i don't have the mango beta installed & i've yet to receive an update notification. i guess it's the usual slow rollout.

I updated my Optimus 7 (NoDo) today in Germany. I didn't receive a notification on the phone but just plugged it into the PC and manually started a search for an update.

So I just discovered Windows Phone 7 doesn't support multiple calandars unless you use separate email accounts. What the heck. I'm guessing this is another feature Mango is adding?

yes, multiple calendars per account are in mango

Microsoft is Facebook's BFF, Google+ is a direct competitor to Facebook (and Twitter). As long as they don't have to support it, because it G+ suddenly got big over night, they won't. And the way Google keeps ignoring Windows Phone, I doubt we'll see an official app soon. Heck, we don't even have an official Google Maps app.

Are you using Mango?
Completely forgot to update ><

I'm still rocking 7392, I received the mail from MS weeks ago but I'm still hesitating...

Edit: I got to play with a "Focus" (empty shell) last night, I'm so glad Europe got the Omnia :D

Anyone try Tentacles?
I got the demo and then played a couple levels then bought the game. No one is on my leaderboards though and I have, like, 10 friends from this thread alone so it appears no one else thought it was good.

It's a fairly straightforward platformer with a very strange control scheme. It works out pretty well in the end and I like the control scheme (touch the place for the next tentacle) for this format. I'm tired of games that have virtual d-pads or buttons; Tentacles is a great break from this and it sports a fantastic art style to boot!

bill cox is tweeting about how the TSA is sweating him at the airport for carrying "6 new phones." Fujitsu, ZTE, Acer, Samsung, LG, and HTC?

I can't seem to get past the registration process on apphub right now, but do you immediately need to pay the 100 bucks to submit an app (ad supported free game) to the store? I only have paypal atm and no CC

Are you a student? Try to get a Dreamspark account and you'll get one year for free.

Thanks. Not a student anymore no. I don't mind paying if there's a paypal option (everytime I get to the payment part it crashes for some reason so can't see it) but cc will be a problem

Maybe I can let a friend hook me up

Ah yes, can you feel it? Can you smell it? It's this time of the year again.

Leak time

Today we got the new LG Bland.

Okay, it's called LG Fantasy, but I don't see much of it.

I don't like the capacitive buttons, they're a step back from the Optimus 7.

Other announced or leaked devices we've had so far:

HTC Ignite (rumored)

HTC Prime (rumored)

HTC Bresson (rumored)

Acer W4 (shown at Computex)

And, of course, the

Nokia Sea Ray

Some ugly phones in that list. The Searay would be the most amazing phone by a longshot if it had a 4 inch + screen. Once you go big you can't go back to dinky Iphone sized screens anymore.

Looks like it's samsung's phone for me which is no slouch in the looks department but it doesn't hold a candle to Nokia.

So Nokia didn't formally announce their phone yesterday?
Of course not. They have an event in October, where they announce new devices. You don't do that on an investors call. I wish people would ignore Eldar.

The Sea Ray is 3.9", I think.

The LG and HTC leaked/unannounced phones don't seem to have front facing cameras. What's up with that?
A front facing camera is optional, not a requirement, iirc.

You recall correctly. My comment was more wondering why manufacturers would choose to exclude the feature when it's pretty prevalent in Android phones and most consumers will be looking for that, even if they will never use it.

The lack of a FFC in the renders doesn't have to mean much. PowerNow.com leaked LG's remaining smartphone line-up for this year and only one of the phones has a front facing cameras, according to the renders, but when you look at the new LG Prada and read the description:

LG-Prada-K2-sm.jpg

This dual-core model looks to be the second-half flagship, highlighted by its brighter 4.3-inch NOVA LCD and 8.8-millimeter thickness. On-board are dual cameras: 1.3-megapixel front and eight-megapixel rear, with 16GB of internal storage. Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and offering 21Mbps HSPA+ cellular data, K2 is also said to feature a Prada-inspired texture on the casing. A Holiday release is expected.

In other news, Mango apparently went RTM and is in carrier testing.

