Q: Are they committed to going 4G?

A: All the phones in the U.S. are 4G. What's interesting with this release, instead of all the phones coming out on the same day, there will be a season that will carry on into the next year that will include LTE phones as well.

To me, this kind of sounds like LTE coming sooner rather than later. That goes in line with the rumors that Tango will add support for LTE. It would be pretty awesome to hear that in a week, especially since the Nokia Ace is rumored for AT&T LTE in Q1 2012 :) If Tango does add LTE, I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon doesn't get a Mango phone until then.

Excitement... building.

Will likely hold out for another while with my Focus, but fairly interested in what Nokia brings to the table next week. I think I might jump off the contract cycle at some point next year and buy a phone off contract to switch to phones at will. Any tips for those off the upgrade grid?

us carriers don't really have plans that support off contract customers. I've only looked up t-mobile and their reseller simple wireless. they both offer great savings, enough to make buying off contract phones costing $500+ worth it.

Wait, buying a phone off contract excludes you from certain voice plans/data plans? Whaa?

bang!

not what i'm saying at all. monthly plans that are offered from att/verizon are overpriced due to the subsidization of a new phone purchase. that's why they lock you into a 2 yr contract, to make up for the subsidized pricing. use your own phone and the carrier wins, you pay the same higher monthly rate, and you don't get a discount off a new phone.

in comparison, when you look at t-mobile monthly4G plans, simple wireless, boost, virgin wireless or metro pcs, you need to pay full price for a phone but you pay a much lower rate for monthly fees.

9mm thin and looks it

edit: correction it's 8.55mm thin. would have been the thinnest phone if it weren't for the new droid razr.

more from microsoft's andy lee
Here's a quote near the end of the interview from Andy. "Nokia will announce its rollout plans with Windows Phone, among other things. It made an evaluation early on, and saw our roadmap for this year and next year, and it decided to bet the whole company on Windows Phone based on that. We've seen that other hardware makers have seen this occurrence as an accelerant, which in turn helps both Microsoft and Nokia. I'm also excited about naming some new OEMs that will be coming onboard [with WP7]."

new OEMs? motorola WP RAZR. make it happen.

Wow, that's one sexy ass phone; makes me regret signing a 2 year contract with T-Mobile.

Eh, still prefer the Nokia design. It's a slick, stylish, unique design that'll no doubt stick in people's minds.

The Samsung phone...well, looks like every other Samsung/HTC smartphone these days.

Yea, now that I've seen the larger renders, not as big of a fan.

Isn't the flash the EXACT same model as the omnia w?

And the other one's just a bigger focus

Seriously. What is wrong with Verizon? Why aren't they getting any WP7 phones? It frustrates me.

Anyway, today I got the HTC Trophy that I bought from a gaffer here. Absolute first experience with WP7 and, honestly, I love it. It's beatiful, simple, intuitive, and smoother than any smartphone interface I've used (android, iOS, and now this). It's just fantastic, and I wish I had better hardware to experience it on.

The Samsung logo is way too close the screen on the Focus S. Give some room to breathe, Samsung x.x

Also, the Titan looks really nice actually. Nicest HTC phone I've seen in a while. Doesn't look like the Android ones.

The Nokia looks 10x better than that generic Samsung phone which looks identical to like 978324 other phones on the market. This is why I've been so excited about Nokia because I knew the design would stand out.

Those Focus S shots are very nice. It's still going to be between that or the Titan. Assuming both have 16GB storage, it's going to come down to how they feel in my hand and how the screens look.

What's the best News app with Live Tile support that displays headlines. If it displays photos too, that's a plus.

I currently am using BBC World New, but it only seems to cycle through two headlines on the US feed.

I'm not sure how, but I think I've broken my lockscreen. When I press the lock button, you see a glimpse of the window under the lockscreen before the screen suddenly appears and the clock fades in. The clock fade is bad in itself but this is just really annoying.

It will be nice to see what nokia brings to the table. But the searay looks bad IMO. Yes it's different from the other phones but not in a good way.

People who think the 800 looks bad are crazy. The only good thing about the Focus S is the SAMOLED+ screen and thanks to the partnership between Apple and Microsoft, they probably won't get sued for that design.

And I have to say, if it wasn't for the chrome bezel, the ZTE Tania would also look pretty nice.

The Nokia 800 body fits perfectly with the Metro interface, IMO.

edit: I know I've said this before, but I've started using WhatsApp and I just can't believe how bad the interface is. It's just so... amateur.

I'm really eager to see what Nokia's 900 line will look like. We probably won't see it before next year but it'll be their real flagship model in high-end smartphones.

Edit: Nokia just released their Q3 results and Elop said that they're going to release WP7 products 'this year in selected markets'. We'll see what that means.

You know, it would really, really help me if Samsung would fucking finally announce the proper specs for the Focus S and Flash and ZTE the specs for the Tania and so on. I hate when they put out some short PR and then there isn't even a product page on the site. Rage!
