The second part is that I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like the main character. "Oh look how just completely average she is, all the while trying to be a good imouto who helps out her sister". Unless she undergoes a drastic character change with the death of her sister, she is not doing anything for me.
Third thing is that this show is very much Japanese. Yes I know that sounds like a very stupid complaint. The major issue driving conflict in the show is over territorial disputes. The problem is that for an audience who isn't familiar with where any of these places are, it's hard to understand what is going on. It sort of reminds me of Hōzuki no Reitetsu and why I couldn't get into that show.
Fourth issue is that this episode felt pretty messy. It's just sort of scattershot and the pacing is fairly quick. This is seemingly the prologue so I'll cut it some slack though.
Yea, I'm not sure I liked this for a few reasons. The first is that this is clearly meant to be the 1st part of a 2 episode opener. So right now it feels like we're still in the prologue point waiting for the sister to die. Which of course has to happen in order to shift the focus to the boring ass fuck younger sister.

The animation though is pretty good. Even outside of the fighting sequences, there were some really good cuts like the eating contest. The animation uses a lot of smears and squash/stretch. It's very dynamic in a similar way to Yozakura from 2013.

I really don't mind the whole warring territories thing especially when it's pretty relaxed and campy like it was here, though I was disappointed the really vibrant art from the intro didn't show up during the actual episode.
Boring MC will be a problem (seriously, not every show needs a boring grounded character to "relate to", give us cool kickass characters plz, or at least give them worthwhile character arc like Simon from TTGL) but hopefully the supporting cast will be quirky enough to pull through.

Actually, that was just based on a single comment on 2chan which yaraon reported on, so it's not exactly a reliable source. It could easily be one person who got upset over fairly loose animation.
There's that one girl in Nozaki-kun.
Although it doesn't actually happen, she just enjoys it.

Why does a bot pick a healer class? Doesn't make sense to me.
I find pretty much everyone in the cast at least mildly enjoyable. Used to dislike Shinra but he got better later.

Well, that mangaka was inspired by Tezuka to make manga in the first place. His style is distinct though, but there are similarities.
Everything Imagawa touches is a masterpiece. I wouldn't describe it as Tezuka-inspired art either when nearly every (maybe all!) characters are borrowed from the various works of Mitsuteru Yokoyama.

Indeed and that is why I have to place the change there since that is what is different and Season 2 has actual directorial ambition and choreography compared to Season 1 where everything was about as dynamic as a Kevin Smith movie.

I think it's amusing when readers or viewers associate themselves with the main protagonist and get mad when some injustice occurs to him/her. Like, honestly, why are you getting mad? You're you, not him/her. If you don't want the protagonist struggling and going through hardships, then watch K-On or something where nothing actually happens. People love drama because stuff happens that doesn't happen in their ordinary lives. It's like NTR. Vanilla is dull because it's normal.

After seeing a number of people getting hype for Dog Days' return I decided to give the first episode a look to see what I've been missing. The male lead seems alright. I'm glad he's not some dumb perverted leech that lacks social skills. Seriously, thank goodness. :lol Will continue watching.

First season no.
Second season is a what if story that takes an alternate route and there hasn't been any abrupt censoring yet either, so it's worth a watch more then the first.

Didn't really dig this episode. To be honest, I don't see how I could ever fully enjoy the subbed version of DRRR given how attached I was to the english dub. It's not a matter of quality (i'm sure the JP VA cast is quite good) it's just everyone incredibly sounds off to me (especially Shizuo; I goddamn loved Crispin Freeman). But aside from that, my biggest legitimate gripe with the show lies in the fact that they're reusing of old songs. The original OST was phenomenal, but a new OST would have definitely given this season it's own identity.