I've bought it now, so that's one person on your friend's list who hast it. ;-)

I think I've only tried the first 5 levels or so, but I like what I see so far.

Good stuff. Also, the HTC Bresson render MAY be showing an FFC in the upper right corner.

Any new WP7 phones for Sprint?

Reportedly months ago, there was something about the HTC Mazaa sporting a 12 MP camera.

Whatever happened to that?

Those phones are gonna be awesome for the fall of 2012.
This joke, I don't get it.

The Mazaa is just a Trophy with Mango specs. A test device, if you like.

HTC Phone actually looks the best to me at least aesthetically wise. Honestly though my Focus seem to be handling Nodo with a single core and only 512 RAM perfectly fine. So while new phones this fall with Mango will be nice, I don't feel I"ll really be aching I can't get a new phone.

2012 should be interesting though as 4G hopefully will be in more places, and better implemented on phones. Plus we might finally see another screen res bump in 2012 across the board. The res bump might actually put a dual core + more RAM to real use.

Only thing currently that I'd like would be a camera bump. Not really in megapixels (thought it would be nice), but just in overall lens quality. That and better flash for night time pics (iPhone 4 holds this spot down as the only camera I've seen that takes good pics in low light).

Yeah, except the OS and phones first launched less than a year ago. What are you even making fun of? o.o

Microsoft's "Look, awesome stuff......but not right now" technique.

Only just realised the phones voice pronunciation is better on Mango. I use voice commands to call contacts quite regularly since it works consistently and is fast, but we always used to laugh at how it'd pronounce some of our names. Dionne became Die-own, for example. But I just called her and it was pronounced perfectly for the first time.

My upgrade isn't due till after new years. I always get disappointed with nokias, but with WP os I can't see how the phone could be bad.

I'm hoping we get some 5inch screen phones in the future.

Still waiting for a smaller one.

I'd rather have something the size of a Zune HD, but I doubt anyone will ever make one.

Greyface said:
same here. :/

What's the use case for those of you who want a really small smartphone? The main things I do on my Focus are web browsing, gaming, pictures, video, and podcasts. For most of what I do, a bigger screen is better, so long as its still "pocketable" and doesn't feel awkward or heavy to hold. And 4.3-4.5 still meets those criteria for me. I don't see the appeal of having a smaller phone.

what makes the bigger screens better when all the WP devices have the same resolution? You're still getting the same amou t of information on the smaller screen.

A bigger screen, even at the same resolution, can offer a better view. I'll take 720p on a 42" screen over a 22" screen. Also, more space for the keyboard, more space for buttons, more space for webpages, more space for game controls, easier to see the pictures and videos. Tons of advantages of stretching the image out even if the resolution is the same.

Also, the smallest WP7 device right now is the LG Quantum, I believe. I'm pretty sure we'll get another 3.5" device in the next wave this fall.

It may display the same number of pixels, but they are smaller and harder to read and interact with.

You could make the same argument for televisions.. why would anyone want a 40-50" tv when they can get a 32" tv with the same resolution..

Some people just want a bigger picture, even if there isn't any more information contained in it.

edit:

Beaten.

maybe that's a better view for pictures and video (which admittedly you said was your priority) but it's not really a better view for text and web pages which would appear sharper n the smaller screen with a higher pixel density. The Metro UI is a text heavy UI and I think it'd be great too on a small screen
or retina display :|[/
the LG quantum has a small screen but it's a bulky device with that landscape keyboard. WP isn't optimized for landscape so that seems pointless. I wouldn't mind a vertical keyboard but those never come with the arrow keys.

edit: zunehd was 3.2". Sony actually has an 854x480 3.3" phone coming out this fall so it's possible.

I think Mango has some more landscape support, but yeah, the Quantum is a fatty. I've gotten used to the extra real estate, I don't want 3.5", even if it is as gorgeous and sharp as the retina display on the iPhone 4. Super AMOLED Plus at 4" or bigger is where its at for my money and how I use my phone.
