I seriously hope that this is not the case. How does Dell expect this to sell well if its more expensive than an iPhone? Also this would be bad news for me because, I'm not really interested in any of the other phones, 700+ sounds like alot of money for a phone. I don't want to be stuck with my old flip phone! =(
Dell just doesn't seem to be targeting this at consumers, more towards enterprise. Price is the only explanation I can think of as to why the carriers are choosing not to carry the venue pro.

What's not to like about the Samsung Focus? It's the thinnest phone, best looking screen (better than HD7), one of the best cameras and the most responsive of all of the devices. It's looking to be the killer phone (though the Dell Venue looks hot of course).

Battery life is supposedly pretty crappy. The case too is plastic which might seem cheap, but doesn't personally bother me.

Plus it's only 8 gigs stock.

It's weird cause it's got the best screen of the USA bunch, but cheapy looking construction, extremely meh battery life (maybe the screen's doing ?), and small storage.

I wish I could just blend the Samsung Focus with an HTC phone. :lol

And if its anything like its Android Galaxy counterparts the battery also takes FOREVER to charge, and there are weird read/write issues that slow the phone down. Plus there is the GPS issue, which I'm not sure how MS would handle, if its the manufacturer's bugs. Who handles the firmware upgrade then? Samsung is notoriously slow at fw updates.

The battery life on all of the recent uberPhones is pretty crappy.

I'm actually going to seriously consider battery life as a major factor for my next phone, and I think apple is prioritizing that. Android phones suck at it, and wp7 doesn't seem much better.

As a heavy user, I have to charge my phone twice daily. Ugh.

Looks like the Venue Pro rumors were true.
Solid info here folks. #DellVenuePro availability, price to be announced this Monday. Wouldn't have been too difficult to guess at it though

It's the best available, but I'd guess you'd still charge it every night.

Meanwhile, my POS Nokia gets charged maybe once or twice a week.
If you used your smartphone the same way you used the nokia (low brightness, no data, only checking to answer calls and reply messages) then it'll last ages too. The newest smartphones have pretty long standby times.

Exactly, I spent the weekend in furthest place from civilization you can find in France, which meant no data syncing etc, and I didn't have to charge my Hero for 36 hours (despite typing and sending a couple hundred texts).

But back in town.. I charge it twice a day ><

Praise the lord, an announcement of an announcement! But at least its solid information at this point instead of everything being TBA, fingers crossed for >700 pricepoint, and Mid-late November release date.

Sure, but the expectation is that they'll get you through a day of moderate use. Most Android phones and my iPhone 3GS can do that, but the Samsung Focus seems even worse.

Look what arrived in the post this morning.. :D

Welcome to the party!

Lime green eh? I changed mine to the company colours - red - pretty quickly, but I'm on the lookout for something new. Just wish they had an RGB selector there!

I don't think it's better than the iPhone. Just different. I, for one, like the design and UI in WP7 much more than iOS, but that's just a personal preference. Doesn't mean it's better.

Anyone had their phone require a reboot?

Every app (not hub) that I started would crash almost instantly. Reboot fixed it though.

It's definitely not "better" than the iPhone, in the long run it may prove to be the better platform but certainly not at launch, no.

I'm on pins and needles waiting for Monday morning when I can finally dump of my iPhone 3G (a.k.a. the slowest smartphone on the planet) and get my Focus.

My girlfriend just bought her HTC Mozart [she's more interested in a longer battery than a better screen] so will get some impressions on that tomorrow. She would have had it a week ago, but the Orange shop in my town sold their last bloody one just as her credit check passed.

I'm glad that Microsoft is stepping it up. Last Windows phone I had was the T-Mobile Wing, an it was beyond terrible.

Ugh....

I just can't decide.....

I want the focus cause of the screen but.... IDK like the HTC phone has better battery life and 16 gigs even if the screen isn't super amoled and has that random speaker... I like the look better of the HTC too...

but that screen on the focus.... ugh....

I think the Surround has the worst battery life of all phones.

Some info on Copy/Paste and Xbox Live bans.

Although we're not even sure how one would begin modifying files on Windows Phone 7 to circumvent Xbox Live Leaderboards, Achievements or use pirated software, it looks like Microsoft is already thinking about it. Just in case.

In a new build of WP7 (not yet released), Conflipper (who is still very much in retirement, so don't get your hopes up) has found an interesting file that says:

This phone has been banned from Xbox LIVE for violating the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use. To protect the Xbox LIVE service and its members, Microsoft does not provide details about phone bans. There is no recourse for Terms of Use violations.

This is similar to what happened on the Xbox 360 in 2009 when nearly 1 million users were permanently banned for evidently modifying their Xbox hardware or using pirated software. Presumably, Microsoft is taking preventive action for when XDA and others start digging into the OS, looking to modify their new mobile OS. In that sense, this is no surprise. On the other hand, it is interesting to know that MS has a system nearly in place to react to such a scenario. So take warning gamers, as once you are banned, it's for evah.

Other notable finds were references in Internet Explorer for copy and paste:

|Cut|Copy|Paste|Encoding|Print Preview||

"Cuts the selection and puts it on the Clipboard."

"Inserts the Clipboard contents at the insertion point."

Of course we know copy and paste are coming soon, so this is just more evidence that the feature is already in the works. Sweet.

win7 GAF help me!! IS there a way to give facebook notifications a sound/vibre the same as what heppens when you get an email?

PS. LOVING ma hd7 :D

Thurrott is testing a new class 4 MicroSD card in his Focus.

Prompted by the controversy over whether a Samsung Focus (and, thus, any Windows Phone, presumably) can utilize additional storage via microSD expansion, I decided to give it a shot.

