I don't say this lightly, but C-Ko is the rare anime character whose behavior legitimately resembles severe mental retardation. She's a teenager who, without exaggeration, speaks and behaves like a three-year-old; something is clearly very terribly wrong with her. It sails over the line from being an extreme caricature of moe, whether intentional or not, to something altogether different and disturbing. And people actually find her to be cute?

Dude, Cajun thinks Maromi is cute. I mean, it's Cajun, but come on. MAROMI.

People keep talking about A-ko and B-ko and C-ko and I keep thinking of the Shadow Girls from Utena.

Except nobody in Project A-Ko has given me a heart attack.

CorvoSol is voiced by Takeuchi Junko

Gomamon was like the worst Digimon in the party. Why couldn't I be Gabumon?

Almost like a Satoshi Kon work!

I wish I could believe that C-Ko was a master troll intentionally created to evoke feelings of disgust in otaku toward something they're normally programmed to desire. I really do. It wouldn't change what my experience was like, but it would make it more entertaining in retrospect. But I can't.

I really should get around to starting Gintama sometime. I mean, it's a reference comedy, so I know I'll like it. That episode count is just so daunting, though.

It's also amusing to consider how A-ko and B-ko are fighting over a girl like her.

Didn't expect a guy to be in this show.

Anyway, Japanese mahjong is a lot more complicated so while I know the general rules, the scoring system flies over my head. But at the same time, this is pretty entertaining.
No one knows what the guy is even there for!

... I did not know this. Thank you.
Well, word to the wise, other than editing things to make it work as a single movie, I don't think there have been any changes.

The Four Devas arc is still great though. I would say, baring my one complaint of not bringing EVERYONE back, it's one of my favourite arcs. The fight between Jirochou and Gintoki is just great.

Ohh, I see. This is BakaTest x Silver Spoon. Now it all makes sense.

Despite its fairly typical set-up, this was kind of confusing. Looking it up afterwards, this episode was apparently a recap of the original show and this then goes off in another direction? Alright. Will keep watching. It was intriguing, despite not really knowing what was going on,

So i'm watching a bunch of Prince of Tennis the past couple of days. I don't think Kuroko no Basket will get to that level of craziness especially on what happens in The Nationals.

Who is D?

More importantly, who is Mari?

D is Ira, right hand of the antagonist who should by all rights be really threatening but is reduced to a laughingstock to emphasize the power of the protagonist.

Mari is Uzu, because both are huge except for one place on their bodies.

So I decided to actually watch some anime on my new TV instead of just action movies and Speed Racer and in honor of Corvo, the first thing I watched was the FMP Blu-rays I hadn't bothered to open up till a couple of days ago.

He won't be a major character for long.

Fortunately the series is great even if you never understand the scoring. I sure don't, still.

No one knows what the guy is even there for!

The guy was there for two reasons I can think of. First, since he's ignorant about mahjong he existed to let the other characters explain things. They didn't do a good enough job of this to actually make the game intelligible to people who don't already know it, but at least they tried.

And second, it was early in the series, I guess Ritz thought that there should be a male character in order to keep the audience interested or something? I mean, the series hadn't taken off yet and who knows if it would. Thankfully, once it became clear it was a success, Kyousuke and his heterosexual delusions quickly became a minor character. All he's done for a long time now is provided Yuki with tacos, but he can do that well at least.

On that note, I thought it's amusing that the anime has added in a few scenes of Kyousuke and Touka's butler Hagiyoshi meeting... that wasn't in the manga, that stuff is new. If he can't be with any of the female characters (except maybe Yuki but he's clearly uninterested), why not pair him with a male one I guess? Plus, as ep. 2 said, the guy taught him how to make better tacos, too! Because Yuki's way too busy actually being decent at mahjong to get them for herself.

Hah, good answers.

B-ko's dad needs no explanation.

Well that's certainly a fun start on the show. Although my brother SWEARS Kurapika is a girl (based on the voice alone... but the VA is male so...).

Yeah I need to get FMP too. I owe it to corvy.

no, not similar thematically, but in the overall vibe (bit of love, bit of humour, bit of love, bit of mysterie/fantasy).
not sure if this helps :D

Honestly that show really stands out on its own so its hard to bridge to something similar. Perhaps some can think of something. Im drawing a blank.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
Strike the Blood 14

Pretty good episode. And NEW OP, FINALLY!

I just hope the
body swapping
shenanigans end next episode. Also I love it whenever Vatler shows up. Dude's pretty boss, even if I have no idea if he's supposed to be a hero or a villain or somewhere in between. Actually I think he's probably more of an Akuma-type character. "Fuck everyone, I just want a decent challenge".

Also, loooool fanservice moments. This episode had a ton of 'em. Even more than StB usually has.

The first episode is an entire manga series summed up in 23 minutes and not representative of the series as a whole.

Kino's Journey 13 - End

Kino's seen some shit, but I've never seen her make that face. I was going to remark that it kinda felt like things were coming full-circle, with Lilly being very similar to a young Kino. But then...that happened.

Shame there isn't more of this show. But it left enough of an impression in 13 episodes that I don't think it needed them.

Might as well have the only two guys meet. Although it was funny that he entered a tournament by himself and no one cared.

Watch the ovas for sure. I loooooove the way the show ended. It couldnt end any more perfectly the way the show is structured. Absolute masterpiece.

The Light of El Cantare
So here's my personal background with Project A-Ko so people know why I'm watching this when, honestly, it's sort of outside the boundaries of my normal watching habits.

I hope you didn't think I was questioning why you were watching it! I feel kind of bad just swooping in and dumping on it now that I know it was something personal for you, but the doge speak review gave the impression that you weren't exactly enjoying it yourself :lol

I won't try to shape your expectations unnecessarily for the remainder of the OVA series, but I suppose I can comment on the idea that A-Ko is less "fanservicey" than gore-porn OVAs of the era. While there is objectively less nudity and sexually explicit material in A-Ko than, say, something like Angel Cop, A-Ko is full of subtle titillation. This was, perhaps, part of its appeal at the time, and even though it has a few topless moments to ensure that purchasers got their "money's worth", just think of A-Ko's tank top pajamas, B-ko's powersuit, or how the action scenes seem always to expose petticoats or ride up seifuku tops, or the clothing damage, or the yuri undercurrents, or perhaps even the whole idea of girl-on-girl violence to some people. It's all definitely fanservice, but employed in an alternate and less obvious manner.

Truthfully part of the reason that I have a higher tolerance for putting up with crap in 80s/early 90s stuff that would make me quit a modern show is that I'm more partial to some of the common character design principles of the era. Female characters sometimes had more mature facial features with extra linework, more voluminous hair, and stockier physical proportions; males have squarer jaws and again with the hair. The warmth of the era's color palettes is comforting. You make a comparison to Mazinger and it's true that Project A-Ko shares some stylistic hallmarks commonly present in Go Nagai works like comically-ugly male characters, but both works owe most of their design principles to the larger artistic trends of the era they originate from. I'm always afraid to make sweeping generalizations about any "era" of manga/anime art because the breadth of styles in any era is too impossibly broad to claim anything, but there are certainly things I like and enjoy in A-Ko's "look" that are much less frequent in modern works.

Hunter x Hunter 56

This did something for people who didn't like Final Fantasy 8
it killed Squala off.

Kurapika though, needs to turn off his rage boner, and hard. God damn. He would be arrested for reckless endangerment.
