I like Yuka Iguchi's character. She makes a nice contrast to Kirin.

Maria 10

I've really grown to like Maria as a character. She's not big on war or religion, but instead on alleviating fear and growing friendships. Needs to work on being a bit more social, but otherwise, she's got guts. Even Eze is starting to come around to her side.

Yatterman Night 10

The recap at the beginning was equally introspective and a bit lengthy, but the end of the episode, with
Dokurobey being behind all of this
, while a bit expected, could go in some very interesting directions.

My wish is for the final episode of Yatterman Night to play out almost exactly like a regular episode of regular Yatterman, with Gan/Ally/Leopard and company gleefully embracing their roles and being old friends about it.

Gaiking: Legend of Daiku Maryu - 26

This shit just got real!

Like, you can tell things are going down when your episode starts off with Proist murdering an entire city.

Not only that though, she's also got her own Gaiking and Daiku Maryu too! Oh, I'm sorry, Vulking and Daichi Maryu. I love it when villains in mecha anime get doppelgangers of the hero's mecha. It always means an awesome throwdown is gonna come up sooner or later.

I think it's clear by now that Nouza is so gonna end up fighting on Daiya's side. Dude freaking saved his life in this episode.

Yatterman - 10

Looks like our predictions were correct.

They laid the clues so thickly it was hard not to be correct

So I imagine their exile on that island or wherever they lived was more of a reward for past services rather than a punishment.

Cross Ange - 23:

Sundays are going to be a lot more boring after Cross Ange ends. So bad that it's so good. I also think that Ange is legitimately pretty good character and has had pretty great character development across the series. Bitch mode Ange is the best.

Digimon Frontier: 14

Worst Chara- I mean Junpei is actually starting to become a bit better of a character. Actually putting the team above his own health and managing to not only defeat one of the main antagonists, but get Izumi back her Spirit Evolution. Also, he gained a Beast Spirit, so now he's got a stronger evolution to use as well.

...Oh goodness, the preview for the next episode... Gonna be fun... :)

[Tenamonya Voyagers] - 1

Tenamonya Voyagers is a 4 episode OVA series from 1999 directed by Akiyuki Shinbo and animated by Studio Pierrot.

This series is kind of hard to describe. It's essentially a wacky comedy series with amazing visuals that's occasionally blended with hot-blooded mecha action that ends with the most ridiculous swimsuit episode in the history of anime.

There's not really much 'plot' to discuss. All our main heroes are looking to do is travel from the edges of outer space to Earth and along the way they end up involved in many gag filled adventures and occasional full on robot fights.

Our main cast are a sporty girl, an unemployed teacher and a gang leader:

As the plot is basically just an excuse to string together a number of funny scenes there isn't much to say about it and I'm certainly not skilled enough to explain how the great visual comedy in this series works. I will, however, highlight the amazing craftsmanship and superb direction on display in this series.

There are things I certainly wasn't expected, like really detailed and fluid mechanical animation:

As well as beautiful background art:

There's also plenty of cinematography that I've come to expect from Shinbo such as unusual camera perspectives (in this case via the use of a fish-eye lens effect):

Internal framing, in the case used to draw contrast between the competency of two characters:

And outstanding lighting and colour choices. In an integration sequence we see a confident man outlined primarily in blue who feels that the police can't touch him.

However that misconception is quickly shattered:

And he moves from the safety of blue into a much more dangerous red:

Did I also mention this OVA has insane animation? There are numerous moments I could grab but my favourite is probably a great robot sequence towards the end of the episode. Essentially Paraila has the power to turn regula robots into SUPER robots and this is achieved via an amazing transformation sequence:

Or for those you living in the webm present here's the full sequence:

Pretty amazing stuff.

Gangsta Anime Visual

Man am I hyped for Summer mostly because Gangsta is getting an anime adaptation. The Studio is Mangolobe, the music is being done by the same guy who did Samurai Champloo, and the Director is from Ergo Proxy. Please turn out to be great, I really need this. I'm tired of shitty adaptations.

No, no, just no, a thousand times no, it is a trainwreck and that is why it is allegedly glorious according to some.

I'm just defining trainwreck differently than you here. It doesn't make sense to call a show a trainwreck that lays its cards on the table right from the start. Trainwreck implies it was a normal ride at some point before it crashed.

Maria the Virgin Witch - 10

The show is basically in endgame mode and that's alright by me. More action, both supernatural and conventional, is going on and almost the whole cast is involved, one way or another. It's actually nice to see some variety in who assumes certain roles at this point in the story. The series has stuck to its main theme, whether you like or not, but for me the experience has been overwhelmingly positive.

Serial Experiments Lain 4:
Well, Lain is certainly changing quite a bit, and everyone seems to be noticing it. Some of those scenes in the latter part of the episode were pretty creepy, and it's also got to be disconcerting for everyone around her.
The way she tells her father about how the border between worlds isn't clear cut, and then she does something to the guys in the car after that seems to be connected to that, but I don't exactly what it is yet.

