Lumia 800 making up most of their numbers.

Lumia porn.

My Titan is quite jealous of that Lumia's sleek white body. Super hard on waiting for Apollo devices with things like that out in the wild. What weather app are ya using if I may ask btw? Kinda looks like weathermaster, but at the same time it doesn't.

On another note: Looks like a good number of Mac users are using WP devices... Windows Phone Connector is in the top 25 of free apps for the Apple App Store.

February 2011 Nokia announces Windows Phone strategy.
April 2012 Nokia releases the Lumia 900

That is fail right there.

Quick, send out the memo! The Lumia 710 and 800 never happened, the Lumia 900 is actually the N9 with Windows Phone, but no one noticed! Developing phones and getting them to market takes only 1-2 months!

That's weatherflow. It has more infos on the back of the tile. The app is quite nice and the tile is really reliable - I would recommend it.

I think we're fooling ourselves if we think the pace Microsoft (and Nokia) are moving at is at all acceptable. I just feel grumpy today because I've finally realized how bad things are starting to look.

Ignore me.

Edit: Ya know what would make me feel better...if Carcassonne had released today. Grumble grumble.

Apollo OEM conference is soon.
Microsoft’s willingness to work with partners to provide differentiation & customization is an indication that they are planning on providing some major feature improvements over Windows Phone 7. This news also supports the rumor that has re-emerged that current WP7 handsets will not be receiving the Apollo update. Though the news must be painful for anyone who just bought a Lumia 900 it is good news for the Windows Phone 7 Ecosystem.

welp. i am pissed.

I just can't fathom 2nd gen handsets not upgrading to Apollo. That would completely fragment the already weak (in comparison) app ecosystem.

I don't see the relation between the two? So because MS is having an Apollo conference soon that means the current WP7 roster wont get Apollo???

Apollo starts with an A, therefore it will not work on current WP phones

If they are going to allow the handset maker to put their shitty OS on top of Metro, I might as well get Android device or go back to iOS. The good news just keep on coming, no wonder Brandon Watson left the team.

this is the bad news to take out of it...

If its true that the Lumia 900 wont get the update I will be furious. I switched over to AT&T just for this phone. Well....mostly for this phone. Seems to me though by not supporting at least the 900 it is OS suicide.

Google and Apple will eat this up.

The blogger just extrapolating from the rumor that Apollo will have whole new API and allow for manufacture to put on their "differentiation" so if they do that why would they allow the old devices to be upgrade if they are making new "differentiated" devices.

Having a techinical issue: Lumia 900 with my stock Dodge 430N e center in my Avenger. The Blutooth streaming from Zune keeps breaking up when playing music. Any ideas?

The design of the phone and the metro OS are far more Apple-like than anything going on on Android. I know a Apple fan who made the switch to Windows Phone out of sheer bordem of using a iPhone for 5 years straight even though he uses a Mac & iPad constantly. It makes sense.

Well, my Lumia 900 is relaxing on my desk at home..

I went back to my galaxy nexus.. because the battery life is far, far better.

The Lumia drops 4-6% an hour and I don't even live in an LTE area.. if I was getting the amazing speed, it would be worth it.. but I'm not..

My galaxy nexus.. 2hrs 38 minutes idle = 1% drop

I guess not having an LTE radio makes a ridiculous difference in battery life.

Did you try setting the data to just 3G?

My first day with the 800 was good, but the battery could be better. Maybe tomorrow is going to be better with a full refresh. Granted I had that weird network bug that went away luckily.

That's not normal. Have you installed wordfeud or have something else running in the background?

Can you do that on the at&t version?

Nope.

That setting does not exist w/ an AT&T sim card..

It shows up, but is grayed out without the ATT sim present.. so it is likely an ATT lock out.. just like the nokia network setup application is not present in the marketplace for me..

