Sailor Moon Mondays: Sailor Moon R: Episode 84

Ah yes, time for another installment of Chibi-Usa is awful and I hate her and she should have been erased from the timeline. So as it turns out the reason disaster has befallen the palace is because the pink hellbeast wanted to play around with The Silver Crystal in order to be more like her mother and sent it away to the phantom zone. Oh but before that revelation she has one of her hissy fits because Sailor Moon tries one thing and fails to revive her mother, which would be fine until she runs out of the fucking palace and right into the arms of the enemy. God damn I hate you and everything you stand for Chibi-Usa. The enemy in question is Wiseman, somebody I do not think I have talked much about up to this point, simply because he has been content to sit in the background issuing the occasional fortune and not much else. Indeed, he very existence has been a point of contention for Saphir who feels that WIseman has been manipulating Dimande with the lure of the Black Crystal and he is right, but he can do nothing about this. Dimande is also being motivation by his intense desire to forcefully penetrate any incarnation of Queen Serenity which is turn makes Esumrelde increasingly green eyed with the envy and she basically sells her will over to Wiseman in exchange for the power to revolutionize the word via the transposition of dragon fire. She fights the Sailor Scouts in what is sadly one of the most dynamic fights offered up by the series yet and then gets thrown into the void. Good riddance I say as she been a horribly cliched one dimensional villianess whose obsession with the prince has just left me bored. Anyway, once again highest recommendation to watch.

Mushi-Shi - 11

Yeesh, that's one messed up village.
I mean, they freaking dump babies into the wilderness because the women can't stop giving birth. :(

Also, I liked how this episode had another Mushishi. It was interesting to see Ginko talk with someone who was pretty much on the same level as him.

Mushishi had some truly disturbing content and themes despite how beautiful it is. Its a really strange anime.

It's that time of the year again. Anime Mirai 2015. Starting in the top left and going clockwise we have:

Aki no Kanade by J.C Staff, Directed by Youhei Suzuki

Happy ComeCome by Synergy SP, Directed by Yumiko Suda

Kumi to Tulip by Tezuka Productions, Directed by Makoto Tezuka

Ongaku Shojo by DEEN, Directed by Kenichi Ishikura

I see so many cuties. This is good.

Seiken tsukai no world Break - 07

Still some problems in the animation this week , but thankfully that didn't prevent the fight in the second part for being above average trending toward the good category. In fact it impacted some scenes toward the middle of the episode and that trully softenned the blow.

As for the show itself , one should never learn about japan habits and customs by only reading manga , that's a recipe for problems
New girl is cool , I do agree that her frankness toward answering question trully made an excellent scene in the classroom .

Next week gonna be cool ...

Ps: my "CAJUN ALERT" detector activated during this episode , figure fans worldwide should be happy ..

I have no idea if I should watch this but you got my attention!

Yet another person who sees the light that is Kirara.

Speaking of which, going back on the whole "white-washing" character designs, I like to point to something in this image.

There's some major changes in the images, with the right side being the broadcast version. HOWEVER, what's most important is the first set of images. In the previews, Minami ate a chocolate donut. HOWEVER, IN THE BROADCAST VERSION, IT'S NO LONGER CHOCOLATE! There is a major conspiracy with the color brown folks, and the fact that it has reached donuts solidifies this as a new problem in anime.

Wait, what two versions are these? Isnt broadcast the only version?

Sailor Moon R 37

How embarrassing...

Everything about Crystal Tokyo, Chibi-Usa and the Dark Moon Clan gets explained and Sailor Moon gets kidnapped by Demande. Everybody, even the enemies hates that this happens, but luckily Tuxedo Mask manages to find a hang glider and rescue her.

Gatchaman Crowds 1-12 plus 12 Director's Cut

What a surprising treat. Came in expecting to be bored out of my mind, but thoroughly enjoyed the ride. It breaks a lot of the "superhero/sentai" trends I've seen over the years which leads up to a very entertaining multi-episode finale. The concept of Galax is also very interesting and a good insite on how social media could evolve to something gamechanging like how it is in this show. The ability to locate others who have the skills needed at the time of the emergency is something I could see happening in the future. Though most of that would depend on how willing people would be to help each other. It not like they were doing it for free either, as they were earning points for it as well. What the points were used for, I never fully understood however.

Hajime is a surprisingly fun character. I was expecting to hate her but she ended up being my favorite character. Her positivity came off as infectious. In fact it's rare for a show to have nothing but likable characters in it. Even the villain was so over the top and flamboyant, that I ended up liking him. Not sure where a second season would go, but I'm looking forward to it regardless. There is one thing I didn't understand though.
Is Utsu-tsu an alien as well? Her powers are never really explained, or I missed it.
One thing about the Director Cut ending,
the ending reminds me of what Asbel did to stop the villain of Tales of Graces, but Hajime is way more likable so I ended up being okay with it unlike ToG. See Tales of Studio, this is how you write a overly positive character without them coming off as obnoxious.

Also boo on Sentai Filmworks for not getting the rights to the director cut of episode 12. It was included with the Japanese final BD release so it's not like it was an OVA sold separately or anything like that. Plus it fully explains the confusing ending so it really sucks that they couldn't get the rights to it.

