC 7 Surround in stock. Hopefully this turns out to be true.
Top 10: XBLA & IG games I want on wp7
Another day another game I want ported to the Windows Phone 7. We know more PopCap games are on the way (read the full interview here) so here's hoping this one is next!
Number 4: Peggle
Basically, what is it?
Shoot a ball down and try to hit as many pegs as possible. Clear the orange pegs before you run out of balls and you pass the level. Timing is essential and there is a moving barrel (?) that if you get your ball in it you get an extra ball. Later levels add different characters each with there special abilities, for example, multiball.
Why do I want it?
Anybody who has tried Peggle (yes I'm making this grand statement) loves it. It has everything you need to make a good game. Fun factor, skill and some luck to add to the excitement.
How could it be bad?
Well it's been ported to iDevices and is great, well it's been ported to just about everything and still it is great. So had can that make it bad? It can't. I'm just making that statement so you know it how well it translates to all different platforms and I didn't want to leave this bit blank
Watch the trailer and see why I want it.
Itll be available in AT&T Corp stores and online @att.com/wireless, sold on a first come first serve basis on 11/8.
My thumbs are itching to play this. For those who don't know Platformance was a really hard, and I mean really hard platform game on the Xbox Indie channel. It was however on of the better Indie games, and now Windows Phone 7 gamers have a chance to play it on the john. Everything is the same as it's bigger brother but it controls with a virtual stick. It looks great, check out the video demo after the jump.

Eariler today we saw a tweet from Daniel Egan announcing that the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace is now open to all registered developers. Previously, they were only accepting submissions from about 2000 developers who applied for early approval. The idea was to keep it managed for a while to make sure the app approval and update process would run smoothly. It's a good thing they did, too because as early-adopters, we noticed a few bugs with updates to things like the HTC Hub apps. Hopefully all of that is fixed now and the Marketplace app submissions can proceed full speed!
What does this mean for the rate at which we'll see new apps appearing in the Marketplace? During the testing phase, we saw about a hundred new apps per workday. Now that the system is presumably automated, we expect to see a higher rate of app approval. How many new apps do you think will start appearing per day now that the Marketplace is ready for everybody?

CarneyVale sounds great
Lack of multiplayer (except on single device) in Uno is disappointing
In a rather dramatic move, Dell has announced next week it will start moving all 25,000 of its employees away from Blackberries and onto their own smartphones, mainly the Dell Venue Pro.
The company had apparently been working for some time with Microsoft planning the move, expects to save 25% of their mobile communication costs by doing so, mainly by getting rid of RIMs expensive servers.
Soon after Dell is planning to take its campaign on the road, aggressively marketing their mobile hardware and services to other companies.
"Clearly in this decision we are competing with RIM, because were kicking them out," the computer makers chief financial officer, Brian Gladden, said in an interview.
"We actually had a conversation last night around creating a site on eBay where we can actually sell these BlackBerry devices" that employees return, Mr. Gladden said.
In many ways the move was unexpected, as Microsofts new OS focuses mainly on consumers.
Paul Bryan, Microsofts senior director for product management for Windows Phone 7, said "We want our phones to be appealing to individuals, and people have needs that span personal and work,"
RIM, who with falling market share has been looking increasingly vulnerable, was unavailable to comment.
Yeah, no reason to buy Uno for me now.outsidah said:Wow that sucks. The iPhone UNO even does that.
damn you dell. i want my venue pro. i got my cash in hand, take it. or gimme a job, anything to get that phone. The Abominable Snowman said:So Dell might be not selling the Venue Pro through TMobile, but they're going to aggressively support and market it it seems. Looks like they're going to war with RIM's Blackberry.
If they take this kind of marketing on the road, I can see it being successful for Dell. Especially if Dell sells the Venue Pro through their retail partners.
MS marketing seems to be focusing on Kinect rather than this phone series sadly.Brettison said:God this launch is a cluster fuck and a half. EU people can't even get fucking phones, US carriers seem clueless on wtf is going down, AT&T are being their normal bitch selves unless it's Apple related with no preorders, and MS just seems to be like fuck it everything will just sort it self out over the next few months.
*SIGH*.....
i've seen a lot of WP7 advertisements (mainly from watching the WS). Haven't seen any Kinect ads though.claviertekky said:MS marketing seems to be focusing on Kinect rather than this phone series sadly.
Yes I completely agree, I hope that the fact that they are giving out 25000 Venue Pros for free would mean they have, or are planing to, manufacture a whole lot of these. It would really suck for everyone if the phone launches and theres not enough phones to meet demand after this.thirty said:damn you dell. i want my venue pro. i got my cash in hand, take it. or gimme a job, anything to get that phone.

