Winter 2009 Anime Season of "too much loli - gonna go watch Vampire Bund"

Ok so I saw Nodame Cantabile on the list. I read the summary and was intrigued. As an engineering major almost gone music major I was curious to see how the show would handle things. I started watching two nights ago.

Oh my god. I have been up until 7 the past two mornings catching up. I absolutely love the show, so much that it has reignited my passion for playing my trombone. I actually still play for my college marching band, but for the past few months I have felt music become boring.

As a result of the show, my trombone is currently sitting in my bathtub full of soap and water. I haven't cleaned it in a good few months. Once it's done, I am going to pull out my Arbon book and start playing. I don't care if I might never be in an Orchestra again, I will be damn well prepared. So much so that I am already planning in my head giving an hour a day to practice. I have to scheme a way to get into my college's practice rooms somehow. >.<

But anyways, the show is amazing, and tl;dr, it has actually re-ignited my passion for music. In fact, it has so much I may try to squeeze in playing with a orchestra on band on campus even though I have zero time. Can't tell my parents though, they would yell at me I was wasting time I should be focusing on engineering. Sigh...

My own top 10 anime series of the decade

1. Hajime no Ippo (original series)
2. Zettai Karen Children
3. Guin Saga
4. Aria
5. Gurren Lagann
6. Noir
7. One Outs
8. Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto
9. Azumanga Daioh
10. Moribito

Bleach would have made the list if it didn't have to such suck to drag it down.

This... is... too... awesome!!! :lol :lol :lol

That said, I heard Vampire Bund was extremely fanservicy. Not much about the story. Meh.

And Katanagatari... the story reportedly sucks. Big time. It was a project to publish a book every month, for 12 months, resulting in things like 30 page recaps. And the main characters interaction was so bland that
they killed off the heroine at the start of the last volume to get some room for something more meaningful.
. Bah.
*WARNING!!! LINK CONTAINS BIG SPOILERS*
http://theeasternstandard.blogspot.com/2009/07/katanagatari-shit-till-bitter-end.html

Gag Manga could be interesting but is reportedly a hell to translate so the chances for someone to sub it is only mediocre.
Durarara (Dulalala) is the only thing on my watch list, could be nice.

I usually don't comment on lists, since each person has his own tastes and opinions.

However,
47) Naruto
48) Bleach

49) Kino's Journey
50) Tokyo Godfather
What the fuck.

I guess you missed the "no particular order" in his post?

You should actually read more than the lists themselves :-/

...I should be embarrassed for misreading his post, but I'm sort of happy since this means that his taste in anime isn't as bad as I had feared.

I still want to punch that other guy though.

e: old, regardless looks like Legend of Koizumi will be the only thing worth watching, as expected having read parts of the manga

Yeah the list is in no particular order, that's why I said it first. :lol

And there is no way I would ever rate Kino's Journey below Naruto and Bleach. I just wrote down some anime that I remembered over the decade in the sequence that I could remember them. It is quite possible that I missed out on some quality stuff so please don't take it out on me. :D

man, i want to post it, but at the moment i can't.

and some of you got awsome taste in many while others just got an awful taste.

but in the end its just an opinion so i can't argue with that.

How can someone with a brain like Fate/Stay Night Anime?

WTF to you too. how can you bold Kino's journey and not bold Tokyo Godfathers.

WTF man.

Decade huh? The only criteria I used was lasting impression. If Bakemonogatari finished and if I didn't finish Eve no Jikan recently, one or both may end up on the list.

1.) Mushishi
2.) Hajime no Ippo but not including New Challenger
3.) Hikaru no Go (except 64-67)
4.) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
5.) Honey & Clover 1st season (I still can't make a judgment for the 2nd season years after)
6.) The Twelve Kingdoms (1-39), and yes, I stopped at 39 for closure purposes
7.) Ouran High School Host Club
8.) Hunter X Hunter & OVAs (series finished airing in 01 but started in 99)
9.) Seirei no Moribito
10.) Monster

Notable Mentions:
Bakemonogatari (too early to say)
Eve no Jikan (finished recently)
Code Geass excluding R2 (I can't deny how hyped I was only to have my hopes crushed)
Kaleido Star (after 26, I'm still unsure of what to think about the season as a whole)
Yakitate Japan! (subbers did a great job communicating the jokes)
Kaiba (still dumbfounded about what I just saw especially the first 2 episodes)

Best anime of the decade and of all time is FLCL.

For this winter, I'm looking forward to Gundam Unicorn and the English dub of FMA Brotherhood.