Gatcha! : >

Saw that ages ago, don't remember too much. Only the general impression that it was worth watching. No AOTY material and the end part was definitely a bit weird by average anime standards (whatever the hell those are) , but it was... not bad? Good-ish? You could definitely do worse.

I did a while back, loved it. Super fucking sad, it was the beginning of my crying like a little bitch at everything phase, which hasn't ended.

Thanks for answers! it shall be by next series then. I will probably also cry like a baby if it really is sad. I cry fricking easily with tv shows/animu/games.

Perfect blue is a great movie but Millennium Actress just seems on a different level. IT didnt use shock value or disturbing themes to tell its story. It wasnt too dark, though it was certainly sad enough to be a tearjerker. To each their own, and really, with Satoshi Kon you cant lose anyway no matter what film you pick.
I mean I don't disagree...
But I think I can still consider Millennium Actress a fave and still recognize that Perfect Blue is the better film. I think saying that Perfect Blue just resorted to using shock value is a huge disservice by the way, criminally so and I don't see how being dark and disturbing is a negative :p To be honest, I don't truly think you believe that either, I just feel that you don't have to look for justifications as to why you preferred one to the other, especially when like you said both of them are amazing. Sometimes one film just resonates more with you than the other, and that's fine.

What's the point? Sentai and Section 23 (ho ho ho, they named it after the bankruptcy statute!) are ADV. What value does an old, defunct and not particularly well loved brand name offer?
Heh, can you imagine a resurrection in tow with bringing up again that live-action NGE project?

Absolute Duo 08

Miyabi's battle prowess shouldn't be the only element that defines her character. She's got a good heart and very little bloodlust. Which makes her an odd fit for the school, but I'm sure she has her reasons for being there. A very lewd episode all around, but an entertaining one until those Halo guys showed up again.

Yuri the Pooh 08

There's more to the story than we could've guessed. Boxes have been a motif of things ever since the first episode, but now some meaning is being applied to them. Not to mention Yuriika
trying to cover up her own crimes by blaming Ginko for everything.
Exclusion. The invisible storm. Everything is beginning to tie together - but what does Kumalia want from all this?

Kamisama ◎ 07

The tengu country doesn't allow them to talk or even see girls at all until Nanami showed up? The target audience is showing there, but in this case, all things are mostly equal.

Just watched Brigadoon.
Can't decide if it's one of the better or worse shows I've seen in a while. It kept me interested at least, and it had an amazing emotional peak at episode 12.

It's incredibly weird, in both attractive and off-putting ways. It has a genre hopping element that might remind people of SamFlam (though I haven't seen that), however it always remains a fairly ambiguous and undefinable mishmash (for better and worse). The mood whiplashes are equally as crazy and frequent. When I say this show can get dark, I mean incredibly oppressive, bleak and violent. Only to flip the switch and become a lighthearted children's cartoon the next moment. It's this schizophrenic edge that is Brigadoon's most defining element (again, for better and worse).

In the second half it sort of jumps the shark and starts to fall apart, (there were so many twists and mood shifts in the story I stopped taking it seriously) but it always had something interesting to pull me in. It's quite unique and memorable, so I don't regret watching it. If you can get past some questionable (if tame) underage fanservice and 13yo on adult romance (this was my biggest roadblock, but it was handled tastefully enough), and you like unusual shows, this one might be for you.

No idea what's going on with that. Maybe they'll be releasing more products under the ADV name, like they did with the Elfen Lied BD. No idea why they'd even bother at this point, though.

Yuri Kuma Arashi Episode 8

So we have reached the crescendo of climax and we have to wait a week to see how events shall transpire, I do not like this.

Not familiar with the show myself, but thought that I'd share

Released by Animatsu, a Manga Entertainment spin-off of sorts.

Given the total run time, this set might not have the director's cut of the final episode either.

I think content wise it will be similar to the Sentai Filmworks release, take that for what you will.

It's so weird that the episode that explains the rushed ending isn't licensed in the west at all.

It really is. I think that episode is technically considered a bonus feature, and has a different company who owns the international rights to it. Sentai wasn't willing to pay extra money to get it, so we're stuck with what we have for now. I'm personally hoping that it does well enough for Sentai that they'd go back and grab it, either to release it as a standalone OVA or as part of a collector's edition set, but that might be a pipe dream.

Hunter x Hunter - 91

At long last, but no king rules forever. I expected this guy to look somewhat frightening, I can't take that helm, ears and needle tail seriously! Neffie is more frightening to me right now. Speaking of king Douchebag, he killed Birdbro and ate him. Fuck the king.
But at least stuff is happening now with the Royal peeps who seem to be doing their own thing. An alliance between the remaining loyal ants and the hunters to fight the royal guard and/or the supposedly split factions would be cool to see.
I'd pay good money to see the Spiders and Zoldryck family fight these. If they focus on Gon and Killua's 30 days of crying up next I'm going to jump in front of a train.

So yeah, pleased with the direction this has taken. I mean I was hoping for anime Twilight Zone but I think this is ultimately working out better. It's nice to see Decim is a little more complicated than has been let on so far too.

I think it's only a handful of eps to go through in this situation. Please be excited for 96-97 too as the Phantom Troupe does get a go with one of the Chimera Ants too albeit not the king or his guard.