VanMardigan

has calmed down a bit.
My battery life isn't stellar, but then again I'm doing things that I guess would typically cause greater drain. My battery went from 100% to 78% in an hour, but about half an hour of that was streaming bluetooth audio to my car stereo while driving home. Still seems like a lot, so I'll monitor it tonight when I go to sleep and see how it ends up in the morning when I wake up. I might have to kill some background tasks if its draining too quickly on standby.

I'll disable all of my background tasks and take it from a full charge overnight and see how it goes..

I just find it funny that the battery-sucking dual core android OS device with a larger display pushing more pixels and having a smaller battery is getting so much better standby life than my Lumia.

Wasn't Nokia claiming like 200 hours of standby time? I don't even get remotely close.. it would drain to empty in a little more than 48 hours the way it is going..

The decision not to upgrade first and second generation devices doesn't affect me in any way, because I would get a new phone anyways. And why would developers be angry, after Microsoft confirmed that all 7.x apps work on Apollo and probably on Windows RT as well?

Iterating this. IF MS actually had a rough break, excluding even the 900 from ALL of the latest features for Apollo, that would be major poop. But if they were to do that, then that means Apollo has to be cutting edge. If Verge is right, we'll finally have phones on a technical level in parity with the latest from the market leaders. If they're wrong, and honestly I think they are in part, a bunch of phones will get some features, but not all. I think it'll be a varied approach. But then again, we're all just guessing right now.

Regardless, I'm going to get a new phone anyhow at the end of the year, or wait just a bit longer and see if anything else will hit at the beginning of next year. I really hope Verizon gets a great Nokia phone, I'd love to move away from AT&T. Kind of tired of how AT&T does things. Anyone successfully moved off of their mandatory $20 unlimited text plan to use another service? Any suggestions?

Verge is wrong, the os can support cutting edge and run on low end hardware, look at windows 7 that will run on netbooks but with features reduced to compensate, the verge is creating FUD for clicks.

Sometimes I have to double check what's going on in the background tasks every once and awhile, there always seems to be something that makes it in there that I didn't know about. Speaking of battery, every few months or so I turn on my Focus AMOLED screen brightness up to high from the low I usually always have it at, I never get tired of how good it still looks, but I always regret it at the end of work when battery saver kicks in mid way through the day. Wish it could carry me the whole day on that setting.

Possibly, it SEEMS there was a sudden concerted effort across a bunch of various popular tech blogs to crank up the heat for the platform, or they've discovered a method of generating ad revenue. But, then again, why not give them some heat, let them sweat this update out and work hard on making sure it's competitive. Whatever Verge's et al's intention, I don't see the use of throwing a fit until the cat's out of the official bag and we see what we can expect from Microsoft themselves.

From my use of the phone over the last week this isn't at all normal. I use the phone pretty hard (4-5 hours of music a day, maybe an hour of internet, texting and the like) and go to bed with 45%+ battery left. I left it on all weekend without doing much and it didn't even get to 50%.

Are you from the future? This sounds like a nice future compared to my Focus' nose dive at around 4pm everyday.

All the marketing managers stepping down worry me. It makes me wonder if it has to do with the shit storm not upgrading current gen devices to Wp8 would cause.. Anyone have Joe Belfiore's email address?

Admittedly no, I'm not. Can people confirm whether that tends to make a big difference? My sister has never really complained about her LTE phone that's in an LTE area, but I suppose there could be differences.

My Surround did close to the same thing. I was at maybe 20% by the time that I got home. It was a very noticeable battery upgrade in my experience. Certainly more than enough.

I'm not either.. I was just wondering.

It bothers me that I can't turn off the LTE radio when I can't even use it.. I'll do a full reset of the phone and only configure my email and social networking accounts and see if I still get the drain.

I don't wanna get the black. But that 100$ credit is so tempting. What do I do. I need a phone to last me at least 2 years. Man I be been al over the place for the last 3-4 months. It's so annoying not havin a cellphone of my own.

If you're planning on keeping it for 2 years than you should most definitely wait for Apollo.
