Santa Company
The big flaw in this show is that it introduces complex concepts and alludes to backstory yet it spends to far too little time explaining This would have worked better as something 40 minutes as we barely know these characters and their semi-random reasoning. Otherwise, it's kind of cute

Garden of Words
A very pretty anime. Also some strong usage of motifs though I don't understand what exactly they mean. As for the actual story, it is kind of weak. Starts off fairly slow and then goes heavyhanded. Not particularly well aimed and the climax feels kind of poor

where did you watch Santa Company?

Barakamon 12-End

Though I was generally pleased with the ending, I didn't really care for the first half being about his mother going crazy trying to convince him to stay at home. For someone we only just saw for the first time the previous episode, to have her take on that role seemed forced, particularly since he's a grown-ass man.

Felt there's some culture shock from this comment.

Great and incredibly charming series overall. Glad I watched this before casting my AOTY ballot.

yeah the whole "stay home" bit was a bit forced since he's supposed to be grown up, unless the mom has always been super protective/attached.

I know there was a question about Sentai's Blu-ray release of Hidamari Sketch x 365 regarding the subtitles late last year. I have know idea if this was answered, so sorry if this was already stated. The subtitles were on by default for both discs and were white instead of Sentai's typical yellow. I only have the one BD-player to verify this.

I also have the Hoshimittsu and SP Blu-rays ordered, so I will try to remember to post about those releases' subtitles.

EDIT: I also noticed that episodes 12 and 13 are reversed as compared to the Japanese release. Doesn't matter much for a series with nonlinear episodes though I guess. Not sure if that was also true for the earlier DVD releases.

Oh wow, a touch-based keyboard, how futuristic!

In which Fate obtains that most important of accessories, the cell phone.

Thought it was emulating Shaft direction, but it was just Zero G.

HOLY CRAP SUPER 90'S SOUNDTRACK. Just because Amy came home from the grocery.

Incredible fish-eyed lens, Nanoha.

This series sure does love its bondage, doesn't it?

Well, this battle between Fate and Signum is all kinds of awesome.

So, umm, theory.
This episode made a point of telling the audience that Chrono's father was destroyed with the Book of Darkness 11 years ago. Masked man shows up again, protecting Vita so that she can complete the Book of Darkness. His hair is the same color as Chrono's. Could he be Chrono's dad, potentially brainwashed by the Book?

It's definitely strange. It looks much better though. Unfortunately, both Hoishimittsu and SP have the standard yellow subtitles.

The subtitle's colors don't bother me, assuming any background art/text isn't the same color. The next episode previews being completely off after the episode 12 and 13 mix-up was more bothersome if anything.

Death Parade 04

This was some heavy shit, but I agree that this needs to be longer. I feel like they are ramping up the intensity of scenarios to try and get the desired emotional response whilst staying within the runtime. I'm more interested in learning about the whole world more than the whole gauntlet scenarios, so I'm looking forward to next weeks episode.

I really should like this show more than I should, because this is Shaft trying to do an all girl mono no aware show but with cooking has the main "activity" instead of photography or mountain climbing. But for some reason, even after three episodes, I'm just not feeling it. Maybe it's because I wish I was just watching another season of HidaSketch, or maybe it's because I'm a bit tired of this type of show after watching several last year.

There are the typical Shaft hooks, with the presentation and the voice cast specifically, and I'll probably stick with it because of that, but I just don't feel as emotionally invested in these characters as I think I should be. Maybe I just need a break from these kinds of shows.

I don't think I'll be watching Votoms though lol

Log Horizon s2 16

Kind of meandering and enjoyable, setting up more plot lines

it's really more noticable how ugly the show is these days, alas :(

Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 17:

Right, so this is the episode where we get the actual backstory on Roe 2, well, at least the where did you come from and where are you going part. The whole being Shiroe without being Shiore has not quite dropped on them yet, but the obvious connections are being made. Also, Rule 63 Shiroe should be creating a lot of conflicting feelings for a lot of people. Also, calling bullshit on the disguised Nureha at having no reaction to somebody who looks and acts so much like Shiore considering her obsession. Indeed, I am unsure what Nureha's intentions are right now and her intentions towards the Log Horizon Junior League other than they are worrisome. Speaking of the kids, more mini-adventures in the dalliance of heroics as the trip is getting more arduous as they are not only passing through a town that sit near an active volcano but they are venturing deeper and deeper into enemy territory. I do love the fact that Log Horizon can do world building on so many levels, from the grandiose, in which I mean I was expecting many things from this show, I was not expecting the fucking INCOME INEQUALITY GAP to be a thing that is being addressed in this series. Indeed, it turns out the rich are getting richer and poorer are getting poorer and everything being said at the Round Table meeting, while in the framework of the game and the universe, actually sounds like reality, unnervingly so. Things like that are why this series won my AOTY vote. ALong those lines we meet one of the sub-divisions of the Plant Hwyaden who have invented a portable cathedral, which seems handy but also seems to have a high price attached to it, and is also a good indicator of the technology level that Plant Hwyaden is operating at. Though lest I forget that this series doesn't drop shit subtle like. In the beginning we see that Nureha and her entourage have a mag-lev train that doesn't need tracks, that is important as that explains how then can use such machines against Akiba. Yes, another fine episode, much better then last week and next week it looks like even more world building shall happen.

Polnareff should have been dead to rights. If that Stand was even remotely decent, Polnareff should be dead.

Oh and the music was really good this episode especially during the climax.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - 14

What stood out in this to me was Rei going all philosophical with the unnerving soundtrack. And yet another berserk happening, but this time with her Eva while Shinji is in it. I find these events creepily intriguing, makes me wonder what mysteries will unfold later.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - 15

yoooo what the hell is going on, those last 2 minutes.. what is he doing to Rei and are those human corpses in Adam??
I liked the focus on Kaji and Misato. Why isn't Shinji's mothers corpse in that grave and why did Dad of the year throw away all photographs? Strange man he is. Overall a great episode.

Oh my gosh how absolutely precious! I love this show right now, it's pretty fantastic. The whole "naked men with Leopard" didn't throw me off at all, I guess it's just different societal norms for me.

Death Parade 4

God dammit. Suicide always hits where it hurts. Great episode, but god. Facing the fact that you died must be incredibly hard.

Went through Buddy Complex last week and I have just watched The Final Chapter. Might have had a single tear for that ending. This Sunrise studio is a lot better at endings than the Code Geass studio. I do find it disappointing they went with two episodes instead of a new season.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - 16

Jesus what a cool episode. This whole scene. The one before with his mother, and the conversations he had and how it was shown as 'radio waves' was great.
Now first of all, the shadowy figure with the mother voice was sort of bulky, reminding me of an Eva. There's the 'reports' that Ikari killed his own wife.
The fact that the mothers corpse isn't in her grave. Is the Eva's part human and part Angel? Like Shinji's Eva was created with some sort of merge between his mother and Adam. And Rei's Eva is with one of her parents etc.

However the doctor points out that if Rei and Shinji were to find out the secrets of the Eva they would never forgive them. Why didn't she mention Asuka?
Rei being in that machine the previous episode makes me wonder if she's some sort of artificial creation. She is called the first child after all. What if Rei and Shinji are born from the angels? I don't even know anymore
10/10 episode

The Soubi Yamamoto (This Boy Can Fight Aliens, THis Boy found a merman, this boy suffers from crystallization, and Meganebu!) interview was really nice. So glad to finally see her and hear her views and experience on working on the anime, why cant more 23yr old start in anime with their own OVAs too. I liked her view of BL, romance between boys is pure. Cant wait for her fourth entry in the series.

Its one of my favorite mecha and they handled the concept well in the two episode conclusion. Dio's tears :(

I don't think Japan understands what people mean by 'Food Porn'. They heard the word 'porn' and instantly decided to make it sexual. Even Ben-to had unnecessary sexual shit on a show that would have been great if it was just really delicious looking food alongside the Wizard Wryyyyyyyyyyyyyy

lol bad wording?

I meant that Ben-to would have been perfect if it was just ridiculous premise of Fight Club with Lunchables and it left the harem/ecchi shit away. Unless you're talking of something else

nothing in that post makes sense, what does an image of Koufuku Graffiti have to do with "food porn" and Japan's inability to understand what porn means and omg why is porn sexual

Assassination Classroom-3

So this was actually a good episode now that we have an interesting character. Funny how that works.

?

it was more of a joke against taking the literal meaning of the phrase food porn, which unless everybody i know uses it incorrectly irl it's only used in the sense of making food look really detailed and delicious and the focus of many scenes. IE cooking/eating shows.

Similar to the phrase 'torture porn' which is just like media about constant torture (see Saw, Hostel).
