Winter Anime 2015 |OT| ZA WARUDO is not square!

Not open for further replies.
I'm really behind on anime again. It's really hard to find time for video games and work and the internet and anime and things like that.

So I haven't seen many anime lately.
Are there any neat new anime you think I would like?

Oh you were taking recommendations?

Well, I don't usually recommend this, but you might enjoy Celestial Method.

The writing isn't exactly stellar, and the plot kind of goes bananas (not in a good way) towards the end.

Still, I think you'd definitely enjoy the character Noel in it. She's the super happy small cute and positive one in a town with a lot of drama.

Though if you're looking for a comedy, you should definitely check out Nozaki-Kun if you haven't. It's hilarious.

I'm not really watching KanColle for the battles anyway. (And I'm used to CGI digressions from Love Live/Aikatsu/PriPara). It's all about how the characters bond/use their fan-developed personalities outside of the battles, especially since there's no admiral to get in the way and it'll be purely girl bonding.

This is also the appeal of GFB and Cinderella Girls.

Anyhow, I’ll leave this open until the end of the month and finalize it then if there’s enough interest. We can all have a good laugh at MPR when everyone but him has finished at the end of the year.

Are you watching Shirobako? It has the most moe character of all time: director Kinoshita.

director-jail-400px.jpg

But for real, I think it matches your criteria quite well. It's not finished though.

I wouldn't call Shirobako as cute girl doing cute things considering how the show present itself (which is very refreshing, especially the relationship between the girls). But if you have the slightest on how anime were made or the people behind it, Shirobako is definitely worth watching.

Thinking about Madoka Rebellion a bit more - Homura did everything wrong. She did a bad thing and should feel bad. The world as a whole is worse off :(

Anyway, thinking of Winter series:

Hook it right into my Veins!
JOJO
Death Parade

I'm buying into the hype, don't let me down
Yuri Bear Storm
Maria the Witch (because Moyashin author did this too)

I'm here for the Sakuga

Rolling Girls
Yatterman

If I hear especially good things or have time to kill

Durararara 2
Aldnoah Zero 2

Continuing from last season

Shirobako
Parasyte
Gundam Build Fighters Try

Trojita

Rapid Response Threadmaker
Rokujouma no Shinryakusha - Episode 1

This show should just be titled: I'm going to get laid - Does it count as sex if I do it with a ghost?

Oh, that's hard to remember.

I really enjoyed Non Non Biyori. But that was from a while ago...
I like moe. Not like the fanservice type, but like cute designs and the "cute girls doing cute things" shows. My favourite two genres are Magical Girl and comedy.

And I guess my third favourite genre is Slice of Life.

I like.. kind of unique comedy shows? I really like Nichijou and Hale Nochi Guu.
While I really don't like a lot of the... usual jokes. Like the accidentally falling into someone's boobs or something like that. :/

Watch Barakamon, it's one of the best heartwarming hilarious Slice of Life anime out there. It's really good.

From last season, I'll be watching Shirobako, Yona of the Dawn & maybe GBF Try.

Encouragement of Climb S2 Ep. 11-12

That was beautiful. The audio and the visuals during the sunrise was just amazing. Feel bad for Aoi but she will get it next time.

Encouragement of Climb S2 Ep. 13

This show is so fucking cute. Holy shit. Probably the cutest episode I've seen in general in a really long time.

Junketsu no Maria- I like the manga. it's one of the better sex comedy i've ever read.

- Your Lies in April

Oh, that's hard to remember.

I really enjoyed Non Non Biyori. But that was from a while ago...

Tamayura is pretty much perfect slice of life.

Barakamon would be worth your time too.

Well I guess now that this thread is up the last season is officially over (that's how it works) so time to give it a nice(?) wrap up. I was far too lazy to do anything substantial this time!

1. Shirobako

Easily the most solid show of the season, it's likeable in nearly every way. Also contains drunk moe so it gets more points

2. Gundam: Reconguista in G

As you most likely know whether you like this or not already, I just want to say that if you're on the winning side we are buddies.

3. Gundam Build Fighters Try

It's still good, but not hitting the highs of the first Season. Don't let any false prophets
Narag
tell you different!

