Unless I am doing it wrong, I can't seem to burn CD (MP3 files) using Zune into separate folders. If you know how to do it please let me know so I can forever ditch WMP.
 
A new firmware for the Samsung Omnia 7 was leaked last week and includes a NoDo ROM and some fixes, like disabled capacitive buttons, when the screen is touched and better network performance.

So you wanna burn MP3 CDs? You're right, I don't think that's possible with Zune.

I think my brain turned into a mango, because I'm working on the update for the OT and I probably read the word like a billion times while gathering information and screenshots.
 
IE9 on Windows Phone is code complete, won't support any plug-ins, especially not flash. Microsoft is focusing on HTML5 for the web.

Although Adobe continues to say it's working on Flash for WP7, Marini seemed to rule out plug-ins in Mango when he talks about security for mobile browsing.

"We don't do stuff like ActiveX, we don't have browser helper objects, we don't have binary plug-ins. A lot of things that were security issues, we simply didn't do on the phone - a, because we didn't need them and b, for security."

Once Mango is finished, the mobile IE team will carry on working in parallel with desktop IE.

"If you play with the preview of IE10 on the desktop you can get a sense of where IE10 on Windows Phone is going to go," Marini hinted.

Other future improvements might include an offline cache for web apps and ways to link between apps and web pages. "We're looking at how we can make web sites more integrated with the whole phone experience," says Marini.

That's good. Now, I don't have to worry about Flash plaguing my phone.

Adobe Flash has way too many security vulnerabilities.
 
So thinking about getting the Trophy (finally) on the 27th, you guys think I should? I mean I do get a $50 rebate and a free video game.

My orginal droid is starting to crap out so I need a new phone and the WP7 just seems really nice.
 
Not having flash sucks. They lied and said it was coming a long time ago. I dont buy the argument that flash isn't needed. Maybe in a few years, but not in today's web.
 
Anyone know if the Mango event tomorrow will have some sort of stream (even just audio) that's accessible through WP?
 
I would expect them to have their standard silverlight streaming video but I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere.... silverlight will not work on the phone so unless somebody else hosts video I doubt there will be anything that works on the phone.

where did you ever get that idea ? also on a more serious note. what kinds of video format does WP7 support. i know iphone only does mp4.
 
Update: We have confirmation from a reliable source that tomorrow's event will be entirely focused on the software, not the hardware. So, anybody looking for a flotilla of new handsets to be deployed had best get their favorite crying pillow handy.

It's a preview event for the new OS update, not a launch event.
 
Am I the only one who thinks it's not that smart to hype the Mango update that far in advance? The feature list is growing (which is great), but aren't additional Mango features all we hear lately?

Shouldn't they also be talking about Zune updates, additional payment methods and stuff like that? Do we really need more preview videos, more announcements for a firmware update that will not be out in the near future? I'm just worried this means that they currently don't have anything else to show or in the works (no Zune updates, no news about the other things that need to be fixed...).

I'm also thinking about picking up the HD7s. I love my HD7 but since my girlfriend is currently looking for a new phone as well and I thought about giving her my current one to justify buying a new device. :D

Maybe they'll announce new hardware partners, but I doubt the OEMs will announce new hardware months before launch.

According to @MS_Nerd, who has an interesting history with leaks from within Microsoft, the Zune services as we know them will be broken apart, presumably in response to the Nokia deal, which is making some of the backend redundant:

"Wee little rumor seeping out now: Zune next to be split into Xbox mobile, Xbox Live & Windows Live Zune on the 24th."

"And the Zune backend platform will become a "Nokia services on Azure" offering, with content from Netflix, Last.fm & Hulu among others."​

If true, this comes a little more than 2-years after the first Zune team was broken up into hardware and software services, with the former being absorbed under the Windows Mobile group. Now it's the latter which is being divvied and presumably gobbled up by other divisions within the company.

There's been talk for awhile now of "Zune re-branding" and something happening within that division, so this isn't too far fetched. We'll see what happens, if anything, this Tuesday.

I know. But it would be nice. Every Sony phone I had has lasted through alot. Its great Nokia is doing a windows phone.

SE said they'd consider Windows Phone if it becomes more successful. They already had a prototype in the labs.

WP7 hasn't been successful yet, so we will have to see after Mango.

On a side note, I want to see a firmer commitment from Microsoft about slideout keyboards and WP7. As it stands right now, it seems more of an afterthought rather than a complete integration of the OS. Only certain programs tilt landscape, and yes there's the Dell Venue that's a slider, but it just seems really clunky how it is right now, especially for owners on the HTC 7 Pro or HTC Arrive.

This is why I want the Trophy so much in case MS pulls a dick move and says no more hardware keyboards or they won't be fully supported.

Okay what's the deal I saw in the Zune is dead thread about Zune being rolled into live which I get, but not just as a combo deal, but also to add incentive to having a gold sub.

Does this mean the $60 a year for live MSRP might include Zune pass for a year going forward? If so WIN FUCKING RAR!!

Hell no, maybe they will make a new $150/year tier or something. They would be throwing money away if they just gave everyone on Live a free Zune Pass.
 
BTW, regarding Mango and how it'll be pushed out to users. I really feel that they have no option but to do a unified release. If there are weeks and months where particular providers don't update their phones, we are going to see the worst damn fragmentation ever.

I'm sure most apps will see updates as soon as Mango comes out, and apps built for Mango will obviously not work with a non-Mango OS. Anyone without Mango when the time comes will be screwed as far as getting apps is concerned.

I agree pricing wise....

UNLESS they figure it would get Xbox Live Users to buy Windows Phones over iOS and Android Devices...

Zune pass with xbl even for a higher price is something i'd consider.

It really doesn't make sense when you think about it. How can Mango already be RTM, when IE9 Mobile is only code complete, with the team still working on performance optimizations.
 
MS can call Zune whatever the hell they want, but they better not mess with Zune Pass or any of the iTunes-like sync functionality, unless they are going to improve it. Syncing playlists, pictures, video, podcasts, auto-playlists etc. is a damn chore on Android. I like MS' mix of cloud-based services (like the contacts, notes, etc.) and the desktop sync options. Like everything else about WP7, it's a perfect (imo) mix of Android and iPhone. They just need to nail app management, hook non-US users up with more of what we have, and perfect phone backup so when I get my new Mango phone it won't be such a hassle to get my stuff into the new phone.
