Death Parade-3
The bowling served no purpose and really felt added on in order to make out the runtime. Since there was no tension, it just felt 'there'. I thought the whole point of the game was to have some sort of tension level in order to bring out their personality flaws but here it was just so milquetoast that I was waiting for something to happen. Compare this to the game in episode 1 where there was a point behind every dart throw.
The twist itself felt bad in how it was handled.
I suppose it was a nice change of tone but the rest of the episode just felt like a mess.
I found this to be a really weak and sloppy episode. The actual setup is just way too damn long. You have amnesia on top of explaining rules, them checking to see if they can leave, and choosing and setting up the game before the players even start to remember or any serious tension builds. It's just too long. I feel like this type of story would work much better as a 40 minute episode.

Why does the woman look like someone else even in death? It seems like it would make more sense for her to look like how she actually looked, pre-surgery. I also feel like it would make a more touching story for the guy to ask her on a date even despite her having some physical flaw. Also the way Decim lead the audience on with how it might not have a favorable outcome felt cheap.
I suppose it was a nice change of tone but the rest of the episode just felt like a mess.
The bowling balls did have the heart connection going on, though, and I guess that was a way for both characters to feel emotionally in touch with each other, giving some sort of meaning to the game they were playing (I agree that the meaning wasn't strong, though). I also preferred the heightened tension behind the darts game of episode 1, but I'm starting to feel as though that might be an exception rather than the rule after watching Death Billiards, in that the games might not all be meant to be physically harmful.
I feel that the emphasis on pitting one's life in the game will be lessened as the show goes on... but maybe not, since the whole idea behind the games was for that.

What a mess.
If this show had been like, maybe 4 episodes longer to flesh out the characters more, I guess it could have been decent.
But as it is, the whole show was such a big jumble of things that I could barely follow what was going on half the time.
And "big jumble of things" really are the words that describe this show. It feels like they took all the important scenes of a longer mecha anime and squeezed them all together to make a recap movie of that anime.
The mecha designs were pretty cool though.
What a mess.

We even had Kanji as a guest star for 57, and Kukai is being more involved, which is more useful than Yaya's existence.

Yo so these three girls, these three tiny Japanese middle school girls, all decided that they would spend the night and next day binge eating gobs and gobs of eggs and rice prepared in half a dozen different ways, all of which are smothered in ketchup or other sauces or cheese and whatnot. This isn't food porn, this is a food snuff film. How are these girls not morbidly obese!
All that aside, great episode, I'm hungry even though I've eaten, and I'm depressed because I'm reminded that I can't prepare rice worth anything.

First time I've ever seen a book with throbbing veins. Well, on the outside, that is.
So she can use magic without having to activate Raging Heart, now? That should be useful.
I really don't like this "goofy" music they play at light-hearted moments. Which reminds me, I'm kind of surprised they're still using so much music from season 1.
There's a character named Vita in this show. I will try to avoid Sony jokes, but can make no guarantees.

Does her magical hammer...speak French?
Using the same transformation sequence as well? This is a second season, right?

This episode just illustrated for me that this show is open to do a lot of thing. The entire ep, i was looking at the current run-time and thinking to myself, "when is the tragedy going to happen?!" I kept waiting for the moment when the two realize that they're actually enemies and a fight between them breaks out, and people a cheating on each other, and it's ambigious who's the "real" asshole or whatever...but, that never happened.
And i realized what the episode was trying to do. It was trying to let you know that this show isn't just about two people going to war and one person coming out the victor, there levels to death - there are a lot of different revelations that one can come to in death. Not every death is going to be some conflict between flaws, sometimes death can bring you closer to people you feel out of touch with; whether that be yourself or a long lost friend.
I personally really enjoyed the episode, it was really touching to me.

So yea that's a huge fucking gap in background art. It feels like two different production studios worked on the backgrounds in this episode.
I felt like the first half of the episode was pretty well directed as it fleshed out the psycho female Knight, something I feel like the show has really been missing. Also looks like Gowther should be a fairly interesting Sin as he looks to be the brains of the group. The show really does feel like something BONES would have done awhile back, just so much similar in tone at times to Fullmetal Alchemist.
How do we go from the above, to this?

Since i'll be pessimistic about it; don't count on shit. I'm going to probably import the last 3 volumes by the end of the year since they have the English subtitles on them anyways.

You say that as if they got a lot of money from it. According to an ANNCast, I forget which episode, the volumes they did sell, sold atrociously.
According to Voyager USA, delayed until further notice.
I wouldn't be counting on the last two releases coming out any time soon, personally.

I think it was before I was even using or browsing GAF for anime discussion when I stumbled upon the KLK OT at the end of the season and there were pages of discussion about Mako x Ryuko shipping because it wasn't quite clear how "going on a date" was supposed to be taken.