4. Shingeki no Genesis Bahamut

Originally my #1 this season, the latter half and angel/demon parts dragged down what made the series so likable and refreshing in the first place. Still a good show tho

5. Parasyte the Maxim

While the flaws of the series are more apparent to me now the second time going through, it's still a good show with the best right hand man in anime

6. Log Horizon S2

's alright. It's more of Log Horizon but slightly uglier and more off model. I'm just not really feeling this as much as the first season.

7. Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and DRAGON

I hate myself for enjoying this series as much as I do. I hate even more that this show is better then other shows airing.

Shows I don't want to rank because they're not worth it, didn't like it or I dropped them AKA THE CROSS ANGE LINE

Amagi Brilliant Park - It wasn't bad or anything, just so middle of the road I ended up not finishing it. I blame Geass. The girls are cute though!
Hitsugi no Chaika S2 - I didn't think it was bad, but it kind of started falling apart at the end and the ending was pretty limp.
Fate/Stay Night - Not all the budget and time in the world could make this interesting.
Gugure! Kokkuri-san - Really good first episode but unfortunately the main draw of the relationship between Kohina and Kokkuri was clouded by old drunk men and the MC of Persona 3
Psycho-Pass 2 - The color of this show is brown, because it is shitty.
Second half of Akame ga Kill! - I almost forgot this aired this season so I guess that about sums it up. I dropped it after it started deviating from the manga and it sounds like I didn't miss a lot.
Second half of Sword Art Online II - Didn't finish but it was decent enough, some pretty good animation and nothing abhorrently bad (I didn't watch the AIDS arc)
Tribe Cool Crew - Good show, not for me.

Show I should've watched - Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, apparently this is actually pretty good?
Worst show I watched - Terraformars, also the show I dropped the fastest. An achievement, really.
Show I'm glad I didn't watch - Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, I know some people like it but I know I would not be able to stand the melodrama.
Best OP, in order - Garo: Honoo no Kokuin, Psycho-Pass 2, Cross Ange
Best ED, in order - Gundam Reconguista in G, Parasyte, Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis

Best Girl, in order - everyone in Amagi Brilliant Park
Worst Girl, in order - everyone in F/SN

Best old show I watched this season

(Also Twin Peaks)

Patlabor: The Movie Dub

Well I've never seen anything Patlabor before and clearly this was not the spot to start, most of the film was investigation work with characters I feel like I was supposed to already know but didn't. The action at the end was good but the film goes like an hour without any action just lots of investigative work which takes waaaaaay too long to pay off. I also find it strange looking at the poster for this series, and artwork for the series, and a brief series looking over on wikipedia that the main character of the series is Noa when she feels like a minor character for 90% of this film with Asuma really taking the lead role. Noa did get the awesome final action scene but it really felt out of nowhere in the context of the film stand alone as we never see her do anything in a mech until the finale.

Bahamut END

The ending of this wasn't nearly as bad I as I was thinking it would be based on the impressions others left. I fully admit nothing was all the special about it. Which in hindsight is probably the biggest crime it commits. The ending isn't special. You've seen this kind of ending a thousand times if you've watched other shows in the same vein as this one. That said the journey to this point was still worth it even if the ending wasn't the greatest thing.
I also still found the stare down leading to the kiss to be pretty fucking adorable even if I fully expected it.
I still loved the characters all the way throughout and considering that was the show's biggest draw for me anyway, I'd say this was one of the better shows of the year.

I've been enjoying this show so far, and at first the CG hit me like a brick. However, now I have fully embraced it. I wish I watched when it was airing because I got some catching up to do.

CG gets substantially better as it goes along.

The shows that I'm gonna end up watching are......

Tokyo Ghoul √A (I mean the script is gonna be written by Ishida the Mangaka himself and plus he's a really talented writer.)

Death Parade (The premise seems really interesting and it's done by MadHouse, so yeah.)

Assassination Classroom (I'm really in it for the comedy so I hope it turns out well)

and by chance I may watch Rolling Girls if it's any good.

Anyways the rest seem meh especially that Yuri Kuma whatever it is.

Also JoJo I'll save that series for later.

HEROMAN - 12

This show is kind of deviating what I liked about Heroman from its beginning.

I mean, these calm episodes with bits of plot and SOL stuff is okay, don't get me wrong.

But I think this is how the people who watched Bahamut felt when a super-complicated plot took over what was supposedly a light-hearted fun-filled fantasy adventure show. I didn't watch Bahamut so I can't say for sure that's how it went, but you know what I mean.