You may recall that Microsoft said they would not support this upgrade, and that its own testing, verified by others, suggests that this upgrade is fraught with reliability and performance issues. But AT&T has said explicitly that the upgrade is supported and will work just fine. I guess it comes down to whom you trust.

The rules here are simple. If my upgrade works, this proves nothing because others may do the same thing and fail. If my upgrade fails, Microsoft is right, and AT&T is wrong. There’s nothing like a definitive answer. :)

I find this funny as well. Granted I DO talk on the phone, but I know I'd never talk in a day more than an hour on the phone, but I could easily see myself blowing through wifi browsing in a day. There's almost an hour difference between the two as well.

Makes me wonder as I said above if the Super AMOLED screen is the issue in draining the battery. You'll notice in the chart all the Samsung phones with those screens are all in the bottom half of browsing for both 3g ad Wifi. Sort of a telling sign IMO.

When I see the screen comparisons though in video form though the Samsung Phones stick out IMMEDIATELY. I mean any casual observer could notice how much better the screen is when put side by side compared to say the HTC or Moto android/win phone 7 that have released as of late.

The thing that fucks with me though is the fact that despite the battery life I could probably live with the Focus battery, and the form factor isn't my preference yet I'd live. The kicker is the fact that despite all of this the HTC Surround has double the storage for what will end up being the same price. Upgrading seems possible for the Focus, but as we've seen in this thread nobody is sure wtf kind of card to buy to keep up with the system. Plus you know I'd have to buy a fuck'n card when I've already spent 200 bones on the fuck'n phone + tax and activation.

Why the fuck can't HTC just put regular AMOLEDs on their phones to make this easy on me (even if it's not Samsung Super kind I'd be happy!) ??!?!?!?! :lol :lol :lol :lol

Okay I guess I never quite got this before, but I was watching the Samsung Focus hardware review over at Pocket Now which went over the stuff behind the battery cover.

Now supposedly the deal is you can add in a micro sd card, but the 8 gigs is preinstalled into the actual phone internals? So you'd just be adding to the 8 gigs NOT replacing the 8 gigs, and it just combines all of the storage into one big partition. So like if I got a 16 gig card I'd actually end up with 24 gigs.

For some odd reason I was thinking the Focus had no internal memory, and everyone was just running on an 8 gig micro sd card that you could replace if you were adventurous or geeks like us GAFers. Then it wiped everything back to stock.

PS: On a side note despite being plastic IDK Pocket Now's review made the device still look pretty slick. Didn't seem to look and feel as cheap plasticy as it really is in that review compared to what I've seen heard else where. Definitely didn't look as cheap and all plasticy as the LG Quantum that's also coming on AT&T.

OMFG that screen is DA BOMB YO.... *battery cries out! *

I noticed this in one of the hardware reviews, too. A few of the sites with info on the phone list the spec as 8GB internal memory, with up to 32GB expandable flash.

Why would they have the empty flash slot, if the phone wouldn't support it? I hope Thurrott's findings are positive.

The phone definitely supports it, AT&T has confirmed as much.

Well..... AT&T and MS disagree on this... but it's obviously there for a reason.... lol

My revelation was the fact that I didn't know the Focus had internal memory. I guess I thought it was just an 8 gig micro sd card that you could upgrade to a large size if needed. I didn't know the 8 gigs was internal and the micro sd card would just add and combine with the stock storage. Makes me think about getting a smaller card then since I get the preinstalled memory as well.

The phone and operating system supports it. Microsoft just isn't encouraging it because they can't really guarantee a quality experience due to the varying performance characteristics of MicroSD cards. Basically, they are covering their asses.

Number 3!

http://wp7gamers.blogspot.com/2010/11/top-10-xbla-ig-games-i-want-on-wp7_06.html

Number 3: Castle Crashers

Basically, what is it?
In the mold of the old school arcade brawlers, Castle Crashers just packs it in with content, from levels to weapons to characters. It is the best of the arcade brawlers. With character building you keep on coming back for more to level up your character and then take play online with co-op or in one of the many vs modes.

Why do I want it?
Read above on "what it is" and imagine all of that while on the go/toilet and now you understand why I want it.

How could it be bad?
Being in the top 3 shows how much I love this game, but they can make it less great by removing multiplayer. They'd be silly to that, but I'll worry about that later, first just tell me you are doing a port!

Watch the trailer and see why I want it.

@rbahl2004 Hi, we are hoping to have them in the 3rd week of November, but we are in the hands of T Mobile for supply.

Get the feeling T Mobile are just fobbing them off and giving them no information about when they'll get stock. At this rate I'll never get my Omnia 7 :( must be either great demand or stupidly low stock levels

what.the.fuck.

Pissing me off now. My impatience is slowly turning to anger, this company can go fuck itself.

Shall I cancel my order?...

I can say from personal experience with all of the iPhone's that the iPhone 4 honestly has some of the best battery life currently available for a device of its type. That being said, the fact you can't swap the battery out for another one sucks. It's happened to me more than once when I was out and with no access to a charger.

I don't see the battery life on these being that much of an issue if I can just get a second one as backup.

Yea no kidding but no other deal compares in value. Don't really know what to do, could cancel and buy a cheap phone to hold me over for a while (I need to replace my busted G1 badly). This is becoming a joke though but it seems to be out of their hands and I doubt shouting at t-mobile for mucking us about by mucking them about would do much good.

I don't know if it's all tmobiles fault though. My cousin ordered a desire hd from them, not tmobile, and they haven't sent him out anything either. At least with the Omnia they're giving updates. With him they just said "we don't know".
