Winter Anime 2015 |OT| ZA WARUDO is not square!

The passion in which the characters in the show argued about Exodus actually sold me on it and gave an urge to watch it even though it was entirely fictional. ^_^

Welcome to my world. I've been studying shows-within-a-shows for a long time now in order to see their real world influences, how they influence the characters, things like that. Gachiranger, Mirakurun, Grand Braver, Z-Cune Aoi, Blade Braver, etc.

Notice that most of them tend to be robot/Sentai/magical girl shows. To me, that says that the people who write anime and the source material it draws from have a lot of affection for the hero shows of their youth - something that Shirobako has actually touched on.

But seriously, make a real Z-Cune Aoi anime. I will buy all associated merchandising and music for it if they make it happen.

Space Dandy 14

It disappeared the next frame of her! I don't know what's going on!

Will we ever talk the genie back into its bottle???

A Certain Scientific Railgun - 4

Seriously, whenever the main character of Magical Index shows up, I can't not see him as Gray Fullbuster from Fairy Tail.

A much better episode than the last nonetheless though, considering there was more action in it.

Holy shit, I missed a good argument on my flight.

There's some good arguments on both sides. I'll try to respond to some of them after I eat dinner.

Oh btw Forever War is a fucking terrible book. I'm halfway through and I'm already starting to loathe the shit out of the writer.

I don't think I really cared for it until the second half when the time dilation stuff really set in with the culture shock accompanying that.

Man there are like pages and pages of scientic, military, and medical jargon. I understand it's supposed to be hard scifi but holy fuck, some of this should have been held off to some side book.

That and the super thin characters is really starting to grate.

Firehawk has a horrible pathological disease where he can only watch shows that are airing.

Hosanna is trying to get him to watch Shounen Hollywood because once S2 is done, all hope is lost.

Haldeman was playing with time dilation as a way to talk about the experiences of being a veteran of Vietnam... I think in that regard, it works fairly well. I could never finish the sequel though.

(Still better than Interstellar)

(And all the posts I didn't quote)

Oh you guys. :p

Ok the book does get a lot more interesting once he gets back to Earth. The characterization is still a problem but it's not boring me out of my mind right now so that's a start.

Boys Invent Great Hero

This was such 80s cheese, from the Toku heroes, to the toyetic combinable mechas, to the Stan Bush soundtrack. Perfect fit for Trigger's style.

Or as Gridman was known over in the US, Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad. It was an attempt to compete for Saban's market share with Power Rangers, and is available for cheap on DVD.

Oh shit, its an actual thing! I thought they were Not So Subtle references to Ultraman and Getter Robo

Yep. Merely an adaptation of an already-existing toku series. So it occupies the same space as the Ultraman anime, the Kikaider anime, and the Garo anime. And Kamen Rider SD, which is not like the others.

That's one intense argument about Shirobako

I'm on team Shirobako for several reason
- Relatable character and working environment. For me Shirobako potrayal in working environment really remind me of my working place. Heck, there's even a guy who act like Taro (and he is not fired yet)
- The behind the scene of animation industry.
- Reference and joke
- Comedy (that bicycle dude is really annoying and funny)
- The show don't tell approach in several scene. Ema home is barebone and she's eating heated curry, while Miyamori have a nicer home working as production assistant. The freelancer key animator also have small room. If this not telling that the pay as animator sucks, i don't know. It seem veteran got it better though.

Well, as good as it is, no show is perfect, and there's several flaw that need to be highlighted
The flaw
- Same face for most of the girls
- Paper thin characterization
- Too many characters

Overall, i enjoy Shirobako for being good workplace comedy in animation industry. I disagree with the selling waifu thing though.

The Slayers 14-20

Zel's back
and so is Rezo, and now we're trying to get his porno book collection to stop him

Zel is like... trying to be proto Dante or something with how he acts. Kind of smug and shit. I'm guessing Amelia is part of our final party for this season, given the current premise, and how many episodes left there are, and quite frankly, it's nice to at least have someone to compliment Lina.

There's been some wacky episodes
(one of which gave me a sight I knew I didn't want, and disrupted my train of thought heavily).
And even a love interest for Goury, which is making me fear of a potential misunderstanding about feelings because Goury is legitimately stupid.

I'm not sure if we'll get more wackiness outside of the troublesome duo who keeps going NEXT TIME WE SETTLE IT, I SWEAR..... I REALLY MEAN IT!

Ping Pong 9

Damn, Peco went from the biggest bitch and just all around obnoxious into the bro-ist of bros. Other characters have grown, but Peco's redemption has got to be the most predominant.

Animator Expo 09 - Gridman (boys invent giant hero)

Fun short. Effective homage to the original franchise. It's pretty low budget, especially compared to some of the other shorts in the series so far, but considering it was entirely animated by two guys, it used the animation it had really well. The mecha action and effects are very Amemiya, but I love how they even managed to include a melee sequence near the end. This was good nostalgia. :)

I don't remember opening the animegaf thread tonight, but here I am inside it. My mind is probably slipping.

Anyway I've been watching Gifuu Dodou and it is a great show.

I mean it LOOKS horrible but it's still great.