Mobility Digest: Windows Phone SP 1 Coming In JanuaryJust yesterday in the comments I noted that Ill be reaching out to David Pogue when the first Service Pack comes out in mid-January (with copy and paste, turn-by-turn directions, task switching and plugins for Flash and Silverlight). That was based on a rumor first published by MSNerd. Today we have reconfirmation of that rumor. In a blog post from a director at MS:
Critics have commented on the lack of specific features like copy & paste and lack of 100s of thousands of applications. And while both are true, copy & paste will be available as an update in a matter of weeks (early 2011) and as for applications, its just a matter of time. Developing Windows Phone 7 apps is as easy as developing any .NET/Silverlight application.
If the rumors hold true, thats not just a copy and paste update, thats a Bing navigaton, task switching, Flash/Silverlight plug-in enabling update. So for the critics out there, youre on notice you dont have a lot of time to point to these issues so use them while you can. Now get me my phone so I can start a new countdown for SP 1.
Engadget: Dell offering free Venue Pros to employees in exchange for their BlackBerrysYou'd think working for a big tech company would have its gadget-related perks and in Dell's case that's very much true. The big PC vendor has demonstrated its commitment to building up its own smartphone services by offering to trade employees' old and busted BlackBerry devices for the shiny new hotness that is the Venue Pro. If everyone takes up Round Rock on its offer, there'll be 25,000 RIM smartphones looking for new homes soon, along with a sprightly start to Windows Phone 7's time in the limelight. The Wall Street Journal reports this'll cut Dell's mobile communications bill by a quarter, thanks to no longer having to support BlackBerry servers, while also noting that Android variants will be made available in the future as well. Where there's Lightning, there's gotta be Thunder, right?

I seriously hope that this is not the case. How does Dell expect this to sell well if its more expensive than an iPhone? Also this would be bad news for me because, I'm not really interested in any of the other phones, 700+ sounds like alot of money for a phone. I don't want to be stuck with my old flip phone! =(thirty said:i don't know. they'll probably sell the phones at an outrageous price like $700+.
i just wish they'd come out with a price and date so i can make a decision as to buy the venue pro or just go with the HD7, which i can pre-order now from wirefly for $529 including 2nd day fedex shipping.
Developers say they are most interested in Android, Windows Phone 7, and the iPad as platforms for their mobile apps in 2011, according to a report titled "State of the Apps Industry Snapshot" released today by Millennial Media. The firm, known for its mobile ad network, worked together with technology analysis site Digiday and Wall Street analyst Jordan Rohan from Stifel Nicolaus to procure the data. The team surveyed app developers, publishers, and advertisers in the most recent quarter to learn their plans for next year.
Both publishers and developers have grown their cross-platform application development this year and plan to further diversify in 2011. Android, the iPad, Windows Mobile, and Symbian saw the most significant increases from 2009. In the image above, Chart A represents mobile platforms the participants are developing for in 2010 while Chart B shows new app platforms they plan to support in 2011.
As you can see, the iPhone has been the number one platform of choice in 2010, followed by Android, the iPad, RIM, and Windows Mobile. Meanwhile, Android, Windows Phone 7, and the iPad are projected to get the most attention for new apps next year.
Given its rapidly growing market share, it's not very surprising that Android might see the biggest growth next year. Mountain View's platform could very well overtake Cupertino's in 2011 if these numbers hold, especially given that Millennial noted Apple (as well as RIM) saw a year-over-year decrease in developer support. Apple is currently dominating the tablet space, so the attention given the iPad is no surprise. Windows Phone excitement, however, is a little more eyebrow-raising since it's not yet a tested platform. Could it be that Microsoft is still the best at rallying developers, developers, developers, even in the mobile space?
On the other side of the spectrum, we have Palm, with the weakest developer interest, at 4 percent. The ailing Symbian platform was not much higher at 6 percent. Nokia is switching to MeeGo so the latter isn't a shocker, but the former implies that HP is not inspiring much confidence with its webOS decisions.