With the Skrugg out of the way, and the main plot seeming to focus on the government investigating Heroman now, who's secretly helping out with volunteer work at night, things seem to be slowly moving towards a much more serious and complicated side for this show.

I don't know how I feel about that, since I really enjoyed the standard robot punching aliens action this show was about. It was simple, but it was fun! Yeah they took it seriously, but the heart of the super robot action was still there! The fact that there's secret government agents running around in this show now just doesn't really fit that tone.

Well, it's probably too early for me to complain. Maybe they pull off what they're going for pretty good as the series goes on. But man, I miss the robot V.S. aliens action this show started with.

This season I'll be watching

-Aldnoah S2, because I'm addicted to giant robots and overbearing Sawano music.
-Durarara, because the first season was great even if it wasn't as good as Baccano.
-Stardust Crusaders S2. Obviously.
-Kantai Collection, because the source material is so popular I just want to see what's up with this franchise.
-Maou no Testament, because I like big anime titties.
-Lesbian Bear Storm, because I like Morishima Akiko.

And continuing with Cross Ange, Build Fighters Try, G-Reco, and Shirobako.

Now and Then, Here and There episode 1-4 Impressions

oof. Getting flashbacks to my "rwandan genocide" section of my highschool history class

That aside the animation, directing, and the dub (only one on hulu) is really top notch

Hayate No Gotoku S1 1-35
Been bored over this break so I decided to rewatch a whole bunch of this show. I forgot how many ridiculous references they crammed into this show. The original story they put in this show isn't so bad too, with plenty of funny moments. It's cheesy but very enjoyable.

Watching for sure:

  • Shirobako, Parasyte, Log Horizon 2
  • Aldnoah Zero 2 - Hoping it offers plausible explanations if it does the thing, or goes completely crazy.
  • Tokyo Ghoul Root A - Given that it's canon, I need to watch it. Hoping the censorship isn't too bad and the production isn't rushed (I didn't watch the first season, only read the manga).
Will give it a shot:

  • Assassination Classroom - Read the first bit of the manga and didn't mind it. I think it might be a series that is better in animated form.
  • Death Parade - Looked interesting in PV, fan of the art style.
  • Rolling Girls - Probably the most visually stunning thing in this season's PVs.
  • Yoru no Yatterman - Second most visually appealing thing.
Will watch eventually:

  • Jojo: SDC 2 - Can't say I'm a fan of Part 3 so far but will keep watching.

Here's hoping for a good season!

Megazone 23 I

On the one hand, we have an OVA series so 1980's in both the art and the soundtrack that it makes New Wave bands look like they could have popped up in another decade that isn't the 1980's.

On the other hand, we have an OVA Series that was among the first of it's kind to fuse music with the plot, and introduced many character archetypes and story elements that have since become the standard in storytelling.

And I'm liking it so far. It still holds up after nearly 3 decades. And I can't help liking that 80's soundtrack.

Last season I watched:

Lilyhammer S1 & S2 - Pretty good. Liked the humour.
Broadchurch - You'll never guess who the suspect is!
Bones some amount of episodes - Had this in the background. Definitely not worth my full attention.

Presence of Kaede makes this best episode of season. Even if she was barely there.

Even without her it would still be best though. Kitty costumes and Johnny-sensei.

So to anyone who will mostly be watching shows on their backlog this season, what will you be watching? Here is my list:

Megazone 23
El-Hazard: The Wanderers
Infinite Ryvius
Spice and Wolf
Steins;Gate
Soul Eater
Summer Wars and Wolf Children.

Thats about it, decent turnout for an otherwise middling season.

I don't know what to watch as a backlog really, pretty much everything I wanted to watch, I have already watch it. Maybe Ronja!

Not sure, I'm going to continue rewatching G Gundam though. Some shows I'm planning on getting through this year (don't quote me on this) -

Gintama (lol)
Legend of Galactic Heroes (double lol)
Monogatari series
Mobile Suit Gundam Stardust Memories
Victory Gundam
Gundam F91
Eureka 7
Overman King Gainer

HEROMAN - 13

Ugh. I was afraid of this.

While it's not horrible, per say, or even all that bad, this "running from the government" arc just...doesn't feel right for this show.

I mean, I don't hate it, but I just really miss the robot V.S. aliens mindset this show started out with, as I said before.