Not in 2008 or 2009. Darker than Black and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei came out in 2007, which was a pretty decent year for anime (IMO). Among the rest you essentially have the one show I liked in 2008 (Kurozuka) and one show I thought was OK in 2009 (Eden of the East). The rest I simply thought weren't interesting or featured stereotypical annoying school aged children I found annoying.

From 2007 and earlier I can generally think of, as you say, 3 or more shows I really enjoyed (usually one - or - two stand-outs). Over the last few years I can think of only one or two shows I enoyed and no stand-outs. I realized it is all personal preference, but the way I see it, things aren't shifting in a positive direction.

Obviously i was referring to the new seasons of Darker than Black and Zetsubou. And if you want other great shows from 08/09 i can do that too:

True Tears
Kurenai
Soul Eater
Kaiba
Ponyo
Sky crawlers
Detroit Metal City
Casshern
Hyakko
Ga-Rei -Zero
Rideback
Cross Game
Tears to Tiara
FMA
Summer Wars
Tokyo Magnitude
Kimi no todake
Aoi Hana

Like i said before, im willing to give u the benefit of the doubt and say you arent down with ANY of the thing i listed with either list. But i cant say this is a bad direction for anime at all. Im sure we have to wade through more crap but i would put Kurenai, DMC, and sky crawlers up against whatever u got pre 07 and say they are on the same level. easily.

And i cant believe you have no love for ippo, that just makes me realize that we are just differnt people.

Favorite animus of 00 (Movies OVA, series)

Mushishi
12 kingdoms
Gurren lagann
Planetes
Banner of the stars 1 2 3
Kinos journey
Spirited away
Monster
Samurai champloo
FLCL
Millennium actress
Baccano!
Kafkas country doctor
GITS SAC 1st gig + Secong gig
Girl who leapt through time
Full metal panic fumoffu + TSR
Eureka seven
Black lagoon
Diebuster
Haibane renmei
Azumanga Daioh

No idea why people say 00 is the worst era for anime, it's easily my favorite based on the quantity of good shows here (though the last 2 years have been pretty average), and there's still a lot of 00 stuff that i have yet to see.
As well as several quality 00 shows that were good, but not good enough to be put on the list.

I say it every season but I'm going to try to get back into anime, hopefully being able to watch some on my newly purchased Zune HD while riding the train will help push along the deed.

I always seem to watch one series and then go into remission for up to a year :lol

3) Sword of the Stranger (Movie)
4) Tsubasa Chronicle: Tokyo Revelations (OVA)
5) Karas (OVA)

These are all in rough order. Not really much worth mentioning in movies, IMO. I'm pretty sure they're all from the last decade, but I'm not willing to look them all up to be sure :p

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Howl's Moving Castle
Spirited Away

Shingetsutan Tsukihime
Samurai Champloo
Full Metal Alchemist
Utawarerumono

Not really sure about the TV series list. Will probably change once I've seen some of them a second time. There was a point where Elfen Lied would have been near the top...until I tried to watch it relatively recently. OMG the cutesy stuff is just unbelievable. I couldn't take it.

Am I the only one completely bored out of his or her mind by Millennium Actress? I think the way the story is told is interesting from a conceptual standpoint, but I didn't find any of the characters engaging, and every scene felt the same.

5. Sora no Otoshimono
6. Bakemonogatari
7. ARIA
8. Natsume Yuujincho
9. Mushishi
10. Kaleido Star (season 1)

There were quite a few others I enjoyed so, at the very least I don't think this past decade was as bad as a lot make it out to be.

Guess I still value sitcom/humor more. Haruhi->Lucky Star transition was easy because loved Hirano at that time.

Took me like a second try and like 2 years later to watch through TTGL, first time stopped after Kamina died.. also 2nd half still not as good even though parts for first half dragged on with boss of week. Also I don't like super robot shows (think Gunbuster/Diebuster are the other exceptions). Minami-ke is not quite as good as LS especially after S1 and SZS is funny but not the same kind of laughs.

Yea I feel that way, I still think Perfect Blue is probably my favorite of Kon's work.

Looks like a pretty weak winter lineup, this is good news for me though, Im behind on a number of anime. I havent even had a chance to check out season 2 of Darker than Black.

Can anyone recommend anything good from this season? Or from this past year? Watched Eden, some of Basara & Bakemonogatari, Darker than black. Anything from comedy to action.

Also randomly, are madlax, noein, or noir worth watching?

Comedy: Natsu no Arashi, Hetalia: Axis Powers(?), K-On
Action: DtB2, Needless(?), Railgun has some moments of action (some pretty awesome) but there's more downtime than action, it might help contrast.