This episode remained pretty atmospheric, and the Wired is explored in a bit more detail. We also learn why kids should never be playing online games. Nothing good ever comes from it. This was another episode that flew by, and at the end I was like 'oh, it's over already?'

Did Maria end up diverging heavily from the manga? I could swear I read that but would like to know one way or the other.

Trainwrecks can happen right out of the gate. Also, not sure if there is really a word for what you are describing. Well, as far as transportation goes. Utter shit will also do in a pinch.

It's still following the rough outline of the manga story and certain scenes are very much intact, even in the latest episode, but it has also introduced plenty of new characters, expanded content and outright skipped a couple of chapters. I would say it's a liberally remixed version of the manga, rather than a slavishly faithful adaptation or a totally unrelated show.

I know I mentioned it in my original post but Tenamonya Voyagers really does not have the same budget as most gag comedies. Or perhaps, any gag comedy:

Mushishi 4:
This was a gorgeous piece of television. The background art throughout the entire episode was downright fantastic. The plant life just seemed so alive, and the feeling of the town and the whole area was captured perfectly. It was just a real treat for the eyes the entire time.

And the story was fantastic, and went into some pretty dark places. There's not really an easy figure to blame for what happened, because it feels like everyone had some part in it, and yet also can't really be blamed.
Ginko's lack of honesty lead to Jin's mistakes, but he was trying to help in his own way, and Jin was still responsible for not following his advice. And the mushi were just trying to get out into the world.
I'm not really sure if relaxing is the right word to describe a show that can get as heavy as this one, but it does kind of just feel like a laid back viewing experience. It's tough to put the exact feeling into words.

Kanye decides to look up AV girl material on the internet.

One of the links he visits is a furry porn site.

Gets caught red-handed by 50 and Moffle who both believe he is one.

This is why you don't look up questionable sites at work, folks.

You look like you know a lot of goodies that are oldies. Give me recs on some romcoms or shounen/rom from the 80's and 90's pls.

Well there's a few classics that essentially created the genre which were widely respected when they came out but are far less popular now.

I suppose the quintessential romantic comedy is Takahashi's Maison Ikkoku. It certainly created the familiar "slowly developing romance" theme that's thankfully mixed with a whole host of comedy hijinks. While the story has a distinct beginning, middle and end y the series is a awe-inspiring 96 episodes long and the amount of time it takes for the romance to reach it's end point is delayed by endless "misunderstandings". I can't strictly recommend anyone watch what's essentially a serialised and fairly simple story that takes this long to finish, even though I really enjoyed it when I watched it. You might find it palatable but I can't guarantee it.

Takakhasi's other big romcom manga was Urusei Yatsura. Unlike Maison Ikkoku there's no actual 'end point' for this romcom, it's just a series of gags but it's unique and unusual setting allows it to explore literally any setting including detective thrillers, fantasy, science-fiction etc. Because it's so varied and unique I didn't find it a chore to watch all the 106 episodes that were oversea by Mamoru Oshii. The series only has 195 episodes in total but I wouldn't necessarily recommend you watch past episode 106 apart from to watch the second movie, Beautiful Dreamer.

For a far shorter experience I'd recommend the very first Tenchi Muyo! OVA, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki. Specifically, you only need watch the first 6 episodes which are the best ones. The series eventually develops into a terribly generic harem series but the first 6 OVA's are legitimately great.

Kimagure Orange Road is certainly the definitive love-trianlge rom-com that has a respectable following. I don't like it very much but it certainly has a sizeable and dedicated following.

Princess Tutu 4:
"That's because there are many other emotions in my heart that won't give in to the sorrow."

That's a simple line, but it carries such weight with it. There's a lot of meaning to be found in this show just on a basic level of human emotion. But there's so much more going on, especially with the notion of the rules between stories and reality breaking down. Is a person still just a character in a story if they know that they are? And if you have a specific role to play can you actually ever achieve what you desire, or are you just going to be doing the same thing forever? Things have just started, but these questions are running through my mind when I watch the show.

Beyond all of that, the facial expressions in this show are among the best ever. They're just so hilarious. Neko-sensei is also a pretty hilarious character. His scenes are pretty much always gold. I'm really loving every aspect of this show so far.

I've watched all of these except for Urusei Yatsura. I've found it in my search for romcoms or roms in general and what kept me from not watching it was because the synopsis says
they already marry each other early on
so there isn't that tug of war you usually see when a couple starts to form, which is seen in Kimagure Orange Road. My only gripe is how "in the dark" you are about the heroine's life in the beginning, which got frustrating at one point. I watched Tenchi Muyo! as a kid here in America and that with Inuyasha introduced to the glory of Japanese animation. KareKano is another masterpiece in my eyes, even though they become a couple early on due to knowing each others home life. If you have any more recs, please do go nuts and post them as a list if you can lol.
